Only Exams Left

April 19th, 2007

Since I don’t count the time the game class will meet next week as a “class” (it’s during the exam time slot, so not my fault we’re not having an exam), I only have exams left for the remainder of the semester. My history one today went fairly well (just took forever and my hand hurt from all the writing), and I feel confident about the Discrete Math one I have tomorrow. The only problems that could rise there are convoluted graphs and/or drawing diagrams out too fast, so as long as I take my time I think I should be fine.

Both of my exams next week I think will be more difficult than the two I have this week, but that’s partially because they’re both math involved (no, Discrete Math doesn’t actually involve any math, at least not for this test). Saturday and Sunday I’ll probably focus solely on studying for Accounting (my Monday exam, open-note but not open-book) and then Monday night I’ll study for Probability (my Tuesday exam, both open-note and open-book). Just 5 days until it’s over!!

No Post, No Excuse

April 18th, 2007

Yeah, I thought about posting yesterday, but once again I got sidetracked and didn’t realize I hadn’t until it was 12:01. This whole policy of 1 post/day (and typically always at night) can really pose some problems. After this post, though, I’m finishing up my exam review for my test tomorrow and then going to sleep. I’m tired.

As I just said, tomorrow is my first exam, but otherwise my day is normal. Friday I have an exam and then 2 baseball games (UTD and HP), and then on Saturday I have another 2 baseball games (both UTD). Sunday night is the UTD banquet, Monday is an exam, Tuesday is an exam and a baseball game (HP), so I don’t get a day off until next Wednesday! That’s a week from today!! Ah yes, but I have no more school until August. Just keep telling myself that: 3 months of summer, 3 months of summer…

Who Needs a Countdown?

April 16th, 2007

In 20 minutes, I’ll be done with school in a week. One week. Seven days. Done with school for more than 3 months. I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t need a countdown timer telling me how many days of school are left with something like that being the light at the end of the tunnel.

As if I needed more stuff to add to my “Stuff Jeff would like to learn but knows he doesn’t have the time” list, I think CSS has made it onto there. I learned web design just early enough that I was taught using tables rather than CSS, so both designing new sites and modifying premade templates is slightly difficult. This joins a multitude of other languages/programs including C/C++, Python, Ruby, Lua, and Photoshop (just to name a few), so we’ll see how productive I can be over the summer. My guess: not very.

Twice in Under 48 Hours

April 15th, 2007

So tonight I watched She’s The Man again with my mom since there was nothing better on TV on a Sunday night (and I haven’t acquired any new DVDs from Amazon recently). I enjoyed it just as much the second time, and she found it entertaining also. Not sure I’ll watch it again any time imminently soon, but maybe sometime this summer. :)

I only have 2 actual class times left for each of my classes before their respective exam (with the exceptions of history which is only 1 and my game class which doesn’t have an exam). I probably should have done some of my exam review for history today, but it’s not really that hard (the review or the exam). I’ll do some of it tomorrow morning and then probably finish up the rest tomorrow night (or Tuesday morning, depending on how much WoW I want to play).

The Weather Still Missed the Memo

April 14th, 2007

Why, why, why is it this cold in April? For the second weekend in a row, I’ve had baseball games in extremely uncomfortable weather because the weather gods find it amusing to make it in the 40s in April. Not cool, weather gods. Not cool at all. Well, actually, it is cool, and that’s the problem. It’s too cool…cold even.

This post is coming earlier than usual because I’ll probably be asleep within an hour. I stayed up last night until about 2:30 watching She’s The Man (had never seen it, and it’s a pretty enjoyable movie), and then my mom woke me up this morning around 9:30 (but not before I woke up due to the phone earlier at 8:00-ish) . Short version, I’m tired and want to go to sleep.

Hope You Wanted to Watch the Weather

April 13th, 2007

Big storms this evening meant that all the network stations felt the need to cover it instead of, you know, actually showing the shows that they were scheduled to. Fortunately, Numb3rs was a repeat, and that’s the only show I really pay attention to on Fridays. Still, it made finding something to watch slightly difficult. I finally settled on a mixture of National Treasure, Big Fat Liar, and the Stars playoff game.

It All Begins in a Week

April 12th, 2007

One week from today: my first exam (History). Two weeks from today: I’ll be on my second day of vacation. Yes, I only have 12 days of school left, and while I have no burning desire for it to be over, I don’t really want it to last forever either. This weekend I’ll start worrying about reviewing for my Thursday and Friday (Discrete Math) exams, and then next weekend I’ll focus on Accounting and Probability.

I meant to have a working version of a support ticket site I’m writing done by tomorrow (I know what you’re thinking, how many sites am I involved with? Quite a few…), but that’s probably not happening. I’ll do some more work on it tonight right after I take my shower, but considering my lack of overall skill with PHP, the coding won’t go all that fast. No worries though, since the site isn’t really a time critical thing to get up and running.

Procrastination Can Take a Break

April 11th, 2007

In two weeks now, I won’t have to worry about (not) procrastinating for a good 3+ months. Well, maybe that’s not entirely true with what I’ll be doing over the summer, but it’s a close enough generalization. Hmmm…and posting here. Maybe I won’t be as procrastinating free as I thought.

I’m in the midst of redesigning (again) the website for my friend’s clothing line, and hopefully I’ll be done with it tomorrow as to not have to worry about it over the weekend. This is really more just general tweaking than a full redesign, but I am looking forward to when I don;t have to constantly keep changing the site around for them.

A Once in a Blog Event

April 10th, 2007

*Cue drumroll* … This is post #400 to The Daily Goob! The sad part is, this should be post 401, because post 400 should have been yesterday. I even thought about it at 11:20 or so, but the next time it enetered my mind was 12:01. Too late to make a blog post (and have it be written yesterday). Stupid clock…

I also found out yesterday via an email that I’m done with school two days earlier than I thought I was. This means my last day of school is actually two weeks from today, not from Thursday. Starting next Thursday I have: class and 1 exam (Thursday), 1 exam and a baseball game(Friday), 1 exam at 2:30 (Monday), and 1 exam at 11:00 (Tuesday). Yeah, that schedule works for me.

So Easy, It’s Hard…or Not

April 8th, 2007

The past week I’ve spent a great deal of time researching how to go about hooking up one of our old computers to our HDTV. As I mentioned in my Friday post, this is partially to accomplish getting Tivo-like functionality upstairs but also to play back media stored on a server that will be living out in our garage (my parents didn’t seem to like it in the places I stashed it in the house). I did all my research, found out things about resolutions and timings, and downloaded all the programs I needed. I take the computer in next to the TV, hook it up, and…it worked. It defaulted to a widescreen resolution, so all I needed to do was bump it up a little and then bring in the corners of the desktop to fix the overscan issue, and everything was done. No problems, no hassle, and video plays back fine (haven’t tried the TV tuner yet though). I can’t decide whether to be happy that it was so easy or ticked off that I did all that research for nothing.

In related news, I think I’ve found a good software package that will allow me to accomplish the goal of streaming live TV down to my dad’s study without having to do some crazy tweaking. Of course, we need to get an ethernet jack in the room where the HTPC is going to live, but that’ll probably come this summer. For now, progress has been made, and the future is bright.
