When I’m writing a program and I introduce bugs, that’s one thing. I generally know what I did to make things screw up, and it’s not an excruciatingly painful experience to rectify the situation. However, I decided to look at the homepage of this before making my post. Apparently, without me touching anything, the CSS or something for this theme got high and started changing itself. The title which is typically in caps is no longer that way in Firefox, isn’t aligned against the line in Chrome, and doesn’t even appear at all in IE. In addition to that, the sidebar forgets where it’s supposed to be in the layout on the About page in both IE and Chrome. Debugging this is not high on my priority list, and if I have to find another theme, I will.
My database program got successfully completed on time, and I’ve dropped off the game event programs to be printed at FedEx Office (formerly known as FedEx Kinko’s). I lied slightly yesterday about everything being done aside from the programs; I still have to go buy a ton of drinks for people to have with the food. This also involves me borrowing a bunch of coolers from people so that I can keep 500 drinks cold throughout the day. Have a spare cooler I can borrow for Saturday?

My database project is coming along without too many issues arising (and those that are tend to be Java’s fault more than anything else). My UTD email still doesn’t work (and my extension, I assume my teacher’s doesn’t either) so I haven’t been able to reach him to ask my question about the assignment. Still, I plan on having everything done before class tomorrow, I can ask my questions then, and I’ll have an hour or two afterwards to make any last minute changes before needing to go to HP for the game.
Everything for the game event is done now except for me taking the programs to be printed which I’ll be doing tomorrow. Overall, everything came together quite nicely without too much scrambling at the end (so far). It will be nice to get back to my evenings of relaxing and watching Alias once again; all this work is so boring and time consuming.

I finally found a way to be able to use the video from my Vado HD without jumping through more than one hoop (even if that hoop at the moment does happen to lose the HD-ness, but I’m past caring about that at the moment). This means I’ll probably go back and redo the ones I’ve already done (the Crayton “directed” one still needs audio work done on it anyway), and then hopefully this workflow should be good enough for making the rest of them. Ironically I’m using the video editing program that I hate the most (Premiere), but whatever works, I guess.
Once I solved that problem, I went about the process of creating most of the program for the game event next Saturday. UTD’s email has been down all weekend, so I haven’t really been able to email any of our presenters asking for a description, so if I can’t get that by Tuesday I’ll simply make up something that sounds good. Aside from that, the last big thing I need to take care of this week is the food arrangements, and then everything should (hopefully) be good.
Finally, after that was done, I started working on my database class project. Fortunately, I reread the assignment, and what it says is due is much simpler than what I would have programmed not having looked at the assignment again. I will confirm that before I take the newly open easy path in front of me, but my next two days might be much simpler than I was initially planning on them being.

Tonight seems like a very good night to watch some more Alias for the first time in a while, so that’s what I think I’ll do. Some might argue that my time could be better spent on reading Order of the Phoenix or doing my database program, but to them I would say that there’s plenty of time before either of those things are due to work on those. Besides, who wants to do work at 11:40 at night?
After two nights of playing LotRO, I think I can safely say that while the game is “fun”, I probably won’t hang around to play and will head back to WoW in a couple of weeks. The game, especially the UI, just doesn’t feel like it has the same amount of polish put into it that WoW has. Also, as much as I was against the use of addons just a year or two ago, not having that level of customization is a very annoying then when you want to be able to tweak something to your liking.

Holy crap, weather gods. Whatever someone did to piss you off, you definitely responded. Tonight’s game might have just been my coldest sporting event period since the Everman fooball playoff game last year, and that one was freezing to begin with. Granted, I only felt your wrath for slightly over half the game thanks to Crayton going inside to ice, but seriously, no more of this please?
I’ve downloaded the trial for The Lord of the Rings Online and will (possibly) be playing it for the next week or so, and after that I feel like Azeroth might be graced by my return. I guess it’s within the realm of possibility that I’ll love LotRO and want to keep playing it for longer in which case I won’t be returning to WoW so soon. Real estate might be all location, location, location, but with MMOs it’s all about gameplay, gameplay, gameplay.

I’ve started to play around with making Crayton’s documentatry video, and the current idea is that it’s going to be in three parts. Then, looking at the overall videos for the whole season, adding in one for senior night like I’m thinking about would make another trilogy. So, we’re going to have a trilogy inside of a trilogy. Unfortunately there’s not going to be a trilogy of trilogies, as I just don’t feel like making that many videos. As it stand right now it’ll be five, and that’s more than enough for me.
Everything seems to falling into place nicely for the game event next weekend, so hopefully nothing unexpected will crop up next week. As long as I can make it through next week with my sanity in check, I think I should be good for the entire rest of the year. With under two months left, not much could so wrong aside from me failing one of the three classes I’m in that I have to hve in order to graduate. Doing that would be most unfortunate at this point. The good news is that I don’t think it’s very likely to happen.

Monday, I complain about SQL Server being evil, and an hour or two later I find the evil thing that was making it not work. Yesterday, I talk about the incompatible video files that my camera makes, and not only do I find a batch converter, I also find a simple editor (maybe too simple, but we’ll see) that can work directly with them. Little did I know that I don’t need magic powers, my blog apparently has them!
My Alias watching has been lacking recently, but hopefully I’ll get a chance to catch up sometime soon. I have very little “nightly” homework between now and the end of the semester. Mainly the only thing I have left are big projects. Now, those can be a whole different sort problem if procrastinated, but I’d never be one to do that, right?

Going to my Wordpress dashboard before making this post, I was greeted with a large number of 1s and 2s in all of the numerical fields. As of right now (as I’m writing this, so not including this post) there are 1,111 posts, 1 page, and 22 comments (all 22 of which are approved). After I post this there will still be an abundance of both numbers, they just won’t occur in as pure of groups as they do right now.
For Crayton and I do this this documentary project of his, I have to find a better way to go about editing the clips I get off of my Vado HD than what I did before. The big trick is really just getting it converted into a format that whatever software I’m using likes, and ocne I can accomplish that, everything else should be relatively easy. A solution that incorporates batch functionality will be quite nice seeing as how I’m looking at about 70 or so clips that I potentially need to work with for this one.

As if to say welcome back to school, the work I tried to do on my next database class assignment failed miserably. What needs to happen is that I need to be able to talk with the database server over TCP/IP so that the program we write can ultimately run against a server running on a different machine, but as of now I can’t even get it’s configuration program to talk to it that way, much less any other program of my choosing. I’d pay good money to be able to fold my arms, blink my eyes, and have everything working perfectly even if I had no clue why. For all I care the magic internet gerbils can be the cause of it working.
Tonight during Chuck I was texting Jess (you didn’t think yesterday’s post was going to be a one time thing, did you?) about the episode while it was going on, and it was both weird yet entertaining to have that side conversation going on at the same time. Typically we talk about Chuck during the ride on the bus or at the baseball game the next day, so apparently we’re going to have to come up with another topic for our conversation at Rl Turner tomorrow. Hopefully it won’t be about how much our team sucks or how miserable the weather is, but I think it’s a pretty safe bet that we won’t be straying into those areas.

A few minutes ago via text message, one of my friends informed me that I never mention his name or one of my other friends from the baseball team by name. When asked why this was, I didn’t actually have an answer beyond that was just how I subconsciously thought about writing the sentences. So, at the request of my friend who wants his name in my blog, I shall cease referring to people by generic nouns and begin using their real names. Good? Good.
Oh right, maybe I should actually start with this post. Fine, Jess was the one who texted me that and brought to my attention the fact that very rarely do I ever refer to anyone except for Andrew by name. Crayton was the other person he specifically mentioned (and not to anger the rest of the baseball team, but if they want their names here, they need to do something blog worthy). He would also be the documentary-requesting captain from yesterday’s post. Now that I’m on this new path of name dropping, does that mean I can start taking bribes for including a comment about how awesome someone is? Hmmm, I possibly don’t need to go work for Microsoft after all…
