A Second False Start in as Many Weeks

August 21st, 2008

Tomorrow is HP’s second football scrimmage, and fortunately it’s also the last. The whole idea of “playing” football but not keeping score or following some of the rules for ball movement just strikes me as very strange. Next week will be the ramp of doom, but at least it’s a real game then.

The time I have to be at HP tomorrow got pushed back an hour, so now I get to show up at 1:30. Apparently this rescheduling is because the “game” times have been pushed back (my guess would be by an hour). As usual, the trainers were the last to learn of this important notification, but I guess all is good.

Better to Test Now than Never

August 20th, 2008

No longer needing to post via email, I can post from an application on my iPhone. Since I want to make sure that it works before it really matters, I figured a post from home would be the best since I can handle damage control if necessary. Typing isn’t the fastest in the world, but it wasn’t on my blackberry either.

I’m waking up at 7 tomorrow to get ready for school, and my first class is at 10. That’s really the only thing on my schedule for tomorrow, so I’m not what my plans for the afternoon will be. Maybe those Japan pictures I’ve still yet to put up?

On iPhone I Talk

August 19th, 2008

Today I finally became the owner of my very own iPhone; I’m now eligible to join the exclusive club that millions of other people all around the world are part of. Rather than moving my contacts over automatically, I went ahead and just typed in the ones that I wanted to keep. That actually trimmed my contact list by about a third, but I’m sure it’ll get filled back up before too long.

My dad also got a new car today, and I went along with him under the guide of just being his “tech advisor”. Well, I ended up being that plus the “person who sits around bored out of his mind for another two hours while starving to death”. Needless to say, I don’t intend on knowingly agreeing to any more car shopping trips if an actual purchase on that trip is a possibility.

If They Only Had a Brain

August 18th, 2008

Since apparently my 3.96 GPA doesn’t speak for itself that I might in fact know something, I registered to take the GRE a week from Friday (a week when the football game is on Saturday). I call it SAT Version 2 because that’s what it really appears to be; same type of questions, but at a higher level (I’d assume). Their practice materials come in the form of a downloadable program that has example tests, so I’ll need to work that into my super busy (*snicker*) schedule over the next week and a half.

Against all of my logic and initial thoughts, I’m going to see Tropic Thunder tomorrow. I’ve read enough about it online that I’d like to think that I know what to expect, but in reality I may or may not. I guess that as long as it’s funny, I can be entertained enough that it will be worth going to see.

Three Days to Rest, Relax, and Play

August 17th, 2008

The only thing I’m doing over the next couple of days that could in any way be thought of as doing “work” is going to get my books for school. Aside from that, I’m going to see a movie, watching TV, playing video games, and just resting over my last couple days of summer. For not having a real internship this year, I think that I stayed quite busy over the summer.

I’d say that if I were to have a “goal” over the next few days, it would be to finish getting pictures of my Japan trip online. I have the first set up on my Facebook profile, but I still have another album or two worth to add. There are even some on the phone that I need to pull off, and I should really do that before my iPhone switch so that none of those get lost to the technology gods.

Nothing Short of Incredible

August 16th, 2008

Michael Phelps just won his 8th gold medal earlier this evening, and a couple of those races were so close that it could have very easily been only 6 golds. With all the hype surrounding him now over I’m not sure how much more of the Olympics I’m going to be watching, but I’ll probably have it on in the background at least a couple times. Most likely, if there’s anything that I really want to see, I’ll catch a video of it online rather than watching it live.

Just five days until school starts for me, but I then get to immediately go on a three (almost four) day weekend. I still need to go get my books, so I’ll probably do that sometime on Monday or Tuesday. One of my classes shouldn’t have any books to get, so hopefully the number will be quite manageable.

Once Again Longing for HP

August 15th, 2008

With football this year (as with last year), I’m really going to miss not still living in HP with all of the traveling to and from HP that I’m going to be doing. Even tonight, I’m going down to HP to hang out with Sam, and live would just be so much more convenient if it was like a 5 minute drive rather than a 15-20 minute one. Sure, I’d be driving back and forth to UTD more, but I’d still rather be living there than in Plano.

Tomorrow actually makrs the first day that I get to experience the trip for football, and I have to wake up in the morning at about 7:30 so that I can get ready and be at the stadium at 8:45. Fortunately it’s just going to be a morning thing so I’ll have the rest of the day to do whatever. Not that I really need to do anything else tomorrow, but it’s nice to know that the time is there in case anything comes up.

Some Things Should Just Stay Dead

August 14th, 2008

The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are both movies that stand very well on their own, and neither really leave any unanswered questions at the ending that would prompt a sequel. The new one (which has a really long subtitle that I don’t want to type out) does set up a sequel which is slightly off, and the ending doesn’t feel as clean as it otherwise could. I don’t know their plans for possibly setting this up as a franchise that is infinitely expandable, but it doesn’t really need to be done.

My review of the new one can basically be summed up with “It’s an ok movie”. Above average, not awesome, and probably only worth a purchase since I own (and really like) the first two. It’s not better than either of the first two IMO but not necessarily for any of the big reasons. The actress change for Evy isn’t jarring, the grown up son is believable enough for me, and the story/setting is even decent. My main issues were the writing (some of it just didn’t work for me) and the editing, and if those two stay consistent in any of the future installments, the series will never reach the level of the original two. My score: 7/10.

The Great Music Organization Project

August 13th, 2008

With new computers come the implemention of ideas in planning for quite a while. This time that idea happened to be organzing my entire music collection into a hierarchy that made at least a decent amount of sense so that when looking for songs on our server, it wouldn’t an entire crapshoot to try to find it. There’s still some tweaking and additional work to be done, but I’m happy with the progress I’ve made so far.

With the reviews that Tropic Thunder has been getting, I think I’m going to go see it even though I haven’t been hooked by the trailers. Tomorrow, however, I’m going with my grandparents to see the new The Mummy movie that is out. I don’t even know what kind of reviews it has been getting, but considering how much I like the first two, I’d go see it regardless of the reviews. Actually, that statement is kind of misleading because I go see quite a few movies without taking reviews into account.

Just Four Posts Too Late

August 12th, 2008

If somewhere in the history of this blog I had managed to make four most posts, then I would be making post #888 on 08-08-08. Alas, it wasn’t to be, and I have to settle for just being close. Really should have been thinking that one out way more in advance. Now, the question is, if post 888 would have come on 08-07-08, would I have broken my streak just to get the two to match up?

Even though no trainers are being sent to away freshman/JV games this year, I’m still busy with football every Thursday and Friday (with the exception of the Fridays of weeks with Thursday varsity games). This will equate to very busy end of the weeks for me, but it’s nothing that I’m not already used to. Fourth year of doing this, you’d hope I’d be used to it by now.
