Everything Must Go Perfect

April 30th, 2007

The Mavs lost, so they’re down 3-1 in their series. Game 5 is tomorrow night and is a must-win situation for them. I discovered the HP Baseball schedule for this week, and it starts with an away game Thursday night at 7:30. Friday I have UTD’s first game at 3:00, and HP then plays at home at 7:30 (meaning I can make both). If everything works perfectly, HP will win both of these games and take the series, meaning no game Saturday (or they lose both and get eliminated, but I like to think optimistically). If not, their Game 3 is on Saturday in Allen at 1:00 which is bound to conflict with at least 1 UTD game on Saturday. In that case, I have to make the decision which game I’ll go to. Sunday there are UTD games only, so that’s not an issue.

Can’t Wait Until the End

April 29th, 2007

The Mavs are playing their 4th game of the series right now, but it’s unlikely to be over before the clock hits midnight, so I have to make this post now, unsure of the outcome. If they lose, they’ll go down 3-1 in the series; if they win, it’ll be tied at 2-2. Losing this series would be a huge upset since the Mavs are seeded 1st and the Warriors are 8th.

If there was anything I was supposed to do this weekend, I forgot about it. Granted, I don’t think there was, so I’m not too worried. This next week is pretty relaxed at start off, but at the end I’ll have way too many baseball games for my own good with both UTD and HP playoffs going on. I can hope for a nice schedule that lets me attend all the games for both teams, but UTD is in a tournament, so I won’t have a good idea until the day before or so.

One Game Joy

April 28th, 2007

UTD won the first game today (barely, 9-7), so we were all extremely happy that there was not a second game that had to be played this afternoon. As for the rest of my day, it really didn’t involve much more than playing WoW and watching a movie (The Holiday, still surprisingly enjoyable given that it’s a romantic comedy). Tomorrow I’m going over to one of my dad’s friend’s house to work on their wireless network which I made work once before, but I don’t remember all the security settings and passwords, so that could get interesting.

As much as I want one, I’m going to pass on waking up early tomorrow to try and get a Wii. Yes, I could be at Target before 8:00 and try to get one as soon as the store opens, but I still don’t really want one that much (well, I do, but there aren’t any current games out that I have the burning need to play). Nintendo claims that they should be drastically increasing production by next month, so hopefully they won’t continue to be hard to find for too much longer.

All Books Are Not Written Equal

April 27th, 2007

In a continuing theme from yesterday’s post, I went looking online for some C++ books that I figured might be a good idea to purchase. I found a FAQ that listed some and searched for them on Amazon. While I found all of them, they were generally in the $40-50 range. Not horrible, but not exactly cheap either. So, I thought of going to Half Price Books in order to look for them. HPB doesn’t have any kind of search feature on it’s website (something that I figure really can’t be that hard to implement, but they must have their reasons), so I decided I’d go by there today.

Interrupting the flow of this story, however, was a HP Baseball game at West Mesquite. Not knowing what time the bus was going to leave, I got up to HP around 12:30. Well, the bus was leaving at 2:50, so I killed an hour doing stuff (cleaning) in Ms. McDonald’s lab. The bus we had was one of those short party buses, so I sat up front with the driver and every other seat was occupied either by equipment or people. As for the game itself, you can either claim that we won by run rule or because time expired, but the result was 15-0. Once we got back to HP, I went to go eat dinner at El Fenix, and then headed onto HPB.

Resuming the story, when I got to HPB, I headed over to the computer section and started looking at all the programming books. I didn’t have a printout or the ISBN numbers with me, but I had seen the covers of each of the books onilne, so I figured that I would be able to recognize them. Well, either HPB didn’t have them or my memory isn’t as good as I thought, so I decided to not pick up any books. What I’ll probably end up doing is either just buying them from Amazon or the Amazon Marketplace, but I started a wish list to keep track of all the ones I think that I want.

UTD won their game today according to the UTD website, so hopefully I’ll just have a single game at 11:00 tomorrow morning. After that, I’m probably going to run by Blockbuster to see if they have Night at the Museum in stock to rent for my parents and me to watch tomorrow night, and then Sunday morning I’m going to have my mom wake me up pretty early so I can to try and find a Wii somewhere. I still refuse to camp out overnight just to get one, but I’m not against begin there almost as soon as the store opens in order to improve my chances. I have the games, I have the accessories, so all that’s left is the console itself.

Now I’m Really Done

April 26th, 2007

I guess I can now officially claim that I’m done with school since I had my last class tonight. I didn’t do anything except just sit there for about 2 hours, but I’m done now, and I can move onto more important things in my life. Baseball playoffs. Video games. The evil internship that id causing me way more problems than I would have expected. You know, stuff like that.

With all the languages I say that I “want” to learn, the one that I probably need to learn the most is C++. I thought I at least had a basic grasp on it from my CS1 class at HP, but in trying to help out my two friends this past semester that were taking C++, I deduced that what I learned was more of a “C using C++”. I’ll probably pick up a couple books and read through them because especially if I want to go into the game industry, C++ is by far still the dominant language there.

The Guilded Age

April 25th, 2007

Earlier today I was talking about guilds with the husband of my ex-chemistry teacher, then when I’m playing WoW I get this random (but very polite) tell asking if I’d like to join “a small guild that places no demands on its members”. Considering I joined my original FFXI guild by random invite (the rest have all been a result of mergers and splits from the same core group of people), I figured there was no harm. The character list looked pretty evenly spread with about half the members under 40, so we’ll see if I end up enjoying it (or if I even realize that I’m in a guild most of the time).

I made an Amazon purchase today related to the 3rd year anniversary of this blog. An Amazon purchase, you ask? Yep, and you’ll have to wait another 20 days to figure out why. :)

I’ll Go Legal…Eventually

April 24th, 2007

Over the past couple of days, I’ve thought about actually purchasing software I would have otherwise obtained in a different fashion. This includes Adobe Web Premium CS3 which through an academic license I could get for $500. Yeah, that’s a lot, but better than the $1600 retail price. Now, I probably won’t buy it, at least in the immediate future, but just the fact that I’m even considering doing so is a very ideological shift for me. Don’t worry though, I won’t be dropping big bills on everything under the sun any time soon.

The baseball game got cancelled today because of the weather, so it’s tentatively been rescheduled for tomorrow if Greenville can get their field ready by then. If not, we might try to get them to come to HP to play, or maybe it’ll be pushed back to Thursday. Whatever happens, the game has to be played (and soon, playoffs start next week).

I’ve also decided what I plan on doing for the 3rd anniversary of this blog. Just three weeks for you to find out what it is! (And for me to get it ready for that matter.)

Good Enough for Me

April 23rd, 2007

I wouldn’t say my Accounting exam today went perfect, but I’d be stunned if I didn’t end up with an A in there. On the last problem, I could either get to $2000 over or $2000 under what the answer was supposed to be, so either I kept missing something or the teacher made a typo in the question. Either are valid possibilities, but since I never make mistakes, the fault has to lie with her. *snicker*

Less than 12 hours away is my last exam, Probability. I did the 2 last homeworks tonight (I thought there was only 1 but found another when I went to go check the answers for the first) while watching the Stars lose, and tomorrow morning I’ll do the practice exam before heading to UTD to do the real thing. Once again, I’m not extremely worried about this exam, but I do have a higher than perfect average on the line to maintain.

Purposefully Postless

April 22nd, 2007

Yesterday I opened up a post window and thought to myself “Ehhh…I’ll make one a little later.” So I waited for a little while. Later, I thought about making a post and then thought, “Ehhh…I’ll go take a shower first.” So I went to go take a shower. After I get out I thought about making a post and then thought, “Ehhh…I’ll just skip a post tonight.” So I skipped a post last night.

I haven’t quite finished all my HW/reviewing for my exam tomorrow, but I’ll do that between a combination of tonight and tomorrow morning (my exam isn’t until 2:30). It’s open-note, and since I haven’t had too many problems with the HW for the oldest stuff that will be on the exam, I feel pretty comfortable.

Now This is Baseball Weather

April 20th, 2007

Two baseball games today (both wins), two more tomorrow, and the best part about it is…the weather!! Yes, it appears that the weather has finally realized that it’s April, and it is super comfortable outside. It’s supposed to be windy tomorrow? Who cares! It’s going to be in the 80s. Let me repeat that again, in the 80s. Trust me, no complaints at all from this trainer.

I brought my computer home today, and I’m already really, really liking this dual monitor setup I have going on. I discovered a way to be able to play WoW on one and then just be able to move my mouse off the side of the screen and onto the other monitor if I need to chat, open up a website, etc. This may spoil me, so there might just be a 3rd LCD purchased at the end of the summer if I can’t give this setup up.
