I do the exact same stuff that I’d be doing anyway: play games and watch TV. In fact, I think the only times I wasn’t doing one of those two things are when I was going to get my lunch and dinner. No one can really make the argument that I’m not set in my ways.
Tomorrow morning I’m going down to HP to talk with Coach Gibbins, and then I’m going to work with Mr. McDonald some. That’s basically my entire day save for the more TV and games that will follow once I get home tomorrow afternoon. Then, time to repeat the day on Wednesday (sans the HP part)! Yep, my life is really interesting…

I can only write “I did nothing today except play WoW” so many times before even I get tired of it. Truth is though, I have nothing else to write about. No school, no sports, nothing of any other interest happens for another couple weeks. I believe that this is one of the signs that summer has gone on long enough and it’s time for school to start once again.
One of the problems with having blogger’s block is that ocne you’ve written about not having anything to write about, you (very predictably) don’t have anything else to write about. If you did have something to write about, then you wouldn’t have had blogger’s block in the first place and wouldn’t have written about how you had nothing to write about. Ironically, you still has something to write about though since you wrote about the blogger’s block that prevented you from being able to come up with anything else to write about.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d much rather have a functional computer than one that did nothing, but having everything work fine mere days after a giant overhaul does kind of make the fact that nothing needs to be tweaked glaringly apparent. Aside from playing games and browsing the web, there’s basically nothing for me to do. Sure, I could go ahead and install a bunch of programs I don’t need at the moment, but that’ll just end up cluttering everything up. Install as needed, and nothing completely useless should ever make it onto the system.
Aside from WoW today, the rest of my life was pretty boring. Not boring in the “I have nothing to do” sense (because, after all, I obviously had WoW to play) but more in the way of nothing special or interesting happening. The floor of my room has almost recovered from the explosion of computer parts that occured 48 hours ago, but there are still many more boxes than usual. I’ll probably hold onto everything until early next week, and then once I feel comfortable with everything working fine, I’ll go ahead and start tossing stuff then.

The fact that I did absolutely nothing today has thrown my body clock for a loop. My mind is going to be so confused when it’s not Sunday tomorrow, as I’ve had to keep telling myself mentally that tonight is *not* Saturday night. Two Saturdays in a row? There are times during the rest of the year where I’d kill for something like that.
My computer has been working fine overall; a couple weird oddities exist, but those can probably be smoothed out without too much work on my part. I have all of the basic stuff working, and I even have WoW reinstalled (it was, of course, the first game I put on). So far my new monitor hasn’t been the cause of any weird glitches, but I’m sure those are bound to happen with some programs. Widescreen monitor support, especially in older games, isn’t all that prevalent, so I may have to come up with some workaround whenever I want to start putting stuff like that on here.

Amazingly enough all of my monitors will fit on my desk now, but my speakers have been displaced to a higher shelf. I’m almost at the point where I have to start cannabalizing parts from this computer, so here’s my so here’s my post that I both did and didn’t predict for today from my old computer still. I shouldn’t have any difficulty getting a working system by the time I go to sleep tonight, but there’s going to be an insane amount of customization work that will be going on tomorrow.
My initial plan was to just do an “incremental” backup an anything that had changed post-Quakecon, but I think what I’ll do is just go ahead and do full backups of everything that I want in order to remain on the safe side. Actually, quite a bit of what I backup isn’t even coming back onto the computer. Sure, some of the stuff from my My Docs directory will, but I’m going to go with a new Firefox profile, a new WoW install, and just about a new everything else. Ok, my Outlook fine will also be coming over, but when you consider the amount of download files and stuff that I’ve collected over the past three years, my filesystem is going to be a barren wasteland compared to what it is right now.

Since everything arrived in Mesquite at about 9 this morning, I should have all of my computer parts by tomorrow afternoon. Depending on how effectively I assemble everything, this could possibly be my last post from this computer. Sure, “this computer” is a little ill defined in the sense of what I’m doing, but with the case, motherboard, processor, and OS all changing, I think it’s safe to consider this and the future one as two different computers.
If I had to wager though, I’ll be making another post tomorrow from this setup. I’ll probably get everything assembled but the hard drives tomorrow, but then I’ll make a post, do one last backup, and then start the whole process of moving the drives over to the new computer (since they’ll all be getting formatted as a part of the transfer). On one hand, I’ll have a squeaky clean new filesystem; on the other, I better make sure I have everything backed up that I want to save.

The 2008 slogan for HP Football is “Fight to the Finish”, hence the title. It’s quite similar to Halo 3‘s “Finish the Fight”, but I don’t think that’s where they got it from. My guess is that there’s some underlying reference to the state final game last year, but that loss arguably really wasn’t our fault at all.
Fortunately the rest of my week is pretty boring, so nothing will distract me from my computer reconstruction. According to UPS, the stuff will be arriving on Thursday, and my mom says that she’ll be here all day in order to sign for it. This is a good thing because I can start doing stuff on Thursday nigth rather than needing to wait until Friday.

Wow, I’m not sure if MGS4 knows what it even is, much less what it wants to be. The first 30 minutes or so ranked so high on the “WTF? Scale” that I went ahead and watched The Matrix Revolutions last night instead. I’ll definitely continue playing it, but at least now I know not to go in expecting anything.
I spent over $1400 this afternoon buying all the parts for my computer upgrade, so they should hopefully get here Thursday or Friday. Most likely the parts that don’t get reused from my current computer will remain in my room until I get finanical approval for the file server upgrade. That one won’t be nearly as expensive since it’ll basically just be hard drives, and after that purchase, I should be good for a while.

I finally beat my first PS3 game today (R&C Future: Tools of Destruction), and rather than finish out The Matrix trilogy tonight like I was planning on, I’ll likely start on my only other PS3 game. The whole Metal Gear Solid series is known for it’s lengthy cutscenes, and apparently #4 doesn’t back off in the slighest. So, since I don’t want to get caught in the middle of a 90 minute cutscene and miss making a post, I’m writing this and taking my shower before I begin playing it.
One of the things that has been bugging me about WordPress is the fact that while my posts show up with the correct time after I publish them, the “Draft Saved” time on the page that I write them on is always an hour fast. Apparently this is a known bug (which is a good thing) but to my knowledge doesn’t have a fix planned to implemented yet (surprisingly, because it seems like it would be a very trivial fix). Does that mean I want to dive into the code and fix it myself? No, not really; I can wait for an official fix to come out since it really isn’t hurting anything.

Last night before I watched The Matrix, I went through the archives and looked at many of the posts where I have posted a movie rating. After the first couple of reviews, I realized that I tended to have my scores fall into one of three categories: movies that I enjoyed and bought, movies that I hated and would never go near again, and then movies that were entertaining but not really worth a purchase. As it turns out, over the 4+ years of posting, my scale has stayed pretty consistent. Anything over an 8 I’ve gone to get on DVD, anything in the 7-ish range are the border cases, then anything below that I haven’t bought on DVD. I think one of my upcoming additions to this site will be a collection of all the scores I’ve ever given just so I have that record and don;t need to result to searches in order to be able to fine my score for a given movie.
The last day of Quakecon was fun, and I’m now rightfully posting again from my soon to be upgraded computer. That purchase will likely happen Monday, everything should arrive by Thursday or Friday, and then next weekend can be my big upgrade party. Well, it probably won’t be as much as a party as it will be a whole lot of complaining and sanity questioning, but at least that will provide some good post material for those days.
