Technical Glitches Never Count

December 12th, 2011

So, it’s a good thing that I have a habit of opening up my blog prior to making any posts. Typically this just allows me to read over what I wrote the previous day, but in the case of tonight, it allowed to to not read over what I wrote yesterday because it wasn’t there. Never fear, Windows Live Writer still had a record of my post (saying it was published even, so who knows what went on), and it’s been posted/backdated to reflect the fact that I did in fact author it 24 hours ago. Should I be concerned that no one told me I had missed a day though?

If you obviously don’t care enough about this site to let me know that I didn’t post (even though I did!), then you probably don’t care about what I did today or what I’m going to be doing tomorrow. Perhaps you’d just like me to post a video you can watch. A video like the trailer for the new game from the studio behind the Uncharted series. Yeah, you’d like that, wouldn’t you…

These Take Some Work, People

November 19th, 2011

I have to find something to entertain you people with for today, don’t I? Do you just enjoy making my lift difficult, is that it? You know what, don’t answer that. Just let me decide how to entertain you with this post today, and we can just leave it at that.

I guess he winner will have to be a commercial I saw earlier this week. Unlike the previous who knows how many commercials I’ve posted, this one isn’t Microsoft related. That doesn’t make it any less awesome (or in this case funny) which is why I guess it wins the entertainment roulette for occupying the next 30 seconds of your life.

So Excited To Play With Fire

September 28th, 2011

Ladies and gentlemen, my tablet of choice has arrived:

For $200, that’s a tablet that is primarily focused on my main desire for one: media consumption. Doesn’t hurt that it plays nice with Amazon’s ecosystem that I’m already well established in, and there’s even a legitimate app store to go along with it. It also just so happens that it comes out right in time for my Thanksgiving trip, and can also get used on my Christmas, CES, and PAX East trips before I’d even dream about trading it in for a Windows 8 slate. Yep, I definitely believe that I waited for the right device.

I thought it was amazing enough last year when the Rangers made it to the playoffs, but for it to happen again goes even beyond the bounds of amazing. Not in the sense that I thought it was impossible for them to do, but after going through an entire decade of them…let’s just say not being the best baseball team, having all this success come out of “left field” (pun intended) is just super exciting. I have a shirt from last year that says AL Champions; let’s see what I get to add to the collection this time around.

Day Five of My Favorite Seattle Weekend

August 28th, 2011

PAX may be coming to a close today, so it seems only fitting to look to the future. The last four trailers have all been about games that have already come out. For this trailer, I give you what’s going to have to battle Uncharted 3 for my most anticipated game of the next 12 months: Bioshock Infinite.

Irrational has released a lot of gameplay footage since this trailer to talk more about the story and what the game is actually going to be like, but I was hooked from just having seen this one. I may not have played through all (or even most) of Bioshock 2 yet, but this isn’t a true sequel, so I’ve been fine with reading all of the information. All I need now is a solid release date, and the anticipation can be cranked up to its highest possible setting.

Day Four of My Favorite Seattle Weekend

August 27th, 2011

Ok, Blizzard post time again. If there was one game in the past 12 (technically 13) months that I was looking forward to more than any other, it would have been Starcraft 2. In true Blizzard fashion, the game took forever and a half to come out, but it was so, so worth it in the end.

Unlike their WoW trailers, this one actually isn’t the intro for the game. It’s a compilation of a bunch of the cutscenes that happen throughout the game, edited together just like you’d make a movie. In fact, from watching these two trailers, you may wonder why Blizzard actually hasn’t gotten around to making a movie yet. As far as I’m concerned, it’s just a matter of time…

Day Three of My Favorite Seattle Weekend

August 26th, 2011

Even though I have another Blizzard trailer to show, I’ll space those out a tiny bit. For now, how about one of the most well publicized Xbox 360 games and its corresponding trailer that got national coverage? Of course, I’m talking about Halo 3 and the TV spot that aired during a Monday Night Football game.

Even though I’ve never been a huge Halo franchise fan (and you could even argue that it’s the one series I actually buy more for the multiplayer component because of peer pressure), this trailer was admittedly quite cool. It was also one of the first video game trailers to be featured so prominently on TV, and now you have premieres like the Modern Warfare 3 trailer airing during the NBA Finals (another awesome trailer, but I’ve included that one in a previous post, so I won’t duplicate it in this series).

Day Two of My Favorite Seattle Weekend

August 25th, 2011

For WoW, Blizzard likes to use their actual cinematic intros instead of creating a separate trailer. This has two effects: the intro isn’t quite as amazing when you start up the game for the first time, but the production values are understandably much higher than other trailers are. Basically, I’m not going to complain, especially after you watch a couple and take in their awesomeness.

Your video for today is said trailer/intro for the second WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. This is the expansion that came out back in 2008 (not the newest one, which had a cool but slightly less awesome trailer) and if I recall correctly, was during one of my most impressive WoW addiction spells. Fortunately rewatching it doesn’t make me want to reactivate this second, but who knows what small seed it could have planted that may grow into something in a few weeks time…

Day One of My Favorite Seattle Weekend

August 24th, 2011

Since this weekend is all about games, I’ve decided that for the post content, I’m going to include one of my favorite either game trailers or intro cinematics. If it isn’t clear by the end of the weekend why I own as many games as I do, perhaps by the end of the weekend you’ll understand a little bit more. Since these trailers also all focus pretty much on the “campaign” experience, it should also show why I don’t really factor in the multiplayer component (much) when making my game purchasing decision.

First up is Borderlands, the game Andrew and I have been playing quite a lot of in recent memory. The sequel was just announced, and while as awesome of a trailer has yet to be made for it, I have no doubt that one will come out eventually before the game’s release. However, Andrew and I still have the DLCs to get through, so I’m not done with this game quite yet.

Couldn’t Have Been Clearer

July 5th, 2011

After all that talking about my plans for yesterday, and not even a single mention of it in the post? If you weren’t able to tell that it was a scheduled one, then you’re a very, very poor stalker. I was absolutely right in doing that, however, since I didn’t even get home until almost 1:00. Good thing I was getting 10 hours of sleep all throughout the rest of the long weekend because I definitely didn’t get my desired amount last night.

Even though the drive the long way wasn’t short, it wasn’t unbearably long either, and the outcome made it totally worth it anyway. We basically had our own hour long private fireworks show that cost thousands of dollars that we all had front row seats to, a small portion of which can be seen in the video below. On top of that, the weather was just about perfect, and for once I was happy to not have the Dallas summer heat present. However, my outside plans are wrapped up for the time being, so I can totally go back to complaining about how un-summer like the weather here is.

Talk About Movies Galore

June 30th, 2011

We got an email today that there’s another morale event coming up next month, extremely similar to the Green Hornet one we had back in January. This time there’s about seven movies for us to choose from rather than just the one, but the headlining one (and one I’ll probably go see) is Captain America. I could wait a week and see Harry Potter, but if I’m gonna see both of these movies regardless, no sense in pointlessly delaying one of them.

One thing I forgot to mention about my Transformers outing was that the following trailer was shown before it. While I think I my opinion about the movie would have been the same anyway, this definitely set a good mood to start it off with. I’ll just let you watch the trailer and be as pleased as I was when I figured out what movie it was for.
