One Day Left

June 11th, 2005

Two more dives tomorrow and I then become a certified scuba diver. Granted, I don’t really enjoy going out to Terrell in order to do the dives, but it’ll be cool to be able to go on dives while we’re on our cruise.

Bought all the parts for my new SFF computer yesterday from Newegg, so now it’s just a matter of waiting for them to arrive and assemble them once I’m capable. I’m having my wisdom teeth taken out Monday, so that means I probably won’t be completely with it until the end of next week. For the 1-2 of you reading this, don’t expect a lot of posts until I get better. Then I’ll go ahead and buy my new camera to I have a week to get familiar with it before we leave.

Not About to Happen

June 8th, 2005

Ever since I started this posting tirade, I stayed pretty consistent with making daily posts. Recently I’ve missed a day a few times, but this was the first time to go 2 days with no post and I wasn’t about to let it get up to 3. I’ve continued looking at computer parts for my SFF and new desktop and at different notebook lines trying to decide what I ultimately want to get. My SFF computer will be ordered in the next few days, but I still have 5-6 weeks before I need to purchase either of the other two. I also need to get my camera soon (almost positive I’m going with the SD200), but I still have some time for that also. Aside from computers, video games, and certain subjects in school, spending money seems to be something I accomplish quite well.

On the Right Path to Mastering the Art…

June 5th, 2005

No, not of being a Psychonaut. I did finish that game today, however. It stayed just as quirky and different as it started out, but I would buy up a sequel in a heartbeat. I really want to start Advent Rising, but I’m going to make myself finish Brute Force first (should almost be at the end).

What I am on the right path for is becoming a certified scuba diver. My dad and I did all the classroom work and pool dives yesterday and today, so next weekend we’ll go on a total of 4 “open water” dives (going out to a lake near/in Terrell — 2 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday) and we’ll then be completely certified. The positive side to this is that we’ll be able to dive for fun on our cruise. The negative side is that one of the reasons we were going on this cruise in the first place was to get scuba certified, and now I won’t have that to entertain me. The casino better be able to hold my attention, or else I’m going to have a hard time not getting bored again…

Completed Games:

  • Halo 2 (XBX) – 5/29
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (GCN) – 5/31
  • Psychonauts (XBX) (Start: 5/29) – 6/5

Games in Progress:

  • God of War (PS2)
  • Brute Force (XBX)
  • Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)

Just smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave.

June 3rd, 2005

Saw Madagascar this afternoon, and while it wasn’t nearly as good as Shrek or the movies that Pixar makes, it was still entertaining. For those of you who haven’t seen it, the title of this post is a quote from the movie. For those of you who have, you should hopefully recognize that :)

Tomorrow morning my dad and I start our scuba lessons. We’re supposed to be at the place at 9:00 tomorrow morning and then hopefully be done around 4-ish. That will then give me some time to rest before we go eat at Benihana’s tomorrow night. Then back to scuba class on Sunday for probably the same amount of time, and I’ll hopefully be able to get Psychonauts finished Sunday afternoon (already have almost 9 hours invested in the game, and according to the guide I’ve had to reference a few times, I’m just 2-3 boss battles from the end of the game).

The “Restful” Days of Summer

June 1st, 2005

Note how I put the word restful in quotes above — the reason for that is because sometimes my days can become a little too restful and turn into what I like to call “boring”. Some people can’t see how in the world I could get bored with all the games I have that I’ve never even played, but trust me, it happens.

Sam’s baseball game got cancelled tonight so he was over for about 2 hours and we played yet some more Halo 2 on Live (no big surprises there). He finally got his Facebook account set up, something I won’t be able to do for another 22 days (should get my UTD email address on the 23rd, my first day of orientation). Right now he’s at Jack’s Pub playing some volleyball, but he’s supposedly going to call me and come back over. We’ll see if that stays true or not :)

Unfortunately I didn’t make too much progress in Psychonauts today since I got stuck and had to keep referencing a strategy guide to solve one of the areas. There can be such things as being too abstract, but considering I’m just now really starting to attempt to play games without using a guide, maybe these are blatantly obvious things that I just don’t know. I seem to be about halfway through the game (maybe a little less) with about 5 hours spent on it currently. Probably an hour of that has been me wandering around aimlessly not knowing what to do next, so hopefully that won’t be as big of an issue in the second half.
