Both Can Be Useful for Now

December 3rd, 2010 @ 11:59 PM

Coming back to the topic of the WP7 app landscape, I wanted to be able to play a Pandora station through the TV setup downstairs, but neither Xbox nor PS3 have any sort of Pandora integration at this point in time. So, since I have to keep it around for authenticator duties anyway, I put my iPhone back to work as an iPod Touch by downloading the Pandora app for it and using it as the source. Even if WP7 did have a Pandora app, this leaves my actual phone free to do phone or game playing duties and makes use of a device that would otherwise be sitting dormant.

So as to not look like I’m showering too much praise on my iPhone, I did set something up on my Focus today that the iPhone could only dream of doing. The weather app icon on the iPhone always shows an image of 73 and sunny on the actual icon, and you have to go into the app in order to get any other information. Well, WP7 actually has start screen buttons that can show useful information, so I set up my weather app to go ahead and give me the weather information right there at a glance. Really, Apple, three plus years since the initial release and you still feel like you have a decent user experience in this area?
