Finally Thinking Up Some Stats

April 10th, 2010 @ 11:53 PM

May 15th (anniversary day) will actually have something of interest to report now, as I’ve been thinking up some more stats that I can include in my yearly summary. Of course, I need to make sure that there’s an easy way for me to generate said stats without looking at each post from the previous year individually. Given that in a worst case scenario I can bust out my SQL skills and do some direct database querying, I’m not too worried about that. I just need to make sure I know how to collect them more than 20 minutes before my deadline.

I spent the afternoon playing around with the “Play To” feature of Windows 7 (in conjunction with my 360), and while it’s use is fairly limited at this point in time in my case, I could see huge potential here in the future. Take this scenario: you have a slate where all your media on your network is visible from, you scan through a rich interface finding the right TV episode or movie to watch, and then instead of watching it on the device’s screen, you simply tell it to play on your TV (whether that be through a box like a 360 or simply a networked TV itself). Hear that, Apple? Let me do that and you might just get me on board with the iPad. Otherwise, I’ll wait for the PC ecosystem to build that for me.
