That Was Fast

February 5th, 2007

Little did I expect that under 12 hours from making my last post, Time Warner would go through with the integration that I was told wouldn’t happen until later this week (although my question was in context to dual tuner DVRs, so maybe that’s what the date was for). I noticed the switch this morning when I woke up and channels were all moved around, so I just left the TV off until I got home. Well, my mom got home before I did and was massively confused over the switch because no channel was where the guide said it was supposed to be. It took me maybe 30 minutes or so until I got the idea to flip the cables, and doing that solved all of the problems. So, one less thing for me to worry about this week.A t

A test that I was going to have on Friday got pushed back to Wednesday, so that means I have no tests this week but two tests instead next week. Neither one should be overly hard, and at least they’re not on the same day (although I’d have about 3 hours in between to study solely for the second one. Also, 4 weeks from today is my first non-weekend day of Spring Break, the only holiday in between now and the end of the school year (but I get out about a month earlier than HP, so no complaints there).

A “Super” Day for Everything Except Homework

February 4th, 2007

I got (or rather, will by the time I go to sleep) enough homework done this weekend so that I’m not really behind on anything, and that can be attributed to the fact that church and this minor sporting event called the “Super Bowl” captured a great amount of my attention and time. The Indianapolis Colts won the Super Bowl (which was the team I wanted to win), and because one of my roommates last year is from Indiana, he was pretty happy about that also. The end of football season means one less distraction for me on Sundays, but I’m sure it won’t be too hard to replace with something else.

Sometime this next week Time Warner should be completing the integration of the A/B line system that has plagued my existence since we moved here. This should be happening on the 7th or 8th, and once it does I’ll probably be moving the Tivo back out into our den and set it up either to only handle the basic cable channels (without going through the cable box) or invent a way to allow it to control the cable box in addition to allowing the TV to connect to it directly for the HD channels. Again, this is way more complicated than I’d like for it to be, but the ideal solution just hasn’t become available yet.

Not Normal for Very Long

February 3rd, 2007

Less than a week…I knew it wouldn’t be too long before something happened in my life that interrupted the flow of normalness. This one happens to have a story that goes along with it, so I’ll tell that. I would say that you have to promise not to laugh, but I know that regardless you would anyway, so I’ll skip that and just get straight to the story part.

Since probably November or so, every time the heater in our house clicks on there is this rattling sound that occurs up in the attic. Well, it’s extremely noticeable from my room, and back in December or so I went up there to see if I could find out what was making that sound. I thought I did, but it was up too high for me to reach, so the issue just went unresolved. My mom heard it about a week ago and decided she wanted to do something about it, so today we went up there to hopefully put something in between whatever pieces of metal were hitting together. As we were walking around, my foot slipped off of one of the support beams. I think many of you can guess what happened next, but my brain immediately started thinking, “Why is there no floor anymore?” I managed to regain my balance quickly, but not until one of my legs all the way up to my thigh had gone through the ceiling right below where I was standing. The good news is that it happened to be right in the center of my bathroom which is only about an 8×8 room as opposed to 5 feet in any other direction which would have been in one of the much larger surrounding rooms.

If there was any doubt, my life can’t just stay normal for any length of time. We’re taking the opportunity to also get rid of the wallpaper and paint/texture my bathroom, so it’s not all bad. The lesson that everyone can take away from this though is that if you’re designing an attic, be sure not to skimp on the number of support beams you include.

Back to the Sport I Abandoned Twice

February 2nd, 2007

After my one class this morning, I headed over to HP at the request of the trainers there to help out with the Wrestling District Tournament. This is the sport that I started out in my freshman year and dropped at the end of the first two weeks (I’ve never been a great runner, and that was all we did those two weeks), and was “trained” to train at the end of my sophomore year for about 3 weekends until I decided I didn’t want to do that either (waking up at 4:00 in the morning on Saturdays to go sit in a gym for the entire day just didn’t rank high enough on my fun list). It always surprises me a little that after essentially bailing on him twice, Coach Marzuola likes me as much as he appears to.

Since that took up most of my day, I have nothing else to really write about. I haven’t started on any of my homework yet, but I still have 48 hours left for that. Hmmm…I wonder how long it’ll be before that attitude really comes back to bite me.

China on My Mind

February 1st, 2007

We got our first assignment in my game class today which is to research a country’s culture on 8 or 9 specific points, and as the title says, I’m doing China. We were given 5 to choose from, and out of those China was by far my favorite (the others were Korea, Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan). I have a week to research and create a Powerpoint presentation over it, so that will probably be one of my big things this weekend.

Speaking of this weekend, my goal is to get some more FFXII playing time in, but with all the other stuff I should be doing that may or may not happen. I haven’t quite decided on my priorities yet, but between normal homework and the above project being the top two, everything else has to fight for my remaining time. It’d be nice to freeze time, get everything done I needed to, and then just relax the whole weekend. Maybe I should start researching how to do that…
