As Normal As My Life Gets

January 29th, 2007 @ 10:57 PM

My desktop is back out at UTD in working condition, I have no other major computer issues to speak of (no, the Shuttle problem doesn’t count as it is still quite useable), and my life is in a fairly average-paced, normal mode. Considering my desktop storm is just now over, hopefully I have a little respite before the next one. Check back with me in about a month and we’ll see if this holds up.

Vista launches tonight, but I have no intent of getting it immediately. Hopefully over the next couple of months more definitive reports of the Media Center DRM will come out so I can decide if what I want to do is supported or if I’ll need to turn to Linux. I’ve already started researching my alternatives and seem to be focusing in on a couple of specific product lines, so it’ll be nice to have a backup plan in place assuming my Vista one doesn’t pan out. Yes, I lose the Cablecard support, but really, that’s not all that big of an issue since most of what I’d want to record is in the analog range or is the unencrypted HD channels. I wonder what will happen though after the analong cutoff date; I’ll either be stuck controlling a cable box or find some way decrypt all the digital stuff.
