Firefox locked up on me one too many times yesterday, so I downloaded Google Chrome in order to try it out. It definitely has some interesting features, but there are also a couple of things that Firefox has which I really miss. Since Chrome has no plugin system (that I can find anyway), it’s not like I can add those things in myself either. Currently I’m running both in parallel; I’ll give it a couple weeks and see if I seem to standardize on one or not.
Inkheart was better than the last Brendan Fraser movie I went to go see (Journey to the Center of the Earth), but it still doesn’t match either of the first two Mummy movies. This, like Stardust (and ok, Journey also) was based on a book, and also like Stardust there was something about it that just seemed odd to me, like it wasn’t a movie that anyone would have made if the book wasn’t there to base it on. Likely not a DVD purchase either, but one I’d rewatch on the movie channels. My score: 7/10.

After ignoring it for far too long, I finally uploaded some more of the pictures I took in Japan to my Facebook account. Another full album, in fact, and I’m still not completely done. I only made my witty comments on about half of them so far, so I’ll probably work on finishing those up before I choose to upload any more. Hopefully there’s only one album worth of pictures left; that would bring the total up to a max of 180, and that just seems like enough pictures for a two week trip.
Tomorrow I’m going to spend my last free Saturday (the first half of it anyway) at the movies seeing Inkheart. I’ve seen a trailer or two, it looks like it might be entertaining enough, but I’m not going to go in with too high of expectations. It doesn’t always matter how good the movie is, but what does matter is how you fell about it once you leave. Go ahead, feel free to steal that quote and use it yourself. You know it’s pretty awesome.

Yeah, I had to go to school today. Yeah, I would rather have stayed home again. As it worked out, I only went to one of my classes more than once this week (my Wizard of Oz and HP one). With two 4-day school weeks in a row, going back to a normal schedule is going to be totally not fun.
Between the end of my class tomorrow and my first class on Monday, I have nothing scheduled except for two potential glow in the dark frisbee games. Seeing as how the temperature hasn’t been exactly high in the past 48 hours or so, I’m not sure if I’ll be going. That’s actually a really bad gauge of what the temperature will be like 24 or 48 hours from now though, so I’ll probably just be playing it by feel.

No school!!! There’s something that just never gets old about that…
I actually woke up about 7:30 this morning of my own volition, saw the clock next to the side of my bed, and thought “screw that, I’m going back to sleep”. I slept/stayed in bed until 11:00, and then the rest of my day played out just like I planned it would. Lots of TV, some games, and a whole lot of resting. Alas, my day will be back to normal tomorrow, but we can’t have too many days of school canceled or else they’ll want to try to have us make them up at the end of the year. That’s totally not cool with me.
I had to make myself stop watching Youtube videos of game shows so that I’d make this post, and even that was a distraction for me from finishing up my essay. I don’t care if I get to write on The Wizard of Oz, it’s still a paper, it’s still a writing assignment, and that makes it still boring. Granted, there are varying levels of boringness and this ranks pretty low, but writing a paper vs. watching Youtube? Should there even be any question??

Ok, well, today wasn’t exactly a snow day (as in, no snow anywhere to be seen), but I did have my school day modified. UTD closed at three because of a currently in progress ice storm that could very well do some delaying or canceling of school tomorrow. I of course won’t know until the morning, but I’ve tasked my mom with waking me up if there isn’t any school so that I can leave my alarm off and potentially sleep later. If there isn’t school tomorrow, this will basically be an exact repeat of two years ago last week. The reason I remember that is because we had MLK Day off, went to school on Tuesday, and then had school canceled on Wednesday. One of the stranger three day weeks I’d ever had.
If I have no school tomorrow, I’ll likely just pretend that it’s Saturday. That will mean I probably won’t do anything non-entertaining except for finish up my paper due on Thursday. Fortunately none of my other classes are in heavy project mode yet, but I fear that won’t last for too much longer…

Dallas really gets about one “snow day” a year, and looking at my little weather forecast widget gadget, tomorrow might be that day for 2009. High of 34, low of 26, and a little picture of snowflakes next to it. Now, it’s not like the weather people are always accurate in their predictions or anything like that, but we’ll see when I wake up tomorrow if I’m going to have any school to go to or not.
This warm-cold cycle really needs to stop before baseball starts, preferably in the favor of more warm weather. The two times I’ve been down to Austin it’s been freezing cold, so maybe this year it can not be miserable for a change. Last year when I was there I speculated about how handy an iPhone 3G would be. I guess I’ll be able to test that out for myself in just about a month.

Ever since I decided to move on from WoW temporarily, I haven’t really settled down with a single game. I played a little bit of SWG (but it was almost too WoW like in it’s nature for me to want to play it), I’ve activated my Tabula Rasa account but have yet to start playing, and I downloaded the demo of the non-MMO game Galactic Civilizations II. I figure something will click with me sooner or later, but until then I’ll just keep wandering around, looking for a new game to call home.
As I keep searching for that game, I’ll continue to spend my computer time doing things like catching up on TV episodes and (procrastinating) doing homework. I’m still working through Alias as my show of choice right now, and it should remain that way for a while longer still. Watching an entire series that went for five full seasons isn’t exactly a quick undertaking unless it’s a show like Chuck that is just so insanely awesome, you could just watch an entire season in a day.

I’m not sure if I’d rather have these drastic, 30 degree swings in temperature or if having a more gradual change would be better. Regardless, it was in the 70s yesterday and the 40s today, so I basically just stayed inside. As a result, my day was full of computer and TV. Quite the appropriate way to spend one of my last two Saturdays protected from the elements I’d say.
I think my only homework due this next week is a three page paper on The Wizard of Oz due on Thursday, so tomorrow should be relatively light for me homework wise. I know, it doesn’t seem very college like to not have to spend 5-6 hours toiling over assignments, but do you see me complaining? Exactly, I think not!!

Right now, I have zero planned for this weekend. Thaere’s a frisbee game that may or may not happen on Sunday, but seeing as how the temperature is supposed to be in the 40-50 range, I think I’ll probably pass. That leaves me an awesome 48+ hours that I can use to do whatever I want. I’ll probably spend some of that time doing homework, but as I said before, with this being my next to last free Saturday for a while, I might as well focus on enjoying it.
For the remainder of tonight, I’m very likely to pop some ibuprofen for my headache and then watch an episode or two of Alias. I wish that I could rotate my desk so that I could watch it while in my bed, but my desk does not comtain super rotating powers. Yes, the obvious answer of rotating the monitor is also an option, but with my three screens all on my desk, any sort of rearrangement has to be done very carefully.

Yesterday I went ahead and cancelled my WoW account (although I can continue to play it up through the 2nd) so that I could try out the trials of many of the other MMOs currently out on the market. Since getting through all of the trials for the games I can think of would take about two months or so, I saw no point in paying for WoW when I’d in effect not be playing it at all. I was expecting the first game that I’d try out to be Tabula Rasa since it’s shutting down at the end of February, but amazingly enough, that title goes to SWG. Yeah, I know. I had logged into my Station account just to take a look at it, and my account was maked as having a 15 day trial subscription to SWG. After downloading it and creating a new character to take a look at how the NGE stuff had changed it, I can definitely say that it’s quite a different game. There are now actually beginning quests rather than your character just being dropped off in the middle of the world, and it seems like they’ve really learned from other game on the market. The graphics are kind of dated and it’s still not a blast to play, but if it got about a 2.5 from when I played it originally, that score can jump up to a solid 6 or so now.
This weekend will be my next to last free one until almost the end of March due to baseball. This is something that I’ve gotten used to over time so it’s not anything new to me, but it does lessen my free time on the weekends. I guess that if you compare it with the alternative of me staying inside and playing games all the time, having baseball is probably the better alternative.
