All Books Are Not Written Equal
In a continuing theme from yesterday’s post, I went looking online for some C++ books that I figured might be a good idea to purchase. I found a FAQ that listed some and searched for them on Amazon. While I found all of them, they were generally in the $40-50 range. Not horrible, but not exactly cheap either. So, I thought of going to Half Price Books in order to look for them. HPB doesn’t have any kind of search feature on it’s website (something that I figure really can’t be that hard to implement, but they must have their reasons), so I decided I’d go by there today.
Interrupting the flow of this story, however, was a HP Baseball game at West Mesquite. Not knowing what time the bus was going to leave, I got up to HP around 12:30. Well, the bus was leaving at 2:50, so I killed an hour doing stuff (cleaning) in Ms. McDonald’s lab. The bus we had was one of those short party buses, so I sat up front with the driver and every other seat was occupied either by equipment or people. As for the game itself, you can either claim that we won by run rule or because time expired, but the result was 15-0. Once we got back to HP, I went to go eat dinner at El Fenix, and then headed onto HPB.
Resuming the story, when I got to HPB, I headed over to the computer section and started looking at all the programming books. I didn’t have a printout or the ISBN numbers with me, but I had seen the covers of each of the books onilne, so I figured that I would be able to recognize them. Well, either HPB didn’t have them or my memory isn’t as good as I thought, so I decided to not pick up any books. What I’ll probably end up doing is either just buying them from Amazon or the Amazon Marketplace, but I started a wish list to keep track of all the ones I think that I want.
UTD won their game today according to the UTD website, so hopefully I’ll just have a single game at 11:00 tomorrow morning. After that, I’m probably going to run by Blockbuster to see if they have Night at the Museum in stock to rent for my parents and me to watch tomorrow night, and then Sunday morning I’m going to have my mom wake me up pretty early so I can to try and find a Wii somewhere. I still refuse to camp out overnight just to get one, but I’m not against begin there almost as soon as the store opens in order to improve my chances. I have the games, I have the accessories, so all that’s left is the console itself.
