T-24 Hours Until the Finish Line

May 19th, 2005

Disclaimer: Unless I decide to get super proactive tomorrow, I probably won’t be making a post here. After graduation we have the all night party which means that (even though I won’t stay for the whole thing) I probably won’t be getting home until Saturday morning.

I can remember back 13 years ago when in kindergarten and 1st grade I thought that being in the “Class of 2005″ meant that I was going to be in school a super long time. Well, 2005 is here, and regardless of whether I’m ready or not, graduation is tomorrow night.

Since I always seem to poke around UTD’s horribly designed (IMO) website whenever I get bored, I discovered today that they are one of the colleges participating in www.thefacebook.com. Once I get done with orientation, I may go ahead and sign up for an account there (you have to have an email address from a university, hence why I have to go through my orientation/registration first). I’ve noticed that quite a few people in my classes have one already set up for them, and since I’m all about doing what others think is cool, it only makes sense for me to do it also. </sarcasm>

On a much truer note, I’ve made a bunch of friends over the course of my 13 years at a student at HP that I’d like to stay in contact with in the future. Since so many colleges (and students) seem to be supporting this, it’s probably a good way to maintain these connections for the next 4 years. Especially since I’m so resistant to change, being able to communcate with people I’ve known for a while will (hopefully) make the transition in August a little easier for me. If nothing else, I’ll at least have a good base of trusted people to help test my first game for me :).

Oh yeah, and for my Episode III review: I’ve read a whole lot of reviews ranging from both ends of the spectrum, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. My initial reaction to this is much better than after I finished seeing Episode II (although I like II better now than when I first saw it). Definitely dark, obviously predictable (unless you someone don’t know anything about the others), but I think it does a good job of connecting the prequels to the original trilogy (4-6). My score: 9/10.

Making the Final Turn

May 18th, 2005

48 hours or 2 days…..that’s how much time is left.

Tomorrow is the day that I’ll spend the least time up at school (less than 30 minutes). I just have to go check in with my 5th period teacher to get counted present for the exam, and then I get to leave since I have lunch 6th (well, not officially, but that’s what I’ve been going with the whole year). Then, tomorrow at 12:15, I will be watching the previews before Episode III starts. Even though I’ve slacked off a little in regards to posting reviews on here (haven’t seen a ton of movies since December, but more than I’ve posted about), I’ll try to get around to posting one tomorrow evening.

Keeping the Streak Alive

May 17th, 2005

Big surprise, no comments :)

I could have gone without posting today since nothing exciting really happened, but why let my posting streak die? This even breaks my old one as I have now posted 6 days in a row. What is the world coming to??

Only 3 days of school left, but I don’t really think my brain sees it that way. Usually at the end of the school year I get a little sad because of the impending change (most people who know me are aware of this, but I do not enjoy change at all). This year, though, that hasn’t happened so far. Has my brain gotten used to the school-summer cycle finally and it thinks that I’ll be coming back to HP in the fall? If that’s the case, it’s in for a shock. Maybe it’s subconsciously happy? Doubt it, as I’m not all that excited about going off to UTD. The mysteries of how my mind works…..

Migration Complete

May 16th, 2005

As you can see, my blog is now up on its new domain/server. This will get rid of the ads that Tripod inserted at the top and bottom on the page and will also allow me to add more pictures and other random files. I’ll go ahead and do what another one of my friends did with his Xanga and go ahead and request that anyone that reads this to leave a comment (I don’t think Blogger requires you to register, so just click on the Comments link at the bottom of this post).

One Year Anniversary!!

May 15th, 2005

If you take a look back at the archives, I started this blog on May 15, 2004. Even though there have been some significant periods of me not updating, it’s still been a full year. Here are some slightly random facts pertaining to this blog:

  • I made 90 posts in the first year (“First Post…” to “Approaching a Milestone”)
  • Only one day ever had more than 2 posts on it (5/16/04 because I changed the address of my blog and made a post reflecting the change)
  • Longest time without an update was 16 days (9/2/04-9/18/04)
  • Longest streak of daily postings was 5 days (1/16/05-1/20/05)
  • During the first year, HP was eliminated from the playoffs in sports I worked 3 different times (2004-Baseball, 2005-Football/Baseball)
  • 13 titles had “…” in them (12 of which were posted in 2004)

And, to celebrate this “achievement”, I registered the domain dailygoob.com which will be the future home of this blog once I get it migrated over. If I can remember the password to this Tripod account, I’ll set this site up as an automatic redirect. Otherwise, I’ll simply make another announcement post saying that the blog has changed sites.

Approaching a Milestone

May 14th, 2005

It still hasn’t quite sunk in yet that I’ll never be involved with another HP sport as a trainer ever again. Pretty much all of my time in high school (with the exception of the fall semester of both my Freshman and Junior years) has had training as an extracurricular activity which chances are I’ll never be involved with again. Yeah, I’m a little sad about it, and this is coming from someone who hated football practices. I’ll say it again: all of us wanted to go a lot farther in the playoffs, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I had been planning on having baseball into the beginning of summer, but now I essentially have nothing else to do with school except show up and be counted present. Seems like a relatively anticlimactic end to the past four years…

And as far as the title of this post goes (it wasn’t in reference to the first paragraph although it does appear to fit well), check back tomorrow to find out what milestone has been reached.

End of the Road

May 13th, 2005

As I said in my last post, no one wanted our season to end here, but unfortunately that’s what happened. We lost to Lake Dallas 1-4 at home tonight, only our second loss at home all season and our seventh loss overall. As I did with football, here’s our complete season record:

*Non-district Game

Don’t really know what else to say. 11 people (the 10 seniors on the team plus myself) will not be returning next year, so a significant portion of the team will change next spring. We had one of the team’s best seasons in a long time, and I think we should have gone much farther in the playoffs. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter what I or anyone else thinks for that matter.

Sultans of Swat Season…..Conclude.

Final Record: 23-7 (10-0)

Not the Best Way to Start

May 12th, 2005

We had the first shutout of our season tonight with a 0-1 loss to Lake Dallas. Luckily this is a 3 game series, so we still have games tomorrow and then (if we win) on Saturday. None of us are ready for our season to be over, so come to Scotland Yard tomorrow night and support us!!

Current Record: 23-6 (10-0)

Memory Stick vs. Portable DVD Player

May 10th, 2005

Perhaps this is a bit premature, but I’ve started to look into ways to entertain myself when we (hopefully) go back down to Austin for State. I’ll have my iPod to listen to music and books to read, but I’ll probably also be taking my PSP and/or GBA SP (the design of the DS isn’t extremely well suited for traveling in moving vehicles). Since the PSP has the built in ability to play movies off of a Memory Stick, I figured that investing in a 1GB one would be worthwhile since I could fit two movies on it that I could watch without much difficulty (after the initial hoop jumping of getting the files onto the MS in the first place). This was my idea, I was happy, end of story.

Until this afternoon. I was telling my mom about this idea, and she suggested that I just get a portable DVD player since the screen on the PSP is so small. When I looked at them last year, the general price level was up in the $500-600 range. That’s still where the high end models from the well known companies fall, but I’ve also found a few well-reviewed players that cost essentially the same as the 1GB MS would. So, what decision to make? Guess I still have about 2-3 weeks to decide….

Let’s Get it Started, Part II

May 8th, 2005

I don’t want to sound over confident, but with the way we’re playing this season (undefeated against all 4A teams we’ve played), I think we have an extremely good chance at making it to State. With a 11-3 win over Arlington Martin on Friday, all of our regular season and pre-playoff games are now finished. This Thursday we take on Lake Dallas in a best-of-3 series with games on Thursday (@ LD), Friday (@ HP), and Saturday (if necessary).

Sultans of Swat Playoffs…..Begin.

Current Record: 23-5 (10-0)
