This afternoon I finally got around to buying my new phone, the Nokia 6682. Since Cingular stopped carrying it both in their stores and on their site (stupid Cingular…), I was going to get it from a online dealer that Nokia links to from their site. Well, the issue there was that they couldn’t only extend the contract on my line, it would have to be done for all the lines on our account. I considered getting another phone, but there isn’t yet a really good “replacement” that Cingular carries for the slot that the 6682 filled. I then turned to eBay and was just going to get one there, but someone contacted me on a cell phone forum that I’m a member of and offered to sell me his (almost) new 6682 that he used for a couple of days but couldn’t get used to. Short story (and you’re all wondering why I didn’t just start with this from the beginning), I spent $150 and will have a new cell phone arriving at my house next week, and I get to keep my upgrade from Cingular so I can pick up yet another phone next year at a discounted price if I so wish.
Tomorrow is the first playoff game for HP, and it should be interesting to see how well we do. Apparently McKinney North lost the past two weeks because they’ve been preparing for our game, so everyone is expecting it to be pretty difficult. Depending on whether we win or lose (and if we win, the game day next week), we may or may not go up to my grandparents’ house in Arkansas for Thanksgiving. We used to either go up there or take a vacation somewhere with them every Thanksiving, but for the past 2 years I’ve had football (or at least the possibility of a game which made planning a vacation difficult).

Yes, Monday and last night I thought about not having made a post about 5 minutes after I turned off my computer, and tonight I thought about that, intended on making one, and almost turned my computer off again. But here I am posting, so that last part obviously didn’t happen. Unless I turned my computer back on. But I’m not that obsessive. But I could be. But I’m not.
Now through the end of the weekend should be very interesting for me; I have 2 papers (my last event paper and a 12 page ethics paper) due on Monday, Physics HW due Saturday, a Physics test getting released Sunday (I think), the Wii coming out on Sunday, a football game Friday night, and I want to go see the HP production of The Tempest either tomorrow or Saturday night. I’m not busy at all, so feel free to distract me, bother me with insignificant questions, and do lots of other random stuff over the next couple of days. I’m totally cool with it (until I kill you, that is).

Seeing as how I didn’t make a post Friday (due to the game) or yesterday (due to……aliens?), I definitely wanted to make sure I got in at least one this weekend. We won the game 33-15, so that gives us another 10-0 regular season record and extends our winning streak to 25 games. This upcoming Friday we play once again in Murphy at the stadium where we had our pre-season scrimmage. That game will be against McKinney North, the team that we beat in the second round of the playoffs last year.
One week from today the Wii comes out, and while I don’t have a preorder on one, that may not be a bad thing. Next Sunday I’ll be working on a Physics test and also finishing up a paper for my Politics/Values class, so at least it won’t be there to tempt me. I plan on picking one up ASAP, however. On the other hand, the PS3 comes out on Friday but I have no real desire to get it in the near future primarily because of its price and the fact that there aren’t any must have games coming out for it in the near future. The first game that I see being a draw to the PS3 for me is Metal Gear Solid 4, but that won’t come out for over a year probably. Even then, if the price of the PS3 hasn’t dropped enough, I’ll either just pick up the CE version of the game (like I did with Perfect Dark Zero on the 360) or wait the 16 months for the rerelease of the game (assuming the pattern formed with both 2 and 3 holds).

Tomorrow is Game 10 (i.e. the last one) of the regular season, and it’s against the only other undefeated team in our district, West Mesquite. This means that tomorrow we’ll be playing them for the district championship. Now, what does this mean? Except for keeping our winning streak going and winning the 10-4A trophy, not too much. We’ll still be Division I, and we’ll still play McKinney North next week; similarly, West Mesquite will still make the playoffs and will still be Division II. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely don’t want us to lose, but aside from a winning streak and a (cool, but arguably meaningless) trophy, the game tomorrow doesn’t mean that much.
I finished registering today for all my classes after playing the signature collect-a-thon for the ATEC Independent Study class. I also learned about (and got invited to) a series of presentations/sessions this upcoming Tuesday over the Far Future project with the people from the government. Basically, from 10-5 (with maybe like an hour break in there where I’ll go to part of Physics) I’ll be sitting in on all these different sessions learning the current state of the project and where it’s kinda headed. I think this is going to be my most fun class next semester, and I hope it’s something that continues for a while.

Well, a (rough) version of the new site I was designing for my friend is now online, and as I promised, here’s a link: Worthy Adversary Clothing
Yes, I know it’s not excellent, and I’m completely aware that there are a bunch of “placeholder” things still there, but he wanted the new site to go up, so who am I to argue? Eventually I’ll recode everything in PHP and maybe even put it onto a blog backend (to allow for easier updating on his end). For now, though, this will work just fine.

Three weeks from today is the first day of exams. I haven’t checked to see on exactly what days/times mine are, but I know that in at least one of my classes (Politics/Values), we’re having the exam early and therefore don’t have to show up at the UTD exam time. The last exam day is December 4th, and the first day back is January 8th, so I once again get over a month off. As much as I complain about not getting single days off throughout the year, that definitely makes up for it.
Assuming everything goes as planned, I’ll be ordering my new cell phone this weekend. Either tomorrow or Thursday afternoon I’m going to go by the Nokia Experience Center (not a store) at the Galleria to physically feel it and touch it to be sure that its the one I want, but I think it will be. This is the Nokia 6682 that was on my shopping list for over the summer; I still want the N80, but $500+ for a phone is a little overkill for me. This will be my first new phone in almost 3 years, and hopefully my next upgrade will come with slightly less of a gap in between,

Last weekend I ordered a 500 GB hard drive to put in an old computer to act as a file/backup server at my house. All was supposed to be happy and work. Yeah, well…not quite. Apparently this computer is too old to be able to fully utilize drives over 137 GB, so that meant I then had to buy a controller card to plug the hard drive into. Currently I’m waiting for that to arrive, so until then nothing big can happen (as I don’t want to get the computer set up with only the 25 GB drive in there).
I’ve pretty much taken over complete website duties for my friend’s new company, Worthy Adversary Clothes. The site that someone else had designed them was in Flash, and instead of increasing the actual movie size, in order to make it big enough they just stretched the movie (and not according to its aspect ratio). I should have a “temporary” site up by the end of the week for them, and at that point I’ll link there.

So, I actually read my blog before I logged into make this post, and I saw the top post with a timestamp of 12:13 AM. Huh? November 3, 12:13 AM. First off, that would have been Friday morning, and while I probably wasn’t actually asleep yet, I definitely was in bed and not on the computer. The next post down: November 2, 12:17 AM. Same thing. Well, it took me a couple of seconds to realize that a) this was due to the DST change, and b) WordPress obviously doesn’t handle that transition on it’s own. Timestamps updated, all is well in the world. Let’s continue.
Tomorrow I can register for classes (only because I’m special, otherwise I’d have to wait another week), and seeing as how none of my classes are going to be in high demand by seniors, there’s not any issue I see with me not getting the classes I’ve planned. There are only 2 full weeks of classes left, then the Thanksgiving half-week, then a single day (Monday) of classes, and then final exams. Oh yeah, and then over a month off. That’s the part I love. :)

I forgot to mention this in my post yesterday (and seeing how nothing interesting happened today, it makes for a good post), but I set up my schedule with my advisor yesterday. Basically, I went prepared with 3 different schedules (none of which I absolutely loved) and was going to pick the one that would work best with my prerequisite situation. Anyway, one of the classes I was having a difficult time scheduling it turns out I don’t really need to get done imminently (as it doesn’t unlock anything else), so I now have what appears to be my favorite schedule yet. Instead of describing it in text, here’s a link to my Excel version exported as a webpage: http://dailygoob.com/uploads/s07schedule.htm
That’s right, no Friday classes. One of the original 3 versions was like that, but I had a night math class and then a problem section after that Monday night. I won’t always have 3 full days off because of baseball, but they only have like 4 home weekends, so generally I will.

Oh, hello there! Come looking for a blog update, have you? Well, I finally made one after having thought about it a couple of times over the past few days and forgetting before I went to sleep. I actually had this post title thought up before I went more than a week without a post (originally, it was going to be “To Skip or not to Skip?”), but it fits even better right now.
So, where to begin…Well, last Friday we won against Forney 35-10, one of our smaller margins in recent history, but a victory nonetheless. If we win on Friday against Greenville and West Mesquite wins against whoever they’re playing, we’ll be playing each other next week for the district championship. That really won’t have any effect on our season (except for ending a 24 game winning streak) as we’ve already made the playoffs (and Division I at that). Many people seem to be predicting a difficult playoff run this year for us, but we’ll see how that plays out.
The “skipping” in the title was originally meant to refer to the fact that I basically will probably just need to skip completing some games like Kingdom Hearts and Metroid Prime. I’ve gotten to the finsl boss(es), I’ve attempted to beat them numerous times, but I never can. Rather than endlessly trying, I think it will be a better use of my time to just move onto their respective sequels. Maybe eventually I’ll come back and complete them, but I just have to do something about my backlog.
