Time to Go Sampling

January 22nd, 2009

Yesterday I went ahead and cancelled my WoW account (although I can continue to play it up through the 2nd) so that I could try out the trials of many of the other MMOs currently out on the market. Since getting through all of the trials for the games I can think of would take about two months or so, I saw no point in paying for WoW when I’d in effect not be playing it at all. I was expecting the first game that I’d try out to be Tabula Rasa since it’s shutting down at the end of February, but amazingly enough, that title goes to SWG. Yeah, I know. I had logged into my Station account just to take a look at it, and my account was maked as having a 15 day trial subscription to SWG. After downloading it and creating a new character to take a look at how the NGE stuff had changed it, I can definitely say that it’s quite a different game. There are now actually beginning quests rather than your character just being dropped off in the middle of the world, and it seems like they’ve really learned from other game on the market. The graphics are kind of dated and it’s still not a blast to play, but if it got about a 2.5 from when I played it originally, that score can jump up to a solid 6 or so now.

This weekend will be my next to last free one until almost the end of March due to baseball. This is something that I’ve gotten used to over time so it’s not anything new to me, but it does lessen my free time on the weekends. I guess that if you compare it with the alternative of me staying inside and playing games all the time, having baseball is probably the better alternative.
