I may be done with two of my projects now, there isn’t any baseball for the next week and a half, and the first of my remaining two projects may not be due until a week from Saturday, but my next week is anything but “free”. Both my remaining projects are arguably my two biggest ones to work on, so I’ll most likely be focusing part of my time every day on them. Then there’s the baseball banquet still happening on Monday night, my HP class project day class on Thursday, and most likely an end of year meeting concerning the game event on Wednesday or so. School definitely doesn’t end early for me at all this year.
I haven’t decided if I want to go see a movie on Saturday or not, but there are definitely a bunch of options if I do. As busy as my next week might be, that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t set aside some time to enjoy myself. On the contrary, I think that it demands the setting aside of time for nothing but mindless entertainment. Fortunately, that’s one of my favorite kinds.

Due to the big (possibly somewhat overblown) concern over “swine flu” (why they didn’t just call it “pig flu” is beyond me, I guess people with medical degrees just wanted to sound smart), UIL has suspended all competitions until May 11th. This means that there won;t be a game this Friday, nor will there be a first round playoff game next week. As of right now the banquet is still on for Monday, but if HP shuts down for a week or so like Fort Worth did today, who knows when that will get rescheduled for. TEA and College Board have to be loving this since it comes right in the middle of the end of year tests, but like at UTD has been pretty much unaffected by the whole thing.
I’m still on track to finish my HP class project tonight, study for my DB test tomorrow morning, and then start working on my final two project beginning tomorrow afternoon. With nothing happening on Friday now, I can use that time even to work on my projects. Actually, that’ll probably end up being WoW time, but until then I can at least make it sound like I’ll be productive then by saying I’ll do work on my projects.

For the first time in a while I haven’t had a baseball game on a Tuesday night, but if there was going to be a week where there wasn’t one, this was a very good week. I finished up my DB project after my classes, and now I’ve rotated in my next projects which aren’t due until the 9th at the earliest. Everything is still fine schedule wise, and I’m even managing to get sleep each night.
Tomorrow isn’t a hard day for me in any respect, so I’ll just go work with Mr. McDonald, go to my class, and then come home and continue working on my projects. I’ll also need to start studying for my DB test which is on Thursday, but fortunately after that, I’m completely done with that class. Since it’s been my least favorite all semester, it’s quite satisfying to have it be the first one out of the way.

Between reading Wicked, finishing my DB project, and working on my HP project, I’ve actually been able to make decent progress on all of them with even some down time. Right now is an occurence of said time when I’m going to watch the Chuck season (but hopefully not series) finale from earlier tonight that I missed while my mom and I were eating dinner at Olive Garden with my grandparents. Tomorrow marks the beginning of the end of it all, so as long as I can keep my time management stuff going well, I should be good for getting my work done over the next couple of weeks.
If there’s been one hiccup in my juggling act over the past 24 hours or so, it would come from the fact that I sent my DB class teacher a question about our project last night and have still yet to hear anything back from him. Seeing as how it’s due in less than 24 hours now, you’d think he’d be slightly more responsive to his emails. For now it’s just been something that I’ve worked around since it’s basically a question as to what extent we need to go with a certain part of the project. My hope would be that less is more, but I won’t actually know until he bothers to give me an answer.

I have made nice progress with my DB project today, but it’s not exactly what anyone would call the nicest looking or organized code in the world. Fortunately we were explicitly told that this was not one of the criteria we were being graded on, so my viewpoint is that as long as it works, it’s good code in this case. This project actually has way deeper issues than the quality of our code, so I’ll just be very happy once it’s done.
With the exception of Friday night, this week is purely about school. Two projects due and a test will be consuming the vast majority of my time, but it also means that after each thing, I have less and less to worry about. My last day of classes is a week from Monday, and then during the exam week I have a non-cumulative test, a class to attend that makes up half of our project grade (we get an A for being there), and then the finale is turning in the P2P project at the very end. If this was a race, the home stretch is definitely all that lies between me and the finish line now.

In a game that meant absolutely nothing to anyone, we’re able to recover from being down 3-4 to win 8-4. It would be much more beneficial if this were to take place against opponents that actually had an effect on our playoff standing, but I guess that doesn’t matter either anymore since we’re locked into playing McKinney. Almost a week off until the next game, and in between now and then I have two of my “final” projects due.
I intended on doing a lot of work on my DB project today, but that didn’t really happen. I at least got to the point where I opened up NetBeans and started typing some code though. Ideally tomorrow will be my main day of work for that, and then I can move onto writing my story for my HP class project.

Another one run loss tonight (shocking, I know), and our playoff position seems to be fixed in 4th as we know that we’re playing McKinney in the first round. A home game got added for tomorrow against ex-district member Terrell to balance out the lost game from last weekend, and then the last regular season/district game is next Friday against Heath. The schedule effectively shifts now to series of games each weekend with the first part of the week open. Nice for scheduling in some ways; not so nice in others.
A down side that I realized to having a game tomorrow is that I likely won’t be at home for the start of the NFL Draft. Any other year, who cares, but Stafford is supposed to be the #1 pick tomorrow by the Lions. With a reported 6 year, $78 million contract being signed, I have to wonder if I shouldn’t have worked on my athletic skills just a tiny bit more back in high school. Microsoft isn’t going to be paying me quite that much.

I didn’t quite get to everywhere that I wanted to go shopping today, but I still hit my big purchase. My current laptop I got right before I started school at UTD, so it’s almost 4 years old. It was $1500 then but also a tablet, so it wasn’t exactly top of the line even at that point in time, and it’s definitely starting to show its age. Therefore, when Microcenter was having a sale for a decently specced laptop originaly for $1000 but with a $200 rebate, I felt the time was right to do ahead and upgrade. Sure, I could have gone the online ordering route and customized a Dell or HP, but dude, I got an Apple!
The rebate was because it’s not the newest aluminum version that Apple has out, so they’re (most likely) just trying to clear out their existing inventory of the older models. I haven’t opened it yet and probably won’t until the start of next week just to see if they bump up the rebate amount, in which case I’ll go back so that I can get it for even cheaper. Until then, it shall sit of my floor, staring at me unopened, silently mocking me that of all the companies I could have bought a computer from after getting a job with Microsoft, I chose to go with Apple. I guess this officially makes me a switcher now.

As simple (and drastically important) as being able to post from my phone is, nothing can really compare with having a real keyboard and not having to fight with my phone’s autochange (autocorrect is giving it a little too much credit). For this 732nd consecutive post, I really don’t have much to say aside from asking if anyone wants to take bets on if I can make it a third year. There can be a side pot on whether I’ll reach 1000 (which would be on January 15th, 2010), so just let me know if you want some odds.
If all goes according to plan, I’ll have numerous purchases to talk about tomorrow. Some will be pretty boring (like report covers from OfficeMax), but there are one or two that could prove to be slightly interesting. When I say “according to plan”, that basically means that I force myself to be unlazy enough to actually go to all the stores that I need to frequent because I don’t think that I can get any two things on my list at a single store. It’s much easier and less time consuming to buy things from four internet shops than four real shops.

Perhaps it’s fitting that is a post I’m making from Royse City because without the ability to post from my phone, I definitely couldn’t be making this post today. One year ago today I was posting about the incredible feat of going a whole year without missing a day of posting. Today I’m able to say that, unexpected as it may be, I’ve expanded that streak to two years.
If I thought one straight year of posting would never be broken, two years will likely be near impossible for me. This year had trips to Japan and Seattle, and not even international travel could interrupt my postings. A third year will include my first instance of moving, so we’ll just have to wait and see if that will be my downfall or if it will take something even greater.
