Early posts mean I’m not sure I’ll be around a computer again before midnight. In the case of tonight it’s because I’m going to be playing games with Robert and some of his friends. In the past these games have had a tendency to go a little long, so I’m just making sure I stay on the safe side. After all, better safe than sorry!!
No plans as far as tomorrow goes have changed as of now. Still need to be at HP at 3:00, the game is still at 7:30. Realize, the game result post will not come until Sunday, so you’ll either just have to be patient or go look up the score yourself before then. Or come to the game, but that’s just too easy.

Coach Gibbins left me a message on my cell phone today saying that we need to be up at HP around 3:00 on Saturday. This means about a 2:40 departure from my house for a 7:30 game which will probably last until 9:30 or 10:00, and if all goes well I might get back to my house around 11:00 or 11:30. The conclusion from this time analysis? Afternoon post on Saturday!!
Even with all that going on, I still get a full two days of weekend time because of Labor Day. Surprisingly enough, I still have no plans for Monday, and I honestly wouldn’t be that surprised if I don’t make any. Free time is how I basically run my life; if it’s free to begin with, I can typically schedule things on demand. If I have lots of stuff planned and more stuff comes up, then I have to play a scheduling and prioritizing game that to me just isn’t all that fun.

The entire title of this post stems from the fact that I’m going to sleep at 11, the time I used to go to sleep my freshman year. Ever since then it’s slowly drifted back and back to the present time of midnight, but I refuse to let it drift any more. Part of why I’m going to sleep earlier than normal is because I’m bored, another part is that I actually am tired. Nothing wrong with getting in all my beauty sleep, especially when I get the feeling that I’m going to have a long and tiring Saturday.
That sentence would normally have been one that I would have used to end a post, but then this post would have only been one paragraph long. I tend to try to avoid that since it makes it look like I didn’t try hard enough to make a “real” post (an exception being when I’m squeezing one in right before midnight). So, without further post lengthening mindless text, au revoir.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption came out today for the Wii, but I intend on finishing (or at the very least, getting to the final boss fight) on Echoes first before I start playing it. It has been getting awesome scores, just like Bioshock did last week, and is being considered the best Wii game to date. Ironically, I hope it won’t hold that title for long as Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl come out before the end of the year.
While I guess they don’t really qualify as “big” assignments, I do actually have homework now that I must decide how long I want to procrastinate before doing it. Unlike many of my classes in the past, I think all 5 of my classes actually have graded homework rather than just the type that gets assigned for practice. One way makes sure you get it done, the other allows for a nice “review” before an upcoming test, but both ultimately have the effect of (hopefully) strengthening your knowledge of the material and in turn generating better grades. At least, that’s how I usually like it to work.

I probably spent close to two straight hours playing Bioshock this afternoon in which I had to kill 5 Big Daddies so that I could get to the Little Sisters (if this makes no sense to you, go read some reviews of the game). This first time through I’m going ahead and saving them, but if I play it through again, I may see what it’s like to harvest them instead.
Odds are that with WoW down for maintenance tomorrow morning, that will mean yet more Bioshock playing time for me. I really have no idea how long the game is, but my guess is that it’ll take me probably a couple of weeks or so to beat at this rate, especially since I can’t play on the weekends. After that I’ll probably move back over to C&C3 so that I can be ready for its expansion once it gets released.

As far as this week goes, I don’t think that there should be anything too difficult about it. Currently there are no big assignments that I’m aware of, next weekend is a 3 day weekend, and I have Bioshock with which to entertain myself when I’m out at UTD. This can last as long as it wants to, and I promise that I’ll keep the complaints to a minimum.
One thing that I’d like to get solved soon but I’m not really sure how to do it is making all of the other tuner cards in our HTPC become useful. Doing this is going to involve rewiring stuff out in our garage, so for now I have it kind of rigged up how I ultimately want it to be, but it still can’t do any HD tuning.

With the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption happening this next week, I figured it might be a good time to go ahead and start on the second part of this trilogy, Echoes. No, I never beat the final boss on the first one, but that’s just one of those games where I tried multiple times, always failed, and if I waited until I actually beat that boss, I might never play the other ones. So, while I may go back in the future sometime and try to beat it then, for now it is but a past memory.
I would have liked to play some Bioshock today, but I think I can manage until Monday afternoon. I still have WoW, GW, and numerous other games on my shelf which I can play to keep me entertained, but all the while I’m going to know what I could be playing…

Ah, once again time for totally busy Friday evenings. Amazingly enough, that’s a good thing because it means I’ll be working HP Football. Tonight was the pre-season scrimmage against Plano West, and next week is our first game (which actually is on Saturday) at Texas Stadium rather than the usual location of SMU. My schedule is less than optimal for any Thursday games I might be asked to work, but those will just have to be dealt with on an individual basis.
I know I said that I was planning on getting a Nokia N800 with some of the money from my internship, but now that I plan on getting a Neo1973, I can basically do most of what a N800 would do (plus even more, make phone calls) without needing to spend the extra money. I guess I’ll get the Neo1973, see how much I like it, and wait until I’ve made that verdict to decide whether or not I’ll jump for an N800. Hey, I’m sure I could find something else to drop a couple hundred on.

System Shock 3, I mean, Bioshock is hands down one of the best FPS type games I’ve ever played, outranking HL2, Halo (no big surprise there), and Doom 3. People can (and I’m sure will continue to) complain about the widescreen issues and slightly intrusive DRM all they want, but this game is an absolute keeper and deserves to win numerous awards. It’ll have to fight with Halo 3, Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, and Smash Bros. Brawl for GotY awards, but I definitely think it has a fighting chance. On the PC I’d go as far to say it’s a given; the console race will probably be closer.
Surprisingly, the worst part about this weekend is that I’m going to be home and not be able to play Bioshock. Sure, I could take my computer home or even do the unthinkable and be out here for part of the weekend. Chances are I’ll do neither and play some WoW, GW, or another one of my multitude of games that need to be played.

Rarely ever have I had one of my main in use computers not be able to run a program that I tried to put on it. Well, whatever streak I had going on that came to an end today. The Shuttle at my house which I use as my desktop when my “real” computer is out at UTD completely choked on Bioshock. Even with virtually everything turned down and/or off, the mouse movement was so jittery that it would have been unplayable. So, I’ll apparently have to be getting my fix of that on this computer. I can’t really say that this is unexpected since that was just about a $700 computer two years ago with very little upgrading and a low end video card from two generations ago. It was bound to fail on something sooner or later.
So then I bring the disc out here and install Bioshock on this computer, and there’s a recommended driver upgrade to do. Worked fine on my other computer, so I had no reservations doing it on this one. Before the download even started, IE crashed. I opened up Firefox, went back to the driver page, and successfully downloaded it this time. The fun wasn’t over yet though; in the process of installing the drivers, something errored leaving me with a 640*480 desktop. I restarted and all was well, and then I opened up the game to test. Smooth as silk. Not sure if I’ll be playing it tonight, but most definitely tomorrow morning.
