Retrying the Impossible

March 14th, 2007

Since I went home this afternoon and no computer at my house currently has WoW installed, I had to find another way to entertain myself. In my boredom, I turned to FFXII, a game in which I was “stuck” at one boss for a while (only because I didn’t have an item I needed, and it was a 30 minute trip to go get it), and then promptly became stuck at another. Needless to say, I wasn’t all that happy with it, so I haven’t played it any recently. I just barely beat the boss I was stuck at and then watch a 10-15 minute cutscene after which I made sure to save so I wouldn’t have to worry about beating that boss again. I didn’t make too much progress after that, but it’s starting a new section of the story, so I shouldn’t run into any more insanely difficult parts for a while.

One of the reasons I think I was having such a hard problem is that my characters are most likely underequipped for the point in the game I’m at. That would be because unlike the other FF games that I’ve played, this one doesn’t throw money at you; in fact, it does the opposite. I haven’t been able to buy all the spells, weapons, and armor I want mainly because the game hasn’t given me enough money to do so. Maybe that’s part of how they’re controlling the game’s difficulty, but I could use a little more gil regardless.

Not Easy Enough to be Worried

March 13th, 2007

I have an evil track record of thinking that a test is very easy (especially math related ones) and then getting a bad grade on it. Today I didn’t think the test was difficult or hard, but I also didn’t breeze through it. This is good, as it probably means I got a good grade. If we hadn’t been able to use our notes, though, I would have been screwed.

My WoW addiction continues as I spent a good 3 hours on it today and managed to gain 2 levels. I’ll probably spend more time playing it tomorrow and Thursday, but for the weekend I’d have to install it on the computer at my house (which takes sooo much longer than it should) if I want to play. On Friday I have a UTD baseball game, and I have also just been informed that there is apparently an Edgeworks/Heretic gathering Friday night. My weekend is already starting to get busy, and it’s not even Wednesday yet!!

Homework Productivity Increases Without a Computer

March 12th, 2007

Even though I don’t have any actual data to compare it to, I’m pretty sure that I got more homework done this afternoon than I would have if my computer had been out here. Now, I still didn’t get all my homework done, but that’s still fine. I’m going to finish up what I need to for my test tomorrow before I go to sleep tonight, then tomorrow morning I’ll just review for it. It may not look like it sometimes, but I have this homework schedule thing down.

I changed my Facebook picture for the first time today since I started my account and put up a scan out of the baseball program. In sticking with the HP Baseball theme, I used a picture that the photographer took of me at the tournament this past weekend (I think it was from the Friday game, unfortunately the one we lost). If I had more pictures of me on my computer, I’d probably update/change it more, but I don’t, so I don’t.

Why Does It Have to End So Soon?

March 11th, 2007

All that homework I was supposed to do today?? Yeah…..it so didn’t get done. It doesn’t really matter, though, as none of it is due (as in ever), and I’ll be computer-less for about 3 hours tomorrow in which I can just focus on getting it done. For the record, I did shun it in favor of WoW as I knew I would. Predicting the future, or just knowing myself that well — you choose.

I didn’t really have a list of goals for anything I wanted to accomplish this week, but if I did, I bet I wouldn’t have completed them. This is one of the more recent Spring Breaks that I can remember having significantly less free time than normal, but all I really did extra was go up to the office on Monday and Wednesday. Less than two months until my 3+ month summer, but a lot of that gets taken up by the internship, so it’s not like I’ll have a lot of free time there either. Oh well, nothing didn’t get done that really needed to be, and I guess that’s all that matters. And thus, the Spring Break of Goob ends.

Luckily Just Enough

March 10th, 2007

Well, that was an exciting end to the day. We watched Grapevine just barely beat Keller in the game right before our first one (which was good for us seeing as how Keller beat us yesterday) and then went on to win ours 5-3. All except one run came in the first inning of that game, so it was pretty uneventful overall. Then for our second game, the first 4 innings went completely scoreless. In the bottom of the 5th we finally managed 2 runs, but Grapevine immediately responded with two of their own in the 6th. The game went into extra innings, and in the top of the 8th it looked like they were about to score. Fortunately they didn’t, and we got a run in the bottom of the 8th to win 3-2. That game was intense…like, playoff intense. Everyone really, really wanted to win, and it ended my baseball week on a high note.

Tonight I have to finish designing a website for a friend, and then tomorrow afternoon is all homework and studyin. Actually, I say that but everyone knows I’ll probably fit in a few breaks of WoW. Hey, as long as the work gets done, it doesn’t really matter what I say I’ll do.

A Loss is a Win (For Me)

March 9th, 2007

Yeah, we lost our game today 7-10, but this didn’t really hurt us in any way for the scope of the tournament. We still play tomorrow, and if we win then we play in the championship game tomorrow night. The nice part is that we play in the second game instead of the first, so I don’t have to be at HP until 10:30 as opposed to 8:00. Then, if we happen to lose that game, our next one would be immediately after instead of me having a 2 hour window and no school to go wander in. Sure, a win today would have been nice, but my schedule sure is a lot nicer tomorrow this way.

Those two games tomorrow constitute the remainder of events until school starts back up, so the rest of my free time will just be spent relaxing and doing homework. I have two tests next week (Tuesday and Wednesday), so I’ll be studying in preparation for those mainly. Yes, tests the week after Spring Break is very, very evil, but unfortunately I don’t get any say in how the syllabus is done. That needs to change…

10 Hours of HP

March 8th, 2007

I got to HP this morning around 11:00 and didn’t leave there until just after 9:00 tonight. I didn’t have to be up there quite that early, and I could have left in between games so I wasn’t needed up there that whole time. I just didn’t see the point in coming home for be here for just a little more than an hour in between games. At least we won both the games today (10-1 and 9-3), so a win tomorrow will make us the top seed in our “division” and make us play in the first game on Saturday.

Yesterday I was just too involved with WoW to even remember about making a blog post, so I decided to make this one before I began playing tonight. I believe that this could definitely qualify as being addicted again, although I appear to go in phases with both MMOs that I play. We’ll just have to wait and see how long this one lasts, but I’d guess no more than a few months.

No Sleeping In

March 6th, 2007

Tomorrow morning I’m going to the dentist in place of my dad because he’s out of town. I had an appointment later in the month, but this way they have a longer period of time to fill it. Unfortunately for me, however, this means I have to get up at 7:45 tomorrow morning. No staying up late or sleeping in for me tomorrow morning.

HP won their baseball game tonight 9-0, and I was up in the press box for the duration working the scoreboard. Coach Jones (who normally does it) was over at soccer, so Coach Gibbins asked me if I would be interested in taking over that for the night. Aside from an umpire who loves to be very ambiguous/delayed in his calls, it was really easy and pretty fun. Hey, me and technology — what else would you really expect?

Rejoining the World (of Warcraft)

March 5th, 2007

Up until now my day has been slightly too busy to really focus on doing anything else, but after this post I plan to take a shower and then reactivate my World of Warcraft account. It’s been over 14 months since I last played, so it’ll be interesting to see how much of a relearning curve I have to go through. Regardless of whether or not my old characters are still there, I plan on creating two new ones to start playing with for the immediate future. I still don’t have any names in mind (although I guess I could just steal ones from my other characters) so I may be resorting to the name generator.

Tomorrow I’m going with my grandparents to eat downtown at Spaghetti Warehouse and then possibly going to see a movie afterwards. If I don’t, then I’ll most likely come back here and play some WoW before heading up to HP around 6:30 for the game tomorrow night. Yes, I know I said all of this yesterday, but I had nothing else to put into a second paragraph and just felt like having a longer post tonight. Anything wrong with that??

Not Nearly as Free

March 4th, 2007

My Spring Break is quickly losing more and more of it’s “break” aura. Tomorrow and probably Wednesday I’ll be going to work with Mr. McDonald, Tuesday I’m eating lunch and maybe going to a movie with my grandparents with an HP game that night (7:30), Thursday I have 2 HP games (2:00 and 7:00), Friday 1 HP game (11:00), and then 1 or 2 games on Saturday depending on the seeding. Yes, a lot of that is optional and stuff I don’t have to do, but the fact still stands that I’m staying busy for most of this week. Who says I just sit around and do nothing??

I installed Windows Home Server on one of my old computers today and got it running (with only a slight network snafu). It doesn’t have the option to perform weekly backups (only daily), so I’m testing it with my laptop first before I set up my dad’s. The last thing I (or he) wants is for him to be traveling and his laptop yelling constantly because it didn;t get to backup for the past 2 or 3 nights. Not a great way to provide a first impression for a piece of software.

My plan is to start World of Warcraft again tomorrow, and I’ve been playing Warcraft 3 this weekend to go through more of the story. I’m starting to understand the setup of WoW better, but there’s still a lot of history and lore that I don’t know. You don’t need to know it in any capacity for the game to be playable or enjoyable, but it’s still nice to have an overview of the series in mind.
