With the parade on this past Saturday, I think I might be done with football related events now (with the exception of the banquet in January that we’ve already established I’m most likely not going to). I don’t get a break from sports for long though with baseball out at UTD starting soon after I go back to school. Probably the only year I’ll do this, but I could always end up changing my mind.
For my game class next semester, one of the assigned books was Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. I decided to get a jump on it by starting it over the break, but enjoyed it so much that I finished it last night and ordered the parallel story, Ender’s Shadow, off of Amazon earlier today. Definitely one of my favorite books that I’ve ever read, and once the movie ends up getting made, I’ll absolutely be going to see it.
In other minor news, I beat Kirby’s Canvas Curse earlier today, and, oh yeah, it’s my birthday tomorrow :).

So yesterday after we had the picture taken, the ring people were there to size us for our state rings. As expected, I wasn’t on the pre-printed list, but they didn’t seem to have any problems about just writing my name in. No idea what the timeframe will be for getting them, but when they do arrive it’s going to be expensive. Apparently silver is $299 (that’s what I got) and gold is $599. Hey, no one ever said winning a state championship would be cheap.

I believe the correct term for today was “complete domination”. If you don’t agree, then please let me know what a 59-0 victory in the state finals is while holding your opponent to only 21 (yes, that’s right) total yards. Some additional facts about today:
- Our first shutout of the season
- Biggest blowout ever in a UIL 11-man state final game
- 4th game of the season we’ve scored 59 points in (never been able to break the magical 60 though…)
- Held Marshall to 21 total yards and only 2 first downs
- First ever HP team to have an undefeated, untied season (and not to mention first to win 15 games)
Band of Brothers, you deserve it.
Highland Park Scots: Class 4A Division I State Champions!!!
P.S. And to answer that question from a few weeks ago, yes, I will be getting a ring :)

Just 1 day away…. Anyway, I found out this morning that people who wish to watch or listen to our game will have no less than 5 ways to do so, and because everyone comes to my blog for this sort of info (shut up, they do!!), I figured it was the right thing to do to post it here:
Broadcast Television: KDFI 27 (Charter Cable channel 19, coverage starts at 3:00)
Radio: ESPN 103.3 FM (pre-game coverage begins at 2:00)
Internet TV Stream: http://www.hpisd.org (HP STATE FOOTBALL GAME link at the top, coverage will match KDFI 27)
Internet Radio Streams: http://www.sportsjuice.com (High bandwidth, ESPN 103.3 coverage) or http://www.hpisd.org (Low bandwidth, KDFI 27 coverage)
With all those options, no one has any reason not to watch or hear the game in some form. That’s right, no one.

Except for, oh yeah, “We’re going to State!!!”. For the first time in 48 years, HP has finally made it to the State finals, and along with that, this is our first team to ever win 14 games in a season. This accomplishment didn’t come easy though.
Starting with the final play of the 3rd quarter when Stephenville scored a touchdown to make it 34-31, this game became the ultimate nail-biter. With just over 8 minutes they scored once again to give them the lead (the first time this year we’ve been trailing in the 4th) 34-38. We then got down to around the 30 or so, and one of our players fumbled the ball almost directly into one of their defenders with only about 4 minutes remaining. The first play or two they stuck with the safe run, but they then tried a short pass right up the middle which we amazingly intercepted on a diving catch. That then set up our touchdown with only 37.7 seconds left, and being unable to get down the field to attempt a field goal, we won 41-38.
We won’t be sure of the time or place until sometime this next week, but my “sources” inform me that it will almost definitely be on Saturday and that we’ll likely have to travel (i.e. no Texas Stadium). Whether that equates to a Friday departure and spending the night somewhere or just leaving and returning on Saturday, I’m not sure yet. But I do know one thing for sure: next weekend is going to be amazing. :)

…to bring you this important announcement: there is way more stuff in my room than should physically be able to fit in there. I go through phases of wanting to clean up and reorganize my room (although this usually happens in the summer, and this time it’s actually being forced on me by my mom), but anyone who comes into my room after about the next week or so will very likely have a hard time recognizing it. Nothing has really been moved around, but my guides are in nice magazine holders now, there aren’t multiple rings of stuff going around the outside of my room, and the amount of stuff shoved onto shelves and put under other things has been greatly reduced. The reason this is being done is because my mom is having people she works with over for a happy hour in the middle of next week, and according to her, she’s “embarrased to have people come over because of my room.” The study should probably be my following project, but we’ll see if I stay in the cleaning mood or not.
Also, according to the newspaper, we play our game this week on Saturday (yes!) in Denton (double yes!) at 2:00 (/shrug, works for me). Probably end up like Friday was and be a whole day devoted to football, but with the prospect of going to State if we win, I think I can deal with it.

We’re only one win away from HP’s first ever 14-win season. That’s right, our record is now 13-0 after a well played 45-28 victory over Ennis. Next week is going to be against Stephenville or Plainview in who knows where (but hopefully on Saturday so that my Calculus exam on Friday night at 7:00 doesn’t conflict).
I think that I’ve pretty much decided on my new phone barring a $600+ price tag on it once it gets released. It’s the Nokia N80 that Cingular appears to be picking up (pics online are of the silver version, but IMO the black looks sooooo much cooler). I won’t rule out the possibility of me picking it up unlocked/unbranded, but considering that the price for that will be a few hundred over the unsubsidized cost, I’d have to want it really bad (or this phone going to have to be cheaper than I’m expecting). I’m due for my upgrade from Cingular though, so it’s just a matter of waiting until it hits their stores. What can I say, kids from HP like expensive toys. :)

59-17. Didn’t think so.
Next week is Friday at 1:00 (still at Texas Stadium) against Ennis (apparently whoever told me that they changed classes was misinformed) after their win today against Waco Midway. Not sure exactly what this round is called (possibly Regional Finals), but it’s Round 3 out of (I think) 5, so winning would only put us two games away from State if my math is correct and State really is December 10th.
Saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire today, and I must say that I was quite impressed. I thought there was too much in the movie that felt like it was just there because it was in the book and didn’t bother to tie into the rest of the movie along with the obligatory deletions/tweaks from the book, but not enough to bother me as much as Prisoner of Azkaban did. Guess that’s why I’m not a movie director since I’d want to make a 4 hour epic that covers every single point the book does.

No, there’s no direct connection of the title of this post to the content; I just liked how it sounded. :)
In the past 2 days, I’ve seen a total of three movies: Zathura, Revenge of the Sith, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I’ve done a review for the second, but I’ll quickly cover the other two here.
Zathura is, at its core, Jumanji in space. That’s not a bad thing though because it’s entertaining throughout, and that’s all a decent movie really needs to accomplish. Score: 7/10
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actually came out this summer, but the DVD came out this past week. I personally loved it, but since it is a Tim Burton movie after all, this one can’t really be judged for the masses. Score: 8.5/10
This upcoming week is my last full week of classes for the semester. Next week is only three days because of Thanksgiving (it should be two, but UTD is very anti-holiday it seems), and then the following Tuesday exams start and go through December 5th. I registered for my spring classes this past week, but since I’m not sure what the CLEP tests I’m taking next month will give me credit for, it may or may not be my final schedule.
Even though I don’t plan on getting an Xbox 360 for about another 6 months, I went ahead and added my Gamer Card over to the sidebar just to be proactive. Even though I rarely ever play anything on Live, I’ll keep the Gold account anyway for the times when I do feel like playing something.

A year ago I never would have thought I’d be working another HP Football playoff game after our season ended in the first round, but last night was my “second chance” at a semi-decent playoff run since I wasn’t a trainer our junior year. Anyway, you’d think after looking at our season this year that the game list night would have been a cakewalk for us just as every other game had turned out being.
Not quite.
Once we were down 10-0 at the end of the first quarter, that’s when I started to get a whole bunch of memories from last year. We managed to fight back a little, but at the half we were still down 17-14. This couldn’t be good. I don’t think we had been trailing in any game this year at the half (except possibly the Denton Ryan one). Unlike our other games, this game was never really “sealed” either by either team. We did, however, manage a 38-31 win over the team we lost to last year. This means that we play this upcoming week on Thursday at 7:30 vs. McKinney North @ Texas Stadium. Maybe second chances really do exist…
