Just One Game Away…

May 31st, 2006

…from Austin! We beat McKinney North 13-1 tonight, and therefore only need to win either tomorrow or Friday in Allen to advance to the state semi-finals. I haven’t been explicitly told that I can go to Austin, but I’d be surprised if the coaches said no. Again, maybe I shouldn’t be getting ahead of myself, but it’s getting closer and closer…

I’m finding more an more things about this specific theme that I don’t like all that much (for example, no archive list on the standard homepage), so there will likely be some changes coming to this theme or a completely new one in the next week or so. WordPress overall is nice though, and I don’t really have any regrets switching over from Blogger. As with the gallery there are some more tweaks that I’d like to work on doing, but those can come along with time.

Only One More Month

May 30th, 2006

Today is May 30th (I know, I’m a genius). As of one month from today (that would be June 30th for those of who reading this that might be calendar challenged), we’ll be living in our new house out in Plano. Sad? Sure, a little bit, but that’s not completely unexpected seeing as how we’ve been in this house for the past 15 or so years.

Tomorrow we head back out to the Dr. Pepper/7UP field for our first of a three game series against McKinney North. Apparently Game 2 is going to be in Allen on Thursday, but of course things can change (something I’ve learned happens a bunch, especially when you’re dealing with entities such as HP). Two (or three) games are all that stand in between us and the state semi-finals, but just taking it one game at a time is the best way to go.

I’ve still yet to see X-Men: The Last Stand, but hopefully I’ll go before too long. Can’t go tomorrow or Thursday (for obvious reasons), but maybe Friday (if there’s not a Game 3) or Saturday I’ll get a chance. I’ve heard both positive and negative reviews from friends, and also that I should stay until after the credits are done for a “special” scene. I enjoyed both the first and second, so I predict that this one will be pretty good also.

One Round Closer…

May 25th, 2006

Considering that when we were eliminated from both football and baseball my senior year the other fans chanted “Overrated!”, it pleased me when they started that after a home run on their very first batter up (and Kershaw was pitching), but then we went on a 7 run streak and won the game 8-3. Sorry, Corsicana, but you’re not getting any sympathy from me. This also means that there’s just one more week/round in between us and a trip down to Austin for the state semi-finals and finals. I got burned last year by looking ahead to state, but this is much more within our grasp now.

I tried to set up a photo gallery that would integrate nicely with this blog yesterday but gave up after many hours of not being able to accomplish what I wanted. I wanted to upload all the pictures I took of my current house to someplace besides Flickr (since I just have the free account), so that’ll just happen sometime in the future. Maybe…

Let the List Begin!

May 21st, 2006

Ok, took me one more day than I originally planned, but this morning I finally finished FF9 (both final blow to the last boss and when the insanely long last cutscene ended). Now the question is, with me moving this summer, will I be able to beat at least as many games as I did last year? Well, with me, who really knows…

Completed Games:

  • Final Fantasy IX (PS1) – 5/21

Games in Progress:

  • Final Fantasy VIII (PS1)

Games Are Meant to be Awesome

May 19th, 2006

Remember that whole “posting streak” and “how productive I’m feeling” from my last post? Guess that question has been answered :)

Tonight has to be one of the most impressive HP baseball games I’ve ever been to. We won our series with a 10-0 run rule win tonight, but the awesome part was our pitcher. Kershaw, our star pitcher who’s going to A&M in the fall, hasn’t pitched a single game the three weeks we’ve been in the playoffs up until tonight due to an injury to his side. Well, not only did he have a no run and no hit game (which I believe has happened before), but out of the 5 innings we played before the run rule, Kershaw pitched to the minimum 15 batters and had 15 strikeouts. In one word: Amazing. The next round is against Corsicana I think, and I should know by Monday or Tuesday exactly what the schedule is going to be.

I’ve almost completed Final Fantasy IX and probably will before I go to sleep tonight unless the final string of boss battles is just insanely difficult. This will still make my list start on an earlier calendar date than it did last year, but won’t be as soon after I finished school.

Happy Two Years!!

May 15th, 2006

Should be obvious at the very least that there’s been a visual change to my blog, but I’ve also moved over to a self-hosted solution by Wordpress instead of relying on Blogger. There might be some more visual tweaks in the works as I find other WP templates, but right now I’m happy with this one (not the default, but one of the featured on Wordpress.org). Also, now that I’ve had Calculus for another year, hopefully I can do the random facts with correct computations this time:

  • I made 92 posts in the second year (”One Year Anniversary!!” to “Wrapping up Two Years”), up 2 from the 90 I made the first year (total of 182)
  • Still only one day ever had multiple posts (5/16/04)
  • Longest time without an update was 15 (not 16) days (9/2/04-9/18/04)
  • Longest streak of daily postings was 10 days (5/12/05-5/21/05)
  • HP has still only been eliminated 3 times in the playoffs for the sports I worked/helped with (Football won State, and Baseball is still in the playoffs)
  • Only 5 titles had “…” in them during the second year (down from 13)

It looks like all the posts I imported from Blogger lost their HTML formatting, so I may or may not go back and add the bold/italics back in. Also, WP allows be to categorize posts which all the imported ones (as expected) lack, so those will probably remain “Uncategorized” for the time being. My current posting streak record occured surrounding this time last year, so we’ll see if I’m feeling as productive a year later :)

Wrapping up Two Years

May 14th, 2006

Figured I’d make this last post before tomorrow even though I don’t really have anything to say. We’re making progress towards buying a house, which I guess is good since we have to be out of this one by June 30th. It’ll be nice to have a bigger house and pool, but I’ll miss this one. I’m about to head downstairs and watch a movie before going to sleep (probably Titan A.E.), so just remember to check back tomorrow and see what I have in store!!

In Full “Swing”

May 13th, 2006

With wins yesterday (16-6) and today (5-1) over Hillcrest, HP advances to the next round of the playoffs which will be against Justin Northwest (or something like that). I’ll once again be going unless something unforseen happens. This round against Hillcrest was the one that we lost in to Lake Dallas last year (Poteet played and beat them in a single game series on Thursday), so this is already an improvement over last year. If we face Poteet in the next round, it’ll be interesting since we lost both times to them earlier in the season.

I haven’t forgotten about the two year anniversary of this blog, I’m just waiting until Monday to make the changes. Along with that, hopefully it’ll be the catalyst for me to start work on some other projects that I have ideas for but haven’t really made any attempt to get off the ground yet. There’s also been no reason for me to start a completed game list yet because I’ve yet to beat any games this summer.

Finding Ways to Waste Time

May 6th, 2006

1) Go see movies: Today I went to the brand new Northpark AMC theater to see MI3, and it was pretty good. This is the first theater out at Northpark since the old Cinemas I-IV were shut down when I was a kid (I think I went to go see The Lion King at one of them when it first came out), and even though we won’t be living extremely close to it for that much longer, it’s extremely nice. The movie itself was really good also; probably closer in the “content” to 1 then 2 (less action, more character interaction/exposition).

2) HP Baseball Playoffs: Yesterday and today I went to the two HP baseball games (yesterday in Paris, today at HP). While they weren’t the nicest wins in the world, 2-0 and 5-2 gets us to the next round. Hopefully I’ll be able to go to those (and all the future rounds), but we’ll see.
