Progress, Sweet (But Slow) Progress

November 10th, 2007

One assignment (Data Structures HW) done for Monday, the other hopefully close to done after I meet with my group tomorrow around 1:00. My Tuesday assignment (Programming Languages HW) I have probably about half done and will hopefully finish it up tomorrow also. Everything after that gets worked on once this first stuff is out of the way. I have no football on Thursday night, but I’m planning on going to see the Classic Series production at HP that night, so it’s still not all that available for me to do homework.

There are only nine days of classes left before exams start, and I’ll actually be bringing home my computer a week from Wednesday. If UTD would have a normal Thanksgiving break schedule, it’d be a week from Tuesday, but hey, we don’t have to go to school on Saturday!!

Our Last Game at Home? Apparently Not…

November 9th, 2007

HP, 7-0 in district, 10-0 on the season, won tonight (obviously) 38-20 over West Mesquite. This marks the end of our regular season as we move into playoffs, and since we have a smallish stadium, it usually means the end of home games. Not this year though apparently. Next week we play Frisco in the Bi-District round on Friday night, and it’s going to be at Highlander Stadium. We beat them once at home earlier in the year, so there’s no reason to believe that we can’t do it again.

Tomorrow I’ll be working with my group in Technical Communication some assuming that I hear back from them on where we’re actually planning on meeting. We have a presentation to give on Monday that we basically have to create this weekend, so meeting up isn’t really an optional thing. Then a week from Monday we have to create a 15 page document that goes along with our presentation to turn in, so we’ll probably be working next weekend also. I guess having the playoff game on Friday night is going to end up being useful.  :)

And Highland Park Will Go….

November 8th, 2007

Division 2.

For the first time since I’ve been a varsity football trainer, HP will not be D1 in the playoffs. The reason I know this is because the Pearce-Poteet game was tonight, and Pearce, who is a larger school than us, won. That gives them the third playoff spot from our district and sends us and West Mesquite to D2.

Aside from me going to Berry Field at Berry Middle School on Bear Drive today for the last JV game, but day was extremely uneventful. I didn’t have my Plano school stuff in the morning since I’ve completed all of my hours for that, nothing big was discussed in either of my classes today, and I was alone over at my grandparents house before the game for a longer time than they were there.

The Streak Has Reached 200

November 7th, 2007

That’s correct, ladies and gentlemen, I have catapulted past a continuous posting streak of half a year (182-183 posts) to the great, awesome number of 200!!!

I’m not really sure if I ever envisioned this when starting The Daily Goob many, many Mays ago. Yeah, I know I called it “daily”, but really, who thought that I’d really stick to that? Neither did I apparently as I noted the fact that I wasn’t posting daily less than a week after I started posting. Dedication, commitment, and a couple lucky scheduling breaks is apparently all it takes. It took me over three years to do this? For shame!!!

I say we set the next milestone at April 22, 2008.  If I can pull that off, I’ll have made 365 posts in 365 days. Vegas, spring break, and maybe a football game or two is all that should stand in my way of the next 165 posts. Let’s do it.

Tomorrow is the Big Day

November 6th, 2007

I’m doing everything I can to make sure that I don’t forget the special event happening tomorrow including talking about it now and most likely starting the post as a draft as soon as I post this one. No hints or clues ahead of time, so you’ll just have to come back tomorrow. In other news though…

I’ve gained a 7th item in my week and a half of insanity, another Programming Languages assignment most likely due the same Tuesday that my Digital Logic project is. I’m almost positive that I’ll have one last Data Structures homework, but my guess is that it will be due the Monday after Thanksgiving right before exams start. I’m not going anywhere for Thanksgiving most likely, so that can be pushed off until after I have a chance to regain my sanity.

I’m tempted to hold off on playing WoW for about a week for two reasons: first, I really should be working on my numerous assignments rather than playing it, and second, Patch 2.3 supposedly hits next Tuesday which is supposed to dramatically increase the speed of leveling from 20-60 (where all of my characters either are or are about to be). Not playing it works for me though since I’ll have Zack & Wiki and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (came out today, picking it up tomorrow) to entertain myself with.

All Registered Up

November 5th, 2007

I’m now officially registered for 16 hours next semester encompassing 5 courses and 1 “lab” (Linear Algebra Problem Section). So far my schedule has stayed the same as what I originally planned, and hopefully it’s going to stay that way. Since UTD has me classified as a senior, I was able to register online this morning for all of my classes except for one. That lone exception I took care of early this afternoon, and now I just have to worry about my week and a half of craziness starting next Monday.

I am quite aware that I have not made a vlog post in a while, and I’ll be honest in saying that the next one probably won’t come before December. This idea hasn’t worked out too well so far, but I’m not ready to write it off as a failure yet. With some tweaking to fix the sound issue, I still see it as being a viable method for making posts on occasion.

Daylight Couldn’t Be Saved on a Better Day

November 4th, 2007

After Friday I definitely needed to catch up on my sleep this weekend, so the “fall back” weekend of DST came at just the right time. I’ve always found it amusing how the DST change I tend to like less (summer is over, gets darker sooner outside) is the one that gives the bonus hour of sleep. I actually started this post as a draft last night and wrote a note in it to remind myself to change WordPress’ time zone setting to reflect the change so that my posts wouldn’t be off by an hour (like they have been in the past for up to a week after the fact).

GameFAQs has been having their Character Battle over the past couple months, and just mere minutes ago, the winner was crowned to be… *drumroll* … L-Block?? Yep, certain people staged an upset of the final that included Link, Cloud, and Snake to have a block from Tetris win the whole thing. Now there’s a final battle including L-Block, Paddle (from Pong), Weighted Companion Cube (from Portal), and ? Block (from Mario). Nothing like a good inanimate object battle.

I have no homework due this next week, but in the last week and a half before Thanksgiving, I have 6 things due. In order to be able to sleep that week, I do plan on working on (and hopefully finishing) at least a couple of those things this week. My Data Structures homework due next Monday, Programming Languages homework due next Tuesday, and Digital Logic project due on the 20th are the most likely candidates for being worked on this week. Hey, at least I’ll be rested to start working on them!!

Our Fate Isn’t Sealed Yet

November 3rd, 2007

Apparently everything comes down to two big matchups next week. HP and West Mesquite will be playing for the district championship which is nice but really has no effect on anything else. The bigger news is that Pearce lost last night, so if they lose next week against Poteet, they won’t make the playoffs, and we would therefore go D1. We won last night 59-21, so West Mesquite is the only team that stands between us and three undefeated regular seasons in a row. Beyond that is out of our hands though.

I got Spiderman 3 on DVD this week and just finished watching that. Looking back at my post history it appears that on the day I went to go see it my computer decided to break, so my last-minute short post touched only on the latter. Spiderman 3 isn’t necessarily a long movie (just over 2 hours), but some of the filler content they put in there to make it that length makes the movie feel longer and more boring in the non-action sequences. Definitely not my favorite of the trilogy, but still a decent movie. My score: 7/10.

6:50 is Too Early to Wake Up

November 2nd, 2007

Ok, I’ll go ahead and make my post now, a mere 8 hours after my previous post, but it’ll just save me a little bit of trouble later on in the day. Really, what was this post going to contain. “Yeah, I’m up at HP, and I’ve done everything for my assignment.” Oh yeah, that’s interesting.

One thing that I originally wasn’t planning on was the interaction observation part of the assignment. I was just going to go with one of my friends to the cafeteria and to it there, but I found out that today is the black light pep rally. Hmmmm…. generic cafeteria observations, HP black light pep rally observations. Not a hard guess as to what the more entertaining choice (and the one I’m doing) is.  :)

Is It Still a Long Weekend?

November 1st, 2007

Tomorrow is when I spend virtually the entire day either up at HP or doing stuff related to HP Football, so I’m hesitant to claim that I have a “long weekend” when tomorrow is going to end up being just as busy if not busier than any normal school day for me. I’m leaving here at 7:20 tomorrow morning and likely won’t get back until close to midnight. I’ll probably work in a post from somewhere up at HP tomorrow during the day.

I started Zack & Wiki today, and the game is just as great as the reviews are saying it is. There are a couple instances where the game tries to be funny but falls a little short, but those are usually worth at least a grin. If I used a guide it would probably just be a weekend game, but that really defeats the whole point of a puzzle game, so I might be working on it for the next few weeks.
