Stealth of a Snake

July 28th, 2005

Extremely early this morning I finished Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes with just under 8:30 of total play time. While that game has some of the longest cutscenes I’ve ever seen, the storyline is awesome and I’m ready to start Sons of Liberty tonight. I kinda broke my rhythm of beating games with a full month in between the two (and even longer if you want to go back to a full length “normal” game), but with my goal of 5 more games to beat before school starts, I should be busy for the next few weeks.

Completed Games:

  • Halo 2 (XBX) – 5/29
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (GCN) – 5/31
  • Psychonauts (XBX) (Start: 5/29) – 6/5
  • Brute Force (XBX) – 6/12
  • God of War (PS2) – 6/17
  • Feel the Magic: XY/XX (DS) – 6/25
  • WarioWare: Touched! (DS) (Start: 6/27) – 6/28
  • Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GCN) (Start: 7/23) – 7/28

Games in Progress:

  • Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)
  • Pac Pix (DS) (Start: 6/26)
  • Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade (PSP) (Start: 6/29)
  • Advance Wars 2 (GBA) (Start: 7/1)
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Start: 7/28)

Games Abandoned:

  • Advent Rising (XBX) (Start: 6/17) (Abandoned: 6/22)

Falling Back Into Old Habits

July 23rd, 2005

Almost a whole week without an update, and I was doing so well there for a while. Anyway, I haven’t completed anywhere close to the number of games that I wanted to this summer, so the next three weeks I’m going to try to make myself spend more time playing games and trying to work through as many games in my backlog as possible. There are also a whole bunch of games that have either just come out (Killer 7) or are coming out in the next few months (too many to name) that if I don’t beat at least a few more of my current games, my backlog won’t have gone down any over the summer. I figure working through series is probably the best, so my goal is to get at least Metal Gear Solid and .hack done (that’s 6 games), and then if I have the time maybe beat the second Prince of Persia and complete the last level of Kingdom Hearts. Final Fantasy is a lost cause because I’m only in the middle of the second disc on VII, and then I still have VIII, IX, X, and X-2 on PS2 and then all the old school ones released for PS1. If I ever manage to get my backlog down to what could be considered “normal” (2-3 games in progess and maybe 1-2 new games) across all the systems I own (PC excluded), hell will have officially frozen over.

Completed Games:

  • Halo 2 (XBX) – 5/29
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (GCN) – 5/31
  • Psychonauts (XBX) (Start: 5/29) – 6/5
  • Brute Force (XBX) – 6/12
  • God of War (PS2) – 6/17
  • Feel the Magic: XY/XX (DS) – 6/25
  • WarioWare: Touched! (DS) (Start: 6/27) – 6/28

Games in Progress:

  • Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)
  • Pac Pix (DS) (Start: 6/26)
  • Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade (PSP) (Start: 6/29)
  • Advance Wars 2 (GBA) (Start: 7/1)
  • Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GCN) (Start: 7/23)

Games Abandoned:

  • Advent Rising (XBX) (Start: 6/17) (Abandoned: 6/22)

Six Years Down…

July 18th, 2005

(Note: No spoilers in the following post)

Right around 24 hours after I initially started reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I finished its close to 650 pages just before 3:00 this afternoon. My review? It started out a little slow, got better once the action shifted to Hogwarts, and the death…well, I knew it was going to happen in the book (based on what was revealed months ago), but I would have never have guessed the correct character. It definitely sets up the groundwork for a very interesting Book 7.

Andrew decided that he would rather skip reading the first few books since he had seen the movies, but at my recommendation he decided to go ahead and begin reading with Prisoner of Azkaban instead of Goblet of Fire. I still think that they left too much out of that movie that maybe isn’t crucial to the plot but still helps to understand the world better. Considering the length of Goblet of Fire, I wonder what will be left out of this adaptation, since I doubt they would try to pull a LotR. Guess we’ll know come November…

New Beta

July 15th, 2005

So many things to write about, I just decided to pick a title that covered one of them instead of trying to come up with some hopefully witty title or a broad statement that encompasses my entire life. The title refers to Jak X: Combat Racing which I got from Sony yesterday. Naughty Dog did a good job with the vehicle portions of Jak 3, and this game pretty much just takes that part of the game and creates a multiplayer (possibly a single player mode in the final version, can’t remember) racing/deathmatch game which is pretty fun.

The majority of the parts for my desktop are on their way to me right now with only the two DVD drives left to be ordered. I know exactly what I want my laptop to be, but I’ll wait a few weeks until I’m hopefully in a better mood about getting it. This is the third year (to the month) that we’ve had our current desktop, so based on our past schedule it would be time to get a new one anyway, but I’m really not even that excited about it. This is very contradictory to my normal feelings about spending other people’s money/having stuff bought for me, but I think I know what’s keeping me from being happier. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big fan of change, but in just over a month, I’m about to get the biggest change I’ve seen. Getting these new computers is just an indicator that this change is approaching much faster than I want it to, and I’ll be honest and say that I would gladly not spend all this money and keep my life the way it’s been. That’s obviously not an option though, so I might as well try and be happy about it.

Also, in anticipation of tomorrow, I started to re-read HP and the Order of the Phoenix today. Actually, I read the first 2 chapters of it last Sunday before my surgery, but today I managed close to 500 pages. Since I won’t be starting the new book until Sunday (my grandmother is going to buy it tomorrow, and she’ll read it in a matter of hours), I shouldn’t have any problem finishing the remaining 300 or so pages.

Life Back to Normal?

July 12th, 2005

Aside from a sore lower right jaw, my mouth has been pretty much fine since getting my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. I did just mainly lay on the couch yesterday and watched TV, but today I’ve been doing stuff that I would normally do (which still involves TV, but also stuff like playing on my computer). Dell also gets credit for taking care of problems fast because the fan I ordered Saturday afternoon got here at about 8:00 this morning, so I’ve been able to use my main desktop all day. Not anything that will make me get another Dell desktop (at least as my new computer), but this does give them some points.

CPL Summer 2005 Review

July 9th, 2005

Even though CPL isn’t officially over until tomorrow, I won’t be going back out there, so I can go ahead and make this review post now. It was a fun 4 days, and I’ll consider going again next year but without the room. Even though I spent a great deal of time up there (watched TV at night to take a break from being in front of my computer all day), I think I would enjoy it just as much if I went out there and then came home each night (not to mention it would be a lot cheaper).

For pictures, I’ll direct you to Andrew’s blog (http://andyblog.net/?p=47). I took one of the World Tour sign in the tournament area and then tried to get a shot of the top of the Lone Star atrium at night, but I just never felt compelled to take a whole lot of pictures. Speaking of pictures, it will be even more time before I get the cruise pictures online since the cooling fan in my main desktop decided that Wednesday night (had to being Andrew home for him to repair his computer) was a great time to die. Currently I’m using the Shuttle I built for CPL and will be doing so until my replacement fan arrives from Dell (proprietary part, so unfortunately I couldn’t just go get one at CompUSA).

There will probably be another gap of time between postings since I get my wisdom teeth taken out on Monday. Andrew felt good enough to do stuff by the next day, but who knows how long it will take me.

CPL Visit #2

July 5th, 2005

In about 20 minutes I’m leaving to go over to Andrew’s and head off to CPL. Last year the internet was very stubborn, so I’m not sure if I’ll be making updates or not. My big hope is that check-in goes smoother than it did last year, because that took a very long time.

No, the pictures aren’t up on Flickr yet, but considering no one would be looking at them anyway, I don’t really feel guilty. I’ll be taking my camera out to the Gaylord also, so I’ll just upload all the pictures at the same time once I get back.

Photo Delay

July 4th, 2005

Big surprise, I didn’t get around to uploading the images to Flickr today. They are on my computer, but at such outrageous dimensions/file sizes, I need to make all of them smaller before I consider uploading them. I’ll do my best to get that done tomorrow before I leave to go over to Andrew’s, but it all depends on how much I’m able to get done with my new computer tonight.

I also forgot to post this updated list yesterday, but here is my new game list after the cruise:

Completed Games:

  • Halo 2 (XBX) – 5/29
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (GCN) – 5/31
  • Psychonauts (XBX) (Start: 5/29) – 6/5
  • Brute Force (XBX) – 6/12
  • God of War (PS2) – 6/17
  • Feel the Magic: XY/XX (DS) – 6/25
  • WarioWare: Touched! (DS) (Start: 6/27) – 6/28

Games in Progress:

  • Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)
  • Pac Pix (DS) (Start: 6/26)
  • Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade (PSP) (Start: 6/29)
  • Advance Wars 2 (GBA) (Start 7/1)

Games Abandoned:

  • Advent Rising (XBX) (Start: 6/17)

Question: Guess Who’s Home???

July 3rd, 2005

Answer: Me!!!!!!!

Spending 15 hours from when I woke up to when I was able to actually walk into my house wasn’t exactly how I wanted to spend today (in my world, the time would have been closer to 7 or 8 hours). At least I’m home now though and have 36 hours to rest before Andrew and I head off to the Gaylord for CPL (which starts on Wednesday, but we have our room Tuesday night so we can be there early in the morning).

I took quite a few pictures with my new camera on our cruise and plan on getting them all downloaded to this computer tomorrow after I’ve had a chance to sleep. All the ones I deem worthy of using up my Flickr bandwidth will get uploaded there, and if there are a bunch of others, I might just create a temporary gallery on this site. I attempted some panoramic photos off of our balcony or the side of the ship for each of the ports we stopped at, so if I can successfully stitch those together, they might get considered for an upload. Right now though, it’s rest time.
