A Rare Afternoon Post

May 11th, 2007

Why am I making a post in the afternoon? Well, it’s because I won’t be at my computer tonight. If you look back at last night’s post, I didn’t mention anything about the baseball game yesterday. That’s because there wasn’t one. Rain once again messed around with the schedule, so that moved the games to today and tomorrow. Since we have to play at least one tomorrow and it would start at 11:00, the team is spending the night in Tyler. Yes, that includes me, and yes, I knew about this last night but chose not to write about it then. If I did, what else would I have had to type about now?

I Didn’t Do Anything

May 10th, 2007

My computer is working, so I’m not really going to complain about it, but I didn’t do anything special so that it should be. There is one weird glitch that I can’t solve which is that it will freeze if I try to do to the Microsoft Update site, but Automatic Updates runs just fine, so there’s not a pressing need for me to go there. No more weird random lockups, reboots, or taking forever to log in like was happening yesterday, so I’m writing it off as being (generally) fixed and restoring my computer back to its working state. That’s lots and lots of programs to reinstall, people.

I was going to do a reformat this summer anyway, so this was as good of a time as any. I love how fast everything seems to run after a fresh install but not to the point where I’d want to do it every couple of months. Granted, with three HDs backing stuff up is extremely easy, but tracking down all the programs to reinstall and tweaking everything to my liking just takes time. Time that could be spent playing games.

Broken

May 9th, 2007

Quick post so that I don’t break my streak, but my main computer decided to break this morning. It’s currently undergoing troubleshooting, so my laptop is seeing some use. Fortunately, I have other desktops I can use if necessary, but I’d prefer to get it fixed before that becomes necessary. At least this happened over the summer and not during school.

Productive Progress, But Not Where Needed

May 8th, 2007

I finally got the file server set up the way I want (both physically in our garage and how it works on our network). While nice, it wasn’t where I really should have been devoting my time. I’m not as far as I should be with the site, but part of that can also be attributed to my complete unfamiliarity with how Zen Cart works. It’s possible that I can break the site and achieve what I want since it doesn’t have to function in the sense of a store that will be continually updated, so we’ll see how that goes.

Tomorrow, Spiderman 3. Thursday, Friday, and possibly Saturday: baseball games in Tyler. Sunday I then actually get to rest for once, and then it’s just a week until my supposed internship starts. For some reason, this doesn’t really feel all that much like summer is supposed to.

A Premier Plan (If It Works)

May 7th, 2007

I believe (yes, slightly sad that I don’t know) my current posting streak is 20. Currently, I’m at 15 (16 with this post). By my math, that means I only need to post now through Saturday in order to hit 21 and set a new record. Then, if I keep posting through the 15th, I’ll be on my longest posting streak ever as the anniversary of this blog occurs. Granted, this assumes I actually get to post Thursday and Friday with away baseball games in Tyler, but as long as I do, it should be a pretty smooth ride.

I’m sure Zen Cart is a nice, powerful piece of software if you know how to use it correctly, but trying to customize a site on it using a template that needs tweaking outside of the configuration options if driving me insane. I’ve set up a VM on my computer so I can play around with it locally, but there won’t be any lost love when I finally get to be done with this project. Free time would be nice, but at least baseball allows me to “relax” (and, yes, be entertained also generally).

Done a Day Early

May 6th, 2007

Well, apparently there won’t be a third day of baseball for me this weekend because UTD lost the first game today 0-1 to Texas Lutheran and then got beat by McMurry in a 4-14 run rule loss. So, no games until next weekend for me. I might have a little extra free time on my hands, but you won’t hear me complaining about that.

In just nine days, the big secret will be revealed about what I have planned for this blog’s 3rd anniversary. No hints (yet), no previews, and definitely no coercing the plan out of me using nefarious means. You’ll just have to wait until then to find out!

Any Way That They Come

May 5th, 2007

Well, I’m not sure that you could really have two more polar opposite games today yet have the outcomes both be favorable. At HP, we dominated Frisco and won by run rule after 6 innings (10-0). Then, at UTD, it was a game very reminiscent of yesterday, especially at the end when the other team scored in the last inning to send it into “EI” (extra innings for those of you not on on your baseball lingo). Today it only took one inning though to pull out the win, and UTD plays their second game at 12:00 tomorrow.

My parents and I watched Night at the Museum tonight (rental, I didn’t buy this one), and it was just as entertaining as I remembered. My main reason for not buying this one is that I couldn’t really see myself wanting to watch it over and over again. That’s actually a pretty bad gauge for my DVD purchasing habit, but we won’t get into that right now. Depending on how my schedule falls, sometime before the end of the month I have three movies to go see: Spiderman 3 (came out yesterday), Shrek the Third (comes out in 2 weeks), and the third Pirates movie (comes out in 3 weeks).

Not Going To Be a Psychic Either

May 4th, 2007

Intense, intense game tonight. The last playoff game I had that went into extra innings didn’t turn out so well for HP, so I was understandably hesitant when this one did. The top of the 8th was 3 quick outs on our part, and in the bottom we had our backs against the wall with a full count and bases loaded. I made the comment that I didn’t see this game ending all that well for us, but we managed to get out of the inning unharmed. In the 9th, we then scored 2 runs which was enough to give us the 7-5 victory. So, there we go; no villainy or psychic professions for me. Tomorrow’s game at HP has been pushed back to 1:30, but I was going to be late to UTD anyway, so 30 minutes isn’t going to be a huge deal.

The One Thing I Can Never Escape

May 3rd, 2007

Granted, this is probably completely my fault, but looking back I’m not really sure if I would have caught it or not. I go up to HP this afternoon, find Coach Gibbins, and then learn that the game has been cancelled. Story of my life. The new schedule is that HP plays tomorrow at Frisco at 7:30, Saturday at HP at 1:00, and a third game immediately following if necessary. Well, this poses come additional complications with my UTD schedule, and I’d only be able to make the one game tomorrow most likely. I had the great idea to actually call Mr. Gardner while I was still at HP, and all of UTD’s games have been delayed by a day also. So, that means that there is no UTD game tomorrow, and their first game is at 3:00 on Saturday. This gives me time to be at HP for the first game on Saturday, and then I can go to UTD. I wasn’t going to be able to make the 3rd HP game anyway under the non-modified schedule, so everything just kinda balances out.

The Mavs only have one quarter left before losing their game and being upset in the series 4-2. They’re down by almost 20 points, and call me pessimistic, but I just don’t see them pulling a miracle out of their bag in this game. Seeing as how everyone was expecting a return to the Finals, it’s going to be really weird to have them out the first round.

Apparently I Can’t Be a Super Villain

May 2nd, 2007

Meet the Robinsons was a good movie, but not one I fell in love with. One thing, however, I did find slightly humorous. (Note: spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it and think you actually might.) The roommate of the main character is called “Goob” (nickname from his last name even), and due to a certain event in the movie, he grows up to be the villain. Well, when the main character calls him Goob once he discovers this, the response is something along the lines of: “You can’t be a super villain with a name like Goob!” So, there we go; I can’t ever be a super villain unless I come up with a new nickname for myself.

Lots and lots and lots and lots of rain tonight, so hopefully that’s doesn’t mess around with the baseball schedule which right now is organized quite nicely for me. If stuff does start to get moved around, I’ll have to start checking times and everything to see which games I’ll be able to make and which ones have conflicts.
