If I had a defense (which I don’t), it would be that Saturday was a non-standard post to begin with, so why should I be bothered to remember what day it was? Fine, maybe five years is somewhat of an interesting milestone, but do you feel like any great thing was missed out on? It wasn’t like I was planning to throw a party to celebrate and forgot; it was a post, albeit one that I tend to rely on for remembering exactly what the date is from year to year. Also, just because I forgot to mention it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to blog about it, does it still happen? Yes, because that’s how physics works.
I’m going to get started on Paper Mario, but I’m going to need a lot more time invested than just an hour a day if I’m going to pull off being it by a week from now. Having plans to help a friend move this weekend also doesn’t help matters that much, but I’m actually fine if I don’t beat it within a week. Don’t get my wrong, I’d love for that to be the case, but I understand taking on what amounts to an RPG and could be a YotGotYGP style game (you know, if it had won awards) and saying I’m going to beat it in a week is a little aggressive. If it was just that easy, why have my other games taken me so much longer?

Granted, I put in a decent amount of time, but I have RE4 completed to say for it. What I anticipated being close to an 8 hour game going in ended up being 16 (fine, 15:56, but I think I can round that off), and I now have over a week to work on my next game. I’m fully aware that not even a week ago I said that was likely to be Bioshock 2, but since I’m already in the Wii/Gamecube mode and the Wii U won’t have Gamecube support, now is probably the best situated I’ll ever be to tackle my Gamecube backlog. I think the winner of that very large pile is Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. I absolutely loved Super Paper Mario when I played it, and I intended on getting around to it back then, but you know me and game plans. Besides, the game I have on tap for next month should also be a quick one (fingers crossed), so Bioshock 2 can be done then and still have a nice time gap present.
Tomorrow ends up being my empty day this week, but it’s not one that I can choose to work from my couch all day long. In fact, just glancing ahead and due to schedule changes, my next potential day to work from home is at least a couple weeks out. It’s going to be bad enough having two straight weeks of five days in the office, but three (or more)? This isn’t a record that I want to try and set for this year anytime soon…

I said that today was going to be a day that I mde progress in RE4. When Will not actually but still kinda woke me up this morning to make plans, I knew that these plans could go on for a while. Therefore, I spent an hour getting through two sections of RE4 prior to lunch, and ever since then I’ve been finding myself all over Seattle. First it was in Green Lake, then Wallingford, then spending the very pleasant afternoon at Gas Works, and now finally back at Will’s for dinner and watching Hugo in 3D. See, I’m getting pretty good at predicting my life and making the appropriate modifications so that everyone ends up being happy.
I’m going to refrain from making any promises about tomorrow because as evidenced by today, my life could go in any number of directions. I expect that I’ll be playing RE4, but there’s no guarantee about when or how much. The one thing I can guarantee is that I’m still easily on track to beat it by the end of the month so I see no difficulty in having everything go as planned for the project overall.

Had the plans that seemed set in stone a month ago come to fruition, I’d be listening to…well actually nothing right now, but it would be The Black Keys in about 45 minutes. I’ve included the video that would have been a part of tonight’s scheduled posts just so you can get at least a little feeling for what the series would have been like. See, not only did I have an idea, but it was actually content appropriate.
Instead, I’ll head into Seattle tonight and go to the mashup party that is such a hit with Enforcers which happens to be tonight as well. I figure that I might as well get at least a little bit of music in my life, and then yes, tomorrow I promise will be an RE4 playing day. However, I reserve the right to suspend that promise if Will wants me to play Borderlands or really if anything more interesting comes up. Free week, people. Free week.

Sooo…I might be spending tonight playing through Borderlands with Will and Jess rather than doing anything actually productive towards my own personal goals? Hey, I am playing through it on the 360 for the first time (so yes, that means I now own it on two platforms), so at least there are achievements to be had. Also, since I have no idea how long we’ll be playing, it’s safer to make this post now. I have been known to get into some very long Borderlands play sessions.
BSG did get officially finished last night, and for everyone saying that I should quit at various points in the third and final seasons, I was actually fairly content with the way it ended. Yeah, there were things that weren’t wrapped up or explained, but on some level I’m fine with that since it was at least satisfying overall. Then again, I watched Lost, and I’m not sure after that if anyone is allowed to complain of things not being explained by the time the finale comes around.

The Child’s Play golf tournament was officially announced today, so in the not too distant future I’m going to need to plan my trip to LA for that. It’s interesting because it just so happens to fall on a weekend that the Dodgers are playing a series against the Mariners up here, so I either make it a super quick trip and try to see Kershaw pitch, or I take advantage of the fixed costs and just stay down in LA a more normal length of time and maybe add on a Dodgers game to the end of it when they’re back down there. If I knew for certain which game/day he’d be pitching it would help make my decision easier, but if it’s just going to be a probability game (and under 50% in both cases), I’m not sure I should let that be my deciding factor.
Since I’m not spending the night in San Francisco right now, I figured that the first day of “not Coachella” could be spent finally wrapping up BSG. I watched the first part of the finale before Survivor tonight, and I’m about to watch the second and third parts right now before going to sleep. I figure at that point I’ll just be free to move on with my TV life and finally be able to catch up on other shows. Either that or not feel guilty about spending so much time playing games and neglecting all the shows I have to watch; not sure which one of those two possibilities will win at this point.

I actually had a very fitting and appropriate set of content for scheduled posts ready to write up tonight, but alas, it just wasn’t meant to be. The trip plans were killed last minute due to a multitude of different reasons, so I’ll have to live with Boston and Dallas as my two vacations for the month of April. I’m still good through June, and July/August already have plans in the wings, so my travel streak isn’t being derailed at all by this adjustment.
With my schedule now open, I’d say that I shouldn’t have much of a problem at all with beating RE4 by the end of the week, and at that point I can choose my next secondary game to work on. Right now I’d put my money on that being Bioshock 2 since I’d have enough time (presumably) to completely finish it, and I’d also be done with it soon enough that if I happened to want to play Infinite right around when it launches, I won’t have a ME2/ME3 type scheduling situation on my hands to coordinate. I feel really bad for The Old Republic in all this as I truly do want to play it, but a game with a monthly subscription model just isn’t going to work for me in 2012.

Not only did I make it through the end of the third chapter in RE4 tonight, but I spent nearly two hours just getting through the first section of the fourth. It wasn’t even two hours just because I kept getting killed (although that happened more than I’d like to admit); the pacing of RE4 could definitely use some work considering that I finished the preceding two sections in just around half that time. Now if I don’t get around to playing it any tomorrow I have no reason to feel guilty, and I’m ahead of where I was aiming to be come the 25th. There’s no negative in this situation as far as I can tell.
For my first day back at work, today went surprisingly quickly. Of course, matters were probably helped by me actually having quite a bit to do rather than after other vacations (or recruiting trips) where I’ll still actually be “working” and therefore just come back to a typical Monday. Is the right answer here to have one day of work for every week and a half of vacation? Hmmm, I might be onto something here…

I’m completely fine with the weather going back to 50s and rainy starting tomorrow. Today was so similar to yesterday that it was a great end to my weekend (and really week and a half of not having work). Tomorrow will be interesting since there’s not going to be that much of a reason for me to ramp back up on everyone only to be gone again 48 hours later, so I expect this odd holding pattern where I’m involved with stuff, but I still remain sort of in the background.
Between tomorrow and Tuesday I should hopefully be able to wrap up the third chapter of Resident Evil 4, leaving only the last two chapters to go in the final week of the month once I return. I probably could have done my research better and actually chosen a shorter game, but then again, I guess GotY games tend to do fall on the longer side of average just as a part of their nature. Still, can you imagine me trying to get through Oblivion this month? There was some common sense that prevailed in my choices, even if it might not have been 100% accurate.

I give Seattle a hard time for its weather…a very hard time in fact. However, with enough days like today, I can at least justify sticking around for more than just the paycheck. I can also justify having an apartment with a balcony because let me just say that a chair + sitting out there made for a very relaxing hour or so this afternoon. Not that I need more relaxing, but I’m not going to reject it or anything crazy like that.
I’m caught up on all my recorded TV now (at least of the shows that I’m up to date on), so the remainder of my free time can go towards RE4. Well, I may also spend a couple hours finally wrapping up BSG, but I say that a lot and it has still yet to happen. I could also wrap it up while I’m on my trip, but I don’t really see myself having all that much time for other forms of media while I’m gone to a music festival. If I do, then I’m pretty sure that I’m doing something wrong.
