Let the Techie Win

March 31st, 2007

Sony, Sony, Sony…everyone already hates you from the PS3, so why must you make your HDTVs so difficult to deal with? You can’t just be happy letting a computer use the TV as a monitor; people must jump through hoops to make it kinda work, and if they’re not happy with that, they get told about the infamous creek that eats paddles. Sony, I have a message for you: stop trying to annoy the hell out of all your potential consumers.

With that rant over, there actually is some god news that came out of today (amazing, I know). On a $75 gamble I went ahead and bought a new processor to try and fix the problems this computer was having. Turns out it was a good gamble, as the memory tests show that everything is working fine now. I also picked up another video card so I wouldn’t get stuck in an endless cycle of cannibalizing the one out of a not in use computer, and I should be able to play C&C 3 now. In fact, that’s what I’m going to do right now. Kane may be back, but so am I.

So Hard to Make Regular Blog Posts These Days

March 30th, 2007

I have nothing. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Zero. Absolutely no reason why I haven’t posted since Tuesday. I thought about it, but it was either after or right at midnight when I did. Trust me when I say that I don’t want to fall back into my old non-posting ways. I’ve been down that road before, and it’s not a pretty sight.

The migration is finally (generally) over, and while all the glitches aren’t quite worked out yet, everything appears to be moving relatively smoothly. This next week will consist of fixing said glitches, only one of which should really be all that time consuming. Even that’s not really a glitch; we knew it would be an issue but had no way of making it work nicely pre-migration. No more baseball until Thursday of this upcoming week, and while next weekend is Easter, you think I get any days off? Of course not! Less than a month until school gets out though, so you won’t hear any complaining out of me. :)

Thought of and Then Forgotten

March 27th, 2007

Yesterday I go, “Hmmm…I forgot to make a post yesterday [Sunday], didn’t I? I forgot last weekend also…wonder why I have such a hard time remembering.” What happens? I then forget to make a post discussing how I forgot to make a post, so this unforgotten post is about a forgotten post about a forgotten post. Your head hurt yet? Mine did to begin with, so who knows how much worse this made it.

The baseball games got cancelled today, and keeping with trainer tradition, I didn’t find out about it until I got over there. In their defense, however, Mr. Gardner did try to call me — only problem was that he only had my home number. The game has been rescheduled as a single 9-inning one tomorrow at 3:00. That means I’ll (hopefully) be done by 6:00, and I can go continue the saga of the network migration.

Revisiting the Neglected

March 24th, 2007

No WoW at my house means FFXII and Ratchet get some play time this weekend. I’ve still yet to make any “real” progress with FFXII; I’ve been focusing on doing side stuff in an attempt to actually get enough money to buy decent equipment. I’m at a boss fight in Ratchet that I kept dying on the last time I played, so if I can’t make any progress there quickly, I’ll go back to more FF for the night.

I had to dust off my Java skills for a small programming exercise for my probability class, and luckily it didn’t take me that long to finish it. This is due Tuesday, and then I’ll probably do the HW for this upcoming week tomorrow since my free time will be at a premium most of the week. My grandparents (both of them) should be coming down from Arkansas either Thursday or Friday and staying for a couple days, so I’m not sure if next weekend will entail a movie or not.

Premonition was an interesting movie, and it was kind of predictable to a certain extent but still entertaining enough so I wasn’t bored. DVD worthy? Probably not, but I might watch it again once it hits channels like HBO if there’s nothing else on. My score: 6/10.

The Assnading Incident

March 23rd, 2007

Episode 4 of The Heretic got released today, and it just so happens that this was the map that for some reason gave us the most overall problems with filming (with the exception of the devil convoy scene(s)). As such, we got some great blooper footage from it. One of the most…”memorable” was running down a corridor in a line; I was in front, and John was right behind me. We get to the end of the corridor, I turn around, and John lowers his gun. Well, he was very anti-directional pad for some reason, so he used the L-trigger. If you don’t have any grenades, that lowers your weapon. He claims it was an accident, but twice he stuck a plasma grenade on my back right before I turned around (once on the shoulder, the other on the ass which is how we coined the term “assnade”). That will probably last as my best memory of making The Heretic – getting assnaded.

I watched Casino Royale again tonight, and knowing that the 15 minute period after the end of the poker game actually leads to something makes it slightly more bearable. The next movie has recently been confirmed to be a sequel to this one, so that should be interesting to go see when it comes out next year. Guess I’ll need to watch CR again right before it comes out to refresh my memory.  :)

Homework as a Test Review

March 22nd, 2007

As I have probably mentioned before, none of my classes require the homework to actually be turned in for a grade. In Discrete Math, we don’t have any quizzes, and since I generally understand what’s going on, I don’t do the homework right as we cover something. Instead, I wait until right before a test and use the homework problems as a review. It got me a 74/75 on the last test, and I did it again for my test tomorrow, so we’ll see if I can have a repeat performance.

Still no decision on the movie for this weekend (see, I told you that you’d be the first to know once it was decided!), but I’m guessing Phenomenon, regardless of the ratings it got. I also discovered a nice surprise about next week; I don’t have history on Thursday (not sure why, but I don’t), so I get a nice break in between my two classes that day. Granted, it may be spent dealing with the network migration if things aren’t going smoothly, but that’s another story.

One Task at a Time

March 21st, 2007

My day has been just one long string of tasks to do, and tomorrow is going to end up being the same way. I have enough time to get done everything I want/need, but the way my schedule works is that everything has its own slot that can’t really be moved to any time else. Some of it is due to procrastination, but not all of it. Luckily, there’s a weekend coming up in less than 48 hours, so that’ll provide some relaxation time.

One of my new WoW characters has almost outleveled my old one, and I’ve only been playing this one for 2 and a half weeks. I’m not sure whether that says I’m even more addicted now or I just slacked a bunch previously, but I’m going to be in new territory soon that will probably slow down my leveling a bunch.

What in the World Happened?

March 20th, 2007

Apparently, aliens snuck into my brain while I was sleeping Saturday night and erased any and all memories of my blog from my mind because when I just now thought about making a post and went “Did I make a post yesterday?…or the day before?” Well, to answer myself, no and no. The scary part is, I haven’t even been all that busy the last two days!!

My DVD of Casino Royale arrived today, so that will very likely get watched this upcoming weekend. I don’t have any baseball games, so it’s likely that I’ll go to see a movie on Saturday, but I’m not sure which one yet. The leading candidates appear to be either Premonition or The Last Mimzy since Meet the Robinsons doesn’t open until next week. Once its decided, trust me, everyone that reads this blog will be the first to know.

The Tournament of Halo

March 17th, 2007

If we hadn’t moved, I could have walked home last night (I was about half a block away from where we used to live). Stupid parents. Anyway, last night I went to the Halo 2 tournament that Edgeworks (the “company” I worked with to make The Heretic) was hosting for their sponsors. I actually didn’t play since there were 5 of us there but instead just played webmaster and AIM chat host. The short version is that the amount of play time that we put into Halo 2 since we finished filming pretty much rounded to 0, so we got beat relatively bad with only 1 legitimate win out of 11 or so games. As someone said on the forums, maybe we should just stick to making machinima.  :)

The 1 baseball game I had today went insanely fast (9 innings in under 2 hours), so I was home before 3:00. Now, that doesn’t mean that I did anything productive with my afternoon, but at least I was inside rather than outside. I also remembered last night (well, this morning when I got home) that Wordpress doesn’t update automatically for DST, so all my posts last week were stamped as being an hour earlier than I actually wrote them. I made the appropriate changes, but I’ll predict right now that I’m going to forget to change it back once DST ends in November.

Posting Before I Watch

March 15th, 2007

I’m about to watch the pilot episode of Andy Barker, P.I. online, a new show that premiered on NBC tonight. It being a 30-minute show, however, would mean that if I waited until after I watched to post, it would be after midnight. We all know that’s not good, so I’m posting now.

I may be posting, but I really have nothing to say. I found out that tomorrow there are 2 baseball games starting at 1:00 instead of 1 game starting at 2:00, but aside from that, my life is pretty low key. Hmmm…if it could only be like this always.
