Who Thinks I’m a Spam Target?

March 17th, 2008 @ 10:29 PM

Every time I go to the WordPress dashboard to make a new post here, there’s a counter that says the number of spam comments that have been caught. Over the past few days, I’ve noticed this number steadily rising. Now, granted, since I moved to WordPress almost 2 years ago it’s only caught about 200 spam comments, but I just cleared 8 out of the queue after having cleaned it late last week also. You’d think that bots would want to spend their time trying to target more high-profile sites than mine, but I guess to them a spam comment is a spam comment, no matter the blog. (Bonus points if you get the reference!)

I haven’t made as much progress as I wanted/should have made over the past 24 hours, so this’ll probably shape up to be an interesting couple of weeks for me. I think everything will start to come to be better once I just better understand the conceptual model of making Flash programs since the way I’d be building it in Java/C# just doesn’t fit the Flash model that well. The backend can (and most likely will) be hacked together, so as long as the game appears to work, everything should be fine. By fine, I mean that I get an A in the class.
