Tomorrow would actually be a perfectly fine day if it wasn’t for the fact that the one class I have to go to UTD for tomorrow also has a test which covers way too much material. The class being criticized, Linear Algebra, is not one of my favorites, I see no real reason why it’s on my degree plan (it’s not a prereq for any other course on my degree plan), and the way the course is set up, every class is just a continual “stream of consciousness” of information with random breaks thrown in for the sections to be included on a quiz or a test. I mean, we have all of two weeks of school left. Don’t you think a text maybe 2 weeks or so ago might have made a little more sense? If nothing else, it would be easier to review the material that is going to be included.
Tomorrow’s game is just at Pearce, so when I heard that the bus was supposedly going to be leaving at 4:00, I was instantly skeptical. Turns out that by using my awesome trainer investigation skills (which this time manifested in the form of sending a text message to a player), the bus isn’t leaving until “5:30 at the latest”, so I get to show up at HP about an hour later than I was originally going to. As it turns out, our Linear Algebra teacher doesn’t seem to care too much for the fact that our class is only 50 minutes long, so he makes his tests insanely long and then allows us to seemingly stay as long as we want to work on them. I doubt I’ll be taking all that extra time I now have to work on the test, but considering I didn’t quite finish the first one in the 50 minute class I took it in, a little extra time can’t hurt.

I spent colse to two hours playing WoW this afternoon, and one of the things that I enjoyed was the fact that even though I haven’t played it in almost two months and there has been a major patch in that timeframe, it still feels and plays like the same game. I picked up right where I left off, looked at my quest log, and started questing as if I had just reached that point yesterday. Man, if I could only put parts of my real life on hold for a couple months and then pick them back up right where they left off. Talk about a stress decreaser!
I’ve priced out my computer upgrade for the summer, and I can get a quad-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, an Nvidia 9000-series video card, and a 22″ widescreen monitor all for right at $1000. I’ll most likely reuse the parts that I’ll be removing from my current build to place in a new file server that will contain more than just 400 GB of storage. I’m thinking maybe 4 500 GB drives set up in RAID 5 would be nice for that, but only if I can convince my parents to pay for it. The only other things I’d really need to buy would be a case and PSU, so I might be able to do something along those lines for fairly cheap.

Currently HP is in a safe third place in our district which is good enough to make the playoffs. We went into tonight with a 6-3 record, behind Poteet’s 9-0 and Forney’s 8-1 (the teams that have given us our three losses this year) and ahead of two teams tied at 4-5. We won 14-1, so regardless of what else might have happened tonight we’re still definitely in third, but we’re also firmly in control of our own destiny at the moment. Our remaining district games are at Pearce at, Forney, home vs. Greenville, and then finally at West Mesquite.
I intend on fully finishing my OS project tonight before I go to sleep, but I’m also extremely close to being done (I think). The only thing left that I really need to do if the output to show that my code is working, and then make it so that more than one input list can be processed. Fortunately I have nothing else big due (or to do) tomorrow, so if I must stay up a little later than usual, my body should be able to cope.

We…have…a combat engine!!! Yes, I was finally able to overcome my numerous Flash deficiencies and produce a functional, dynamic combat engine that isn’t solely a scripted encounter. Sure, there’s no AI going on for the enemy, but that’s an easy remedy once the AI gets done. This is a milestone that I should have been at at Half-Alpha, but with the rescoped project, this can now be used as a basis to build our tech demos that we will be showing off. Huge sigh of relief for this, but now I get to temporarily turn my attention to my OS project due in 2 days.
There’s a 80% chance of storms tomorrow, 50% on Wednesday, and 70% on Thursday. By running this through my weather analyzer, I predict that tomorrow’s game has a significant chance of getting delayed. If it does, it might be delayed for quite a while. So, although my current plans are that I will be having a baseball game tomorrow, don’t be too overly surprised if my post tomorrow night reflects a different reality.

I went in for about 4 and a half hours this afternoon to help Mr. McDonald once again, but he was there long before I arrived and was going to be there for at least a couple more hours after I left. Before you go accusing me of abandoning him, I did have some homework that I needed to get done this weekend, so it wasn’t like I was coming back to my house to play WoW or anything. In fact, I haven’t even been on WoW since Thursday night. So much for that plan.
I’ve written over 200 lines of code for the game project so far this evening, and I’ll probably write another 50-100 before I go to sleep just so that I can finish everything up tomorrow without too much of a headache at the last minute. Everything seems to be falling into place nicely now that I’m solely focusing on a 1v1 PvE for the time being. I am taking into consideration the fact that this will be turning into a PvP engine in the near future, so some of my design choices are reflecting that. Just because I may not loathe Flash at the moment though doesn’t mean that I want to become best friends with it now.

I woke up about 8:45 this morning (actually, 7:45 originally, but that was my mom’s fault), left my house at about 9:10, and didn’t get back to my house until almost 11:00. Not impressed? Sorry, that’d be 11:00 PM. For that entire gigantic amount of time in between, I was working with Mr. McDonald and (mainly) creating images of various models of computers. Surprisingly, it didn’t really feel like I was gone for almost 14 hours, which I guess is a very good thing. I get to go back and do more work tomorrow afternoon, but I shouldn’t be there quite as long (or even as late) since we got most of the work done today.
Tonight, tomorrow evening, and Monday my big focuses are my OS project and the game project. My goal is to have a workable combat engine running on the phone by class Tuesday, and I think that I’m very close to achieving that goal. Not necessarily a full engine that can support 3v3 PvE and PvP, but at least a 1v1 PvE and PvP should be doable. Getting that under my belt will be a big milestone and will really allow us to begin to being everything together so that we have a final product to show off at the end of the semester.

Holy crap, that was one of the longest HP games I’ve ever been at. The first couple innings almost took two hours, and the whole game clocked in at right around three. To make matters worse, we lost to Poteet again this season, so that keeps them undefeated in district. A longer game might be more fun is the outcome was different, but that doesn’t change the fact that it was insanely long.
Tomorrow morning I’ll be going to work with Mr. McDonald on doing the server migration, and I’ll probably end up spending most of the day doing that. Last year it happened on weekdays and I was there until 10:00 or so one night; I don’t plan on that being the case tomorrow, but I could definitely see 5:00-6:00 being realistic. The more that gets done tomorrow, the less there is to do on Sunday if I go to help out then (which is completely dependent on what I view my homework situation being).

Hmmm, think anyone noticed my mistake? Nah, probably not. I guess that means that I could get away with it and not have to tell anyone, but then I’d leave everyone who didn’t notice in the dark and wondering what my mistake could have been! Fine, my mistake was that my post yesterday forgot to have the minorly important component of a title present. All better now though, so don’t call me a liar and say that it does.
I did log back into WoW but did very little while I was playing. My main accomplishment was just patching and bringing all of my addons up to date, but I did complete a quest that I was in the middle of doing before I stopped playing a couple months ago. No WoW tomorrow, and very likely no WoW for most of this weekend since my free time will very smartly be spent on the game project and my OS project which is now reapproaching its due date.

The weather gods have apparently now teamed up with the allergy gods to make my life even more miserable, and for whatever reason, the Sudafed doesn’t seem to be quite as effective as it has been in the past. Maybe the rain we’re supposed to get tomorrow will help clear some of the pollen out of the air. Then, as long as it stays gone through Friday, maybe I’ll actually be able to enjoy the baseball game at Poteet.
Now that I have very little homework/projects to worry about, tomorrow night I’ll very likely log into WoW for the first time in almost two months. The last time I played was on February 7th, but it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. Fortunately I haven’t been kicked from my guild for inactivity, so when I do log back in, there will hopefully be some green text conversations I can engage in.

I can now say that this is 100% official: I will not be staying on the UTD campus in an apartment next year! My current roommate joined a fraternity this semester, so he’s going to get an apartment with one of his friends from that for next year, and seeing as how I didn’t feel like trying to find someone else to share an apartment with (since getting a single bedroom would be an insane waste of money), my parents and I discussed the possibility of me staying at home next year. They were both fine with it, so I submitted the form saying that I would not be renewing at the end of last week, and tonight was the absolute deadline on when those forms had to be turned in.
The baseball game that I believed to be at HP tonight got moved to Terrell, and due to me forgetting to remove my phone from silent mode, I discovered this only about 40 minutes before the bus was supposed to leave. I made it there in plenty of time, but this meant that I was unable to re-drug myself with Sudafed to control my allergies which I’ve been having for the past day or two. This translated into me being moderately miserable for most of the evening with a stopped up nose. Now that I’m back at my apartment I took some in order to let me go to sleep tonight, but it still hasn’t fully kicked in yet. I’ll take these allergies over any others that I could have though.
