Out of the “Where in the world did that come from?” department, I arrived home to a beta invite in my inbox for Wrath of the Lich King, the new WoW expansion that should be coming out in the next few months. Seeing as how I had homework to do tonight I haven’t installed or done anything with it yet, but I definitely now have something else to do this weekend. Not actually a good thing, but definitely higher on the interest list than some of the other entries.
As of right now, tomorrow is the same as last Thursday (the real last Thursday, not the fake one where I thought I was going to be at HP) except for the fact that I’m going to Coppell rather than Frisco. Friday I’m heading to HP around noon to re-begin my work with Mr. Barrows on the online physics class. Most likely that will involve some more lab setups and recording them, but that’s purely just a guess at this point.

Yet again I’m speechless (as in, having nothing to post about), and my conclusion is that it’s the fault of my daily posts. If I made, say, weekly posts, they’d probably be longer and have more substance. That would, obviously, put a slight kick in my daily posting streak, so I think I’ll hold off on something like that for the time being. All that said, I’ll take suggestions for any ways to make these posts more interesting. And when I say anything, I mean just about anything.
I should have about 3 packages arriving from UPS tomorrow, one of which will be the parts to set up our new file server. That will probably be a combination project for this weekend and next (since next weekend there are no games, and I forsee this project taking longer than the time I’ll have to dedicate to it this weekend. However, once I have everything up and running as planned (including another purchase or two that my parents shoudl cover), the whole thing should end up being quite nice.

With Steam, I have a couple friends that exclusively buy their PC games through it now rather than getting a boxed copy. With the infinite redownloads that Valve offers, that’s actually a decent platform. With EA, on the other hand, their download service only lets you get it for six months unless you pay for an “extended service” fee which will let you download it for two years. That said, I think I’ll stick with my hard copy of Spore that I can install whenever I want (DRM activations issue permitting).
This of course led me onto another one of my DRM thoughts and what the best way to handle it is so that the consumer doesn’t get royally screwed over like they do with SecuROM. I don’t believe no copy protection is necessarily the best way to go, but SecuROM needs to go die a horrible death. It is a Sony product, so I guess that conclusion shouldn’t be too shocking.

Spore is pretty much just as awesome as I had thought (hoped) it would be. So far I’m only partially into the second of the five stages, but what I’ve played so far is really, really fun. The reviews it’s been getting have been somewhat mixed but still overall positive, so while it may not end up being an overwhelming GOTY contender like Bioshock was, it’ll probably rank up with both that and Portal on my personal list.
I watched some of Sarah Connor Chronicles last night and am going to watch more before I go to sleep tonight, but I doubt I’ll be able to finish the whole first season before the season premiere tomorrow night. I’ll be doing the same with Heroes before the end of the month, but the shows that I really want to see (Prison Break, Chuck, and the new show Fringe) I don’t have that issue with. Man, how did people ever live without some form of video on demand?? :)

There’s a notification at the top of my admin panel that says: “WordPress 2.6.1 is available! Please update now.” However, in their dev blog, they say that if you aren’t having any problems with 2.6, there’s no need to upgrade since it’s purely a bugfix release. So, since I’m not having any problems I don’t need to update, but there’s that notification yelling at me every night when I’m making a post.
I had kinda forgotten that I never finished up the upgrade of our HTPC, and when my dad wanted to watch some football via it tonight, I had all sorts of problems. As it turns out, I had never actually bothered to activate Windows or give SageTV its license key, so both of those were screaming at me. After that, I had a long troubleshooting process of why, when I knew everything was plugged into the correct spot, SageTV couldn’t get a TV signal. A driver upgrade apparently fixed that, so all is happy in HTPC land for the time being. All I know is, it’s not going to last…

Opening kickoff gets kicked from one end of the field, we catch it at the other end, and then we run it back to the first end of the field for a touchdown. Sure, Frisco Liberty tied it at 7-7 within two minutes, but when the final score is 42-14, do we care about small issues such as that? I could have sworn that next week was our off week, but we have another game at HP against Coppell and then our off week comes up.
I have no plans for this weekend aside from (hopefully) doing some homework. If I don’t then I’m screwing myself over to come extent with all of the work I’m going to have to do at nights next week. Since that’s not really in my plans either, hopefully I can force myself to become proactive enough that it won’t become an issue.

I give up; I just plain, flat out give up. I assumed that since I hadn’t heard anything as of yesterday, I would be working the games at HP. WRONG!!! I ended up going to Frisco with Coach Harris, and according to him, I’ll now be traveling all Thursdays when JV plays away. Ok, that’s a complete switch from the schedule Coach Gibbins gave me, but at this point, I’ll just be happy with anything that’s more reliable than flipping a coin.
Tomorrow, however, hasn’t presented any surprises so far. The game is still at HP, the time is still 7:30, and I still need to be at the stadium at 5:30 like last year. Some of what we’re doing for the game has changed, but at least those are random and seem to be for the better. Just wait though, something strange is boind to come up.

Well…as of right now nothing has been sprung on me for tomorrow, so maybe, just maybe, I’ll end up doing what I’ve been thinking I would be doing. That would be going to the stadium for two home games (one at 5:30, the other at 7:00 — really more like “whenever the first one finishes plus 10-15 minutes”). In my opinion that should just call it like it is, but they feel like they should give some resemblance of a schedule though, so who am I to argue?
It would probably be beneficial to start doing more of my game class writing earlier in the week so that I don’t have 3/4 of it to write in the last two days. Granted, it’s not particularly challenging, but it is a much more stream of conscious type of writing this way. It’s still topping my list for favorite class this semester, but it also held that spot in the pre-semester rankings.

I’ve sat here, playing WoW, trying to think of what to type. The fact that you’re hearing (fine, reading) this means that I have yet to come up with anything interesting to type about. I, um, did some stuff today… and I didn’t die?
I’ve already said what I’m doing the rest of the week; that hasn’t changed any. So yeah, I had nothing to talk about tonight. Still made a post though, there’s my dedication for all you faithful readers.

Ah, homework, how I hate you for taking up my precious time that could otherwise be spent doing useless things that serve no real purpose but are infinitely more entertaining. For a day when we’re supposed to get a break from working, I spent quite a bit of the afternoon doing just that. Nevermind that the name of the holiday itself is slightly misleading for its intended purpose; shouldn’t a day where we celebrate labor mean that everyone works especially hard?
The rest of the week is as normal as any are going to be for the rest of the semester. Games on Thursday and Friday (like they’re supposed to be), no other big events going on. All in all, it seems very ordinary. Too ordinary? Perhaps, but would I really want to find out the alternative?
