Brandon, his girlfriend Crystal, and his mom all came over this afternoon for, what Crystal called, a pool party. Going with that definition, this would make it the first pool party that I’ve ever had. When we lived in HP I had no pool with which to have a pool party, and I don’t recall having one in the last year either.
With all the storms we’ve been having recently, a myriad of quick power outages have occurred over the past few weeks. This has resulted in one of my favorite purchases being my UPS for my computer since even though I lose my internet connection, I don’t lose whatever it is that I have open on my computer at the time. In fact, one just happened while I was writing this post. It only lasted about a second, but without my UPS, I would have had to reboot my computer. Both monitors and my tower are plugged into it though, so aside from a little icon saying I had lost my network connection, nothing big happened.

Microsoft’s E3 press conference is going on right now, but I won’t be staying up to watch a stream or read a live blogging transcription of it. Too tired, I want to go to sleep, and then tomorrow night Brandon is coming up here with his mom and girlfriend for dinner and to hang out for a little while. All this means that I need my beauty sleep lest I be at below optimal energy level tomorrow evening. Sure, I could just wake up later for my internship, but that wouldn’t be any fun (and it means I’d have to stay later for the same amount of hours/money)!
As the big E3 announcements hit the internet, there is one that I really do care about and another that doesn’t affect me at all. The important one is that the 360 is finally moving to its 65nm chips which is supposed to solve the heating issues, and that coupled along with the rumored (I guess I’ll know tomorrow when I read the transcripts of the ongoing conference) price drop means I’ll likely get a 360 before too much longer. The price drop that isn’t a rumor though is the PS3, but all Sony is doing is dropping down the 60 GB version to $500 and introing a 80 GB version at the $600 price point. Still no killer games out for it for me, and I still refuse to pay anymore than $400, so no PS3 in my immediate future. Just to round things out, I don’t think anyone is expecting Nintendo to make any huge announcements regarding the Wii or DS, but that’s fine with me. I’ll still get a Wii whenever I can manage to find one, and with more games on the horizon, the pressure is slowly increasing on me to locate one. Ironcially, I’ll have better hours to find one once I start school again as my mornings will be entirely free.

Today at my internship for pretty much the entire day only positive stuff happened. A lot of work got done (including one big issue that is central to the entire project), so that put all of us in a good mood. Don’t be fooled by this seemingly content attitude though. I still didn’t enjoy it that much, but I “not enjoyed” it less than almost any other day so far.
My afternoon was dominated by going to visit a friend down in HP in order to get something from him which he will in turn be coming up to my house to get back on Wednesday. As of right now that’s the extent of my plans until Saturday when I (as mentioned before) plan on going to see the new Harry Potter movie. I have no reason to think it won;t be good, but it’ll be interesting to see just how the longest book (currently) translates into movie format.

Well, I discovered an interesting “bug” with our new HTPC tonight with regards to playing back recorded shows, so I get to troubleshoot that this next week. It would haven been nice for everything to just work like it should out of the box, but I guess that’s just too much to expect, especially with computers. It can really make you wonder why so many smart people love to agonize over machines that are supposed to be smarter than them yet seem to have issues working properly.
Tomorrow is Monday, and that means more internship! Feel the excitement dripping off of me as I say those words. The part I love most about it though is the fact that as of Tuesday, I only have a month of it left. Usually I’m ready for summer to be over because I’m bored and want school to occupy my mind; this year I want summer to be over just so I can be done with this.

Ratatouille wasn’t the best Pixar movie I’ve seen (and considering either Monsters Inc. or The Incredibles takes that spot, I don’t agree with quite a few of the critics saying it was better than The Incredibles either), but that said, it was entertaining and probably a purchase once it comes out on DVD. I remember this happening with Cars also, but with Pixar movies I often don’t get “sold” on them until near the end. I haven’t seen one that I didn’t like (and I’ve bought all of them since Monsters Inc.), but if you only took the first half of the movie, there would probably be a couple I’d pass on. My score: 8.5/10.
As I said yesterday, next week will be the new Harry Potter movie, and then after that I’ll probably re-read Half-Blood Prince before the 7th (and last) book comes out two weeks from today. When HBP came out, I finished the entire book in I think just over a 24 hour period but, that was without an internship that inconveniently interrupts my reading flow on Monday (yes, the book comes out on Saturday, but I won’t actually get a chance to read it until Sunday since my grandmother will be purchasing on Saturday and reading it then). I’m not above saying in advance that I won’t be coming in Monday just so I can read the book; if I do, I bet I wouldn’t be the only person in the country.

More experience plus a much more friendly layout (at random, but quite hard to be less) made the computer build today go relatively painless. It was still tedious, but that’s to be expected. The couple of snags I hit weren’t anything major, and instruction manuals solved all of the problems I encountered. I’m not sure that I’m ready to say my new desktop next summer will be a custom build when the Dell XPS is there as an option, but this experience didn’t make me any more negative towards building computers from scratch.
My parents went to go see Live Free and Die Hard tonight and claim that it’s a movie I’d love. As true as that may or may not be, it doesn’t affect my plans for tomorrow which is to go see Ratatouille. Next week will be Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and if I go to see Ocean’s Thirteen this weekend sometime with my parents, the only movie I’ll be behind on is Shrek the Third. That may just be a direct DVD purchase without ever seeing it before. I’ve done that on a couple movies and generally don’t regret it. The two that come to mind are Galaxyquest (one of my favorite movies period) and Treasure Planet (good, reminds me a lot of Titan A.E.).

Today’s Thursday, but yesterday was a day off, so that means it had to be a weekend. Therefore today is Monday. But wait, tomorrow is Friday. Maybe the upcoming real weekend is what I need to get my mind back on track. It needs all the help it can get sometimes.
Tomorrow afternoon will most likely be spent building the computer whose parts are supposed to arrive tomorrow, installing Windows and the software, then getting everything hooked up as necessary. I think as far as cabling goes I’m good for now, but once I get the additional tuners to install, we’re probably going to need a couple more cables and splitters. By the end of this weekend and the inevitable troubleshooting, my mind might just be ready for Monday to come. Not exactly a pleasant distraction, but a distraction nonetheless.

Ok, so we didn’t go see Shrek the Third today. In fact, that was never the plan. The movie we actually went to go see today was Evan Almighty. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t awesome either. In my book, it falls pretty squarely into the category of average movie. Entertaining to sit through once, maybe worth a DVD rental, but that’s about it. My score: 6/10.
I actually don’t think I played any games today; all my time was spent either at the movie, watching TV, or on the internet. Tomorrow afternoon I have a presentation to give at my internship, and all the parts for the HTPC should be arriving on Friday. Can you say, weekend project?

I’m looking at the little white tab right now, and it’s on “Write Post”. I’m definitely going to be more conscious of that from now on, especially when I’m editing a page at the same time. All should be good though, and if not, I guess I’ve found a bug.
Tomorrow would be the 4th of July which means no internship!!! Instead, I’ll be going to see Shrek the Third (finally) and then just resting and playing games for the remainder of the day. Not a bad plan at all for a holiday. Now if only more days could be like tomorrow…

I’m looking at my Facebook profile this afternoon and notice that my post from yesterday hasn’t showed up in my Mini-Feed yet. “That’s odd…” I think to myself. I visit the main page of this blog and… *gulp* …no post? But, but, but… I made one! I did!! …Didn’t I? I know I thought about making one, but maybe I never got around to it..
As you can see, I did make a post yesterday. I quickly solved the missing post dilemma by going into my Manage tab and finding that I made it as a “page” rather than a “post”. I moved it over, backdated it to the correct time, and deleted the page. No, this doesn’t count as cheating or breaking my streak because I really did write all that yesterday, it just unfortunately got put in the wrong place.
