Tonight’s post is early because I’m about to run Kara in WoW, and I have no idea how long it’s going to take or what my free time is going to be like once we actually start. Most likely I won’t be done until after midnight, so rather than risk missing my post, it’s coming now. Aside from my Wanted review, it’s really not a very interesting post.
Wanted is pure awesomeness though. It reminded me a lot of The Matrix as I was watching it, and that’s definitely a good comparison to be making. All of my friends who have seen it agree that it’s a really good movie also, and it might just be a movie that I need to get in Blu-ray to fully grasp its awesomeness. Hey, as long as I have a PS3, I might as well make use of all its features! My score: 9/10.

I did some needed work on my SE project, but I also spent a great portion of the afternoon playing WoW. Yep, I think it’s safe to say that my addiction is back. What will be interesting is to see if it can survive a 3 day break for when we go to Arkansas next weekend. I mean sure, I guess I could take it on my laptop with me, but that might just border on being slightly obsessive. Just slightly.
Tomorrow my only plans are to go see Wanted, so there will likely be some more WoWing (and ok, working on school work) that takes place also. Wednesday is currently an open day for me, but I may go in to work with Mr. McDonald some then. The plan has existed for me to work more during the summer once I got back from Japan, but we’ve yet to actually convert that into an extended schedule for me.

Ever since I’ve gotten back from Japan, I’ve never been able to play WoW for more than 20-30 minutes at a time. Every time I start to play it, I just get bored really quickly and want to go do something else. On one hand, this has happened before, so I’m not too concerned that going to Japan somehow made me hate WoW. On the other, there’s quite a bit that I could be doing with all of my characters, so it’s surprising that I don’t want to do any of it.
The news of the day was that the end of the Blizzard ice splash image culminated in the announcement of Diablo 3. While this wasn’t as big of an announcement personally as Starcraft 2 was, I’ll still buy it once it comes out. Actually, I still have yet to beat Diablo 2 (or the original Starcraft) for that matter. Sure, they screw around with my resolutions when I try to play either, but they’re both games that I should be able to claim that I’ve beaten if I consider myself a true PC gamer. Oh well, yet more stuff to do this summer…

I still harbor some resentment towards Sony for the absolute and complete arrogance they had going for a little while, especially before the PS3 launched. That said, with the purchase of my PS3 today and playing around with some of its features, I really have to give them credit for making this a nice experience. I’ve heard that it hasn’t always been like this and that the recent store update was probably a big factor in my happiness, but since I didn’t have any previous experience/knowledge, I have to give it high marks. The XMB interface that was brought over from the PSP I have to say I really like, and it is a very stark contrast to how busy and cluttered the 360 dashboard and blades appear.
I don’t have a movie excursion planned for tomorrow, so I’ll probably (or should anyway) spend the day working on my SE project and Japanese paper. Due to my absence for two weeks from SE, I’m doing the project by myself rather than in a group like everyone else. Granted, I told the teacher before I left that I felt I could do the project on my own, so rather than trying to work me into an existing group, he let me stay by myself. While this means I can work at my own pace and ultimately am the only person responsible for my grade, it also means that I have to do all the work. Considering I’ve almost always enjoyed working alone more than in a group, my guess is that I’ll enjoy this project much more than I otherwise would.

I beat God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP today, so that gives me the green light to start on GOW2 most likely this weekend. Actually, GOW2 came out before the PSP entry, but Chains of Olympus was designed as a prequel, so I decided to play through it in the correct order of the story, not the release order. Up next on my PSP is Secret Agent Clank, and then I’ll start on Crisis Core. I figure Secret Agent Clank is the shorter of the two, so it’d be better to play through it first.
I really, really plan on getting a PS3 tomorrow, but I guess it’s not a guaranteed thing. I’d really like to be able to play MGS4 this weekend, but I still have to make myself bite the bullet on spending close to $600 just so that (at the moment) I can play two exclusive games. Sure, there’s stuff in the pipeline I’m looking forward to, but without a rumored price drop in the near future, I fear that waiting for the 80 GB to hit $400 might mean waiting almost until the next generation of consoles are out. That is an unacceptable time frame.

I got invited this afternoon to go see an advance screening of Wall-E at Northpark, and since I was free, I am now able to claim that I’ve seen two movies before their release. Wall-E is the newest Pixar movie, and I have to say that it has made the best first impression on me of any of their movies since The Incredibles. Since I tend to like the movies more after I think about them some, this is all but guaranteed to be a DVD purchase. My score: 9/10.
My meeting at HP today got moved to tomorrow, so that’s what I’ll be doing at 10:00 rather than sleeping (or probably by then starting to wake up). Friday and Saturday are still open, however, so they’ll either be days of boredom, days of rest, or days of busyness that has (obviously) yet to be planned. I’m aiming for the second since that seems to be the one that leaves me in the best state of mind.

In the few days since I’ve been home, my dad has already had two tech casualities that he has required my help to fix, and the latter of these was semi-serious (he locked his phone so he couldn’t make/receive any calls from it). The fixes were very easy to discover (the first I just had to look at the device to see what was wrong; the second was a quick Google search away from a CS phone number). Seriously, if I went off to Japan forever and never came home, either all the tech in my house would just cease working or my parents would have to pay an overpriced “repairman” to come fix everything for them.
The test today actually fell somewhere in the range of “good”, a welcome surprise for not having been to the class in almost 3 weeks. Sure, having it be open book/note helped, but the questions were more “produce something using this template” rather than fact regurgitation (so the book was mainly used as the source for said templates). Probably not a 100, but I should be able to cope.

Hmmm… that movie definitely wasn’t what I was expecting. I absolutely love Raiders of the Lost Ark, but I’ve seen the 2nd and 3rd ones maybe once or twice in their entirety ever. Ok, so Raiders was the first one and series change over time, but dang, I just really wasn’t expecting this movie to be like it was. It wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t venture into “good” territory either. Maybe it’s less of a jarring transition for fans of all three previous movies, but I think Raiders will stay atop my personal favorite list. My score: 7/10.
In other news, I have a test tomorrow (as if you didn’t already know), and I think I’m fairly close to beating Chains of Olympus on the PSP. Most likely either tomorrow or Wednesday will be my day of weakness when I go spend $500 on a PS3, but hopefully MGS4 and Tools of Destruction will be worth it because if they aren’t, I basically will have bought a $500 unneeded (at the moment) Blu-Ray player.

If I could pull off every day being 38 hours, I might just be able to get everything done that I need to on a consistent basis. Alas, today was only 24 hours, so I can’t quite bend time to that extent yet. Don’t worry though, it’s on my todo list…
Aside from starting to look over some of the stuff for my test on Tuesday, my day today ranked very low in importance. Tomorrow I’m going to see Indiana Jones (finally), so expect a review of that tomorrow night. There are still a ton of other movies on my list to go see, so hopefully those can just methodically be worked through over the coming weeks. One nice thing about waiting a little while to go see movies is the fact that the theaters are much less crowded when you do go. Granted, the screens aren’t as big, but they still fall into that category of “big enough”.

I woke up “this morning” in Japan, it was Saturday. I got on my flight to DFW, it was Saturday. I fell asleep on the plane, it was Saturday. I landed in DFW, it was Saturday. Right now, it’s still Saturday. If you ignore the time zone changes that I flew through and just stick with the easy math, Saturday, June 21st has lasted about 38 hours for me. I think it’s safe to say that today has been one of the longest days of my life.
I’m actually about to go to sleep (which is a very good thing) since I only got about 3 or so hours of sleep on the plane, so I’m already pretty tired. Remember that my body is expecting it to be 1:30 tomorrow afternoon right now, so had I gotten a longer sleep on the plane, I’d be awake until who knows when tomorrow morning. Fortunately this gives me all the time I need tomorrow afternoon (and Monday) to start catching up on my SE work.
