Until…probably Ocarina of Time comes out for the 3DS, I’ll be spending most of my time just on my normal one. Until then, I can use this excuse for why I’m not making use of my $250 toy more. Of course it will all change at that point, but no one ever said I couldn’t flip-flop on my 3D position.
I am, however, taking my 3DS to the Enforcer party tonight because of the friend codes and the ease of swapping them when in close proximity with other people. Not necessarily expecting this to happen, but I want to be prepared just in case. After all, if there’s any group of people I know where this would be likely to happen, this would be far and away the most likely one.

Tomorrow you’ll get an honest to goodness live post out of me. Shocking, isn’t it? In fact, it won’t just be my trip summary post, but it will also cover our Sounders game morale event. You’ll get to hear about if I was able to fly back at 6:00 in the morning to have a much more comfortable time span in between landing and the start of the game as well as how much pain my body is in from having done three 12 hour days in a row at PAX. You won’t want to miss tomorrow, it’s bound to be good.
Since this entire trip has been about having games on the mind, it only seems fitting to close this round of posts with a comic that seems to apply to a bunch of games. When you think about, more than a few heroes begin their quests with the odds stacked heavily against then. So heavily, in fact, that you have to wonder why they even started their quest at all. Sure, if they didn’t, the game would be pretty boring (and short), but you can only imagine this sort of conversation happening behind the scenes.

PAX East is over; unlike back in the fall, you must wait two more posts instead of just one for a summary of what actually happened. Don’t like it? Well, as we’ve established, I’m going to be here for another day, and while a mobile post would be 100% achievable, it couldn’t come close to comparing with the previous summary post if I was trying to do everything from my phone. So, you wait, and it’s as simple as that.
I had a comic for today’s post that I liked (don’t get me wrong, I still do like it), but there will be a better opportunity in the near future for me to use it in a more appropriate context. Just wait, you’ll see it in a few weeks (if I remember to post it) and it’ll all make sense then. For now though, this one will have to do.

My trip (and PAX East) is now more than half over, but that doesn’t means that more than half of the fun is gone. The whole reason I’m staying until Tuesday is because of the afterparty Monday evening, and if that’s anything at all like it was back in September, it was the right choice to make. Also, a lot of unofficial parties happen Sunday night, so really you can look at it as almost all of my (fun) work is done, but the celebrations haven’t even yet begun.
For today we step away from Penny Arcade for a moment and revisit the original comic of The Daily Goob. If you miss Penny Arcade, don’t worry, we’ll get back to it tomorrow. However, if you don’t get the reference of this one, I’m not sure we’re allowed to be friends anymore so don’t even bother coming back.

If everything goes according to plan, today is setup day. Last year (since I looked and found that I never talked about my experience on Thursday) I was a shirt roller in the Expo Hall for Bethesda, and then I was over working registration by directing people to the proper line to get in. All of that was just after my normal day at work, so take that 4-5 hours and now expand it to a full day.
If I manage to just do any wandering around Boston, it will either have happened yesterday, today, or will happen on Monday. One task my manager at work gave me was to report back with the animal on the weathervane on the top of Faneuil Hall (without cheating by looking it up on the internet). One would think it to be a rooster but that’s likely too obvious, so considering it’s just about one stop farther on the subway than my usual stop would be to get places, it’s not that inconvenient for me to go do my assignment.

The entire week won’t be PAX/Penny Arcade related, but you have to admit that it makes sense for the majority of it to be. I’ll throw in some XKCD for good measure (also because there have been a couple good ones recently), but the majority will honor the reason I’m on vacation for a week. After all, if it wasn’t for this then the alternative was SXSW which would have been similar costs + the actual admission to the event, so I’m really saving money by going to Boston when you think about it.
As was established previously, since all of these are scheduled posts and not being made from Boston, there won’t be a timestamp or a Boston category applied. I may need to go back and create an “Events” category or something, but that’s a post-trip project if it happens. Currently, I’m content with the solution I settled on.

On this Valentine’s Day, I had no flowers nor chocolate to give (although I got some chocolate at lunch from a MS person dressed up as Cupid), no dinner to go to (Jimmy John’s was excellent though), and no responsibilities once I got home (I did however make a lot of progress in the Halo 3 campaign). No, instead I spent my time at my resident public school of higher education, learning about the program I intend to start in the fall to give me more knowledge. I easily meet or clear every bar for their admission requirements except for one (which I’m effectively at the minimum for), so I put my chances of getting in fairly high unless quite a few people are able to out do me.
I almost had to make this post from my phone since my internet connection only came back within the last 10-15 minutes (and even died again shortly since then). In that event, I was going to be talking about how I had a great post and title all thought up (a rarity these days), including a comic. What? Oh right…
There’s a reason I just did (and will be doing again) the “CS” part of Computer Science and Engineering. Mainly because whenever I look at circuit diagrams, my brain processes it as something like this:

See that Twitter box over to the right? (Facebook users, see my news feed?) I’ll be tweeting updates from CES, or at least that’s my plan, and Twitter/Facebook is the way for you to stay up to date on everything I find awesome. The super cool stuff gets the daily blog posts, but Twitter will be my photo and update stream throughout the day. It’ll also likely serve as my shopping list throughout the year, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if you see a few of these gadgets make return appearances here later in 2011.
If you’re lucky, I might just tweet about something as awesome as this:

So yeah, that whole “I’m going to finish Half-Minute Hero” plan I was talking about yesterday? Gone. Out the window. Finito. I decided that I wanted to play me some Pokemon FireRed, and that’s exactly what I did today. Of course, I started the day off with some Kingdom Hearts and completed the next chunk of the story in it (which took about another hour, I’m starting to believe that 18-20 hour number I seem to remember), but I then quickly moved onto getting my handheld action on.
Playtime wise I’m 4:30 into the game, but due to an unfortunate power slider incident and the lack of autosave, I really probably put 6-7 hours into it today. I’ll be the first to admit that a significant portion of the time was spent doing little other than “grinding”, but I guess when you really want to play the game, you overlook things like that. Also, to top it off, it’s as if the Nintendo gods saw my newly reforming addiction and decided that in January, there were going to be some free Pokemon giveaway events at Gamestop for some of the rarer ones. I believe that they teamed up with the Gamestop gods when planning this considering the giveaways require the DS games (which I passed on buying but were planning on getting as a result of my rediscovered interest), and I also happen to have $50 in Gamestop giftcards right next to my computer at the moment. Perhaps a field trip to one of the downtown Gamestops is in need tomorrow over lunch? Man, these holiday working days really can be hard…

Dallas, 11:10 PM: One of my gifts to my dad this year was a copy of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 for 360, thinking that as long as they had one (and it really wasn’t seeing that much use as a streamer despite my explicit instructions), it might as well get put to good use. Some Xbox instructing and a little gamertag reshuffling later, he should be good to go. I can already see coming back in the summer and my parents having amassed an even greater game collection than I have. Hey, you never know who the gaming addiction bug can jump on.
Speaking of gaming, tomorrow I can finally get back to working on Fable (assuming my dad isn’t hogging the 360, this could actually turn out to be a negative for when I come home) since all of my family duties will be complete. I should be able to wrap up my list of desired restaurants by the time I leave on Tuesday which is a very good thing since I won’t get them again until summer (under my current flight plans). Chili’s, Genghis, and Burger House, seriously; get some Seattle (non-airport) locations soon, I beg of you.
In honor of today, I present you with yet another comic, this one actually from a few weeks ago (go figure on the timing):
