What Once Was Lost
One of the arguably good things about moving is that it forces you to throw stuff away and clean up. One of the definite good things about cleaning up is that you find so many things that had been “lost” for various amounts of time. For example, I now have a letter opener once again after needing to use a pocket knife as a replacement for a few months. I’m sure things I didn’t even know were lost will continue to turn up as well, making the process of packing all the more rewarding.
One game I’ve started to play while packing is attempting to reuse my old moving boxes for the same contents that they’re already labeled for. My DVDs and games were pretty easy since they were never fully unpacked (although there is some overflow due to new acquisitions that needs to be dealt with), but for things like “bedroom” and “bathroom”, it’s quite interesting to see if I can fit all the appropriate items back in. I’m sure as I get closer to the end there will be quite a few boxes that need to be relabeled, but if I can just get through most of the packing with my current strategy, I’ll be quite proud of myself.
