Assault Finally Completed

May 31st, 2005

3/1/05: “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is now in my GCN and ready to be completed over the next week or so. At least, I hope I can beat it that fast.”

5/31/05: After having to restart due to a bug about 33% of the way into the game, PoP can finally go into my finished games pile. 3 months for a game isn’t a great timeframe for beating games, so I need to work on getting that down.

Sam came over for about an hour before his baseball games tonight because he had no place to sit at his new house. We played a little Halo 2 on Live (as always) and then he had to go. The rest of my afternoon consisted of going to a few scuba places and then just talking with Andrew online. Now I’m off to go see Peter Pan as a part of DSM.

Completed Games:

  • Halo 2 (XBX) – 5/29
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (GCN) – 5/31

Games in Progress:

  • God of War (PS2)
  • Psychonauts (XBX) (Start: 5/29)
  • Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)

Training at Whispering Rock Summer Camp

May 30th, 2005

I use this word a bunch to describe things, and I’ll use it once again: different. That’s honestly the best way I can describe Psychonauts — not different in a bad way, but this game is just so out there that its definitely memorable and different. I’ve already logged almost 4 hours on it so far, and since I just started it a little over 24 hours ago, that’s pretty good when you figure in all the time that I would be doing other things (stuff like sleeping, eating, etc.). No new games completed today, but I should have this and PoP: Sands of Time done within the next few days.

Official Start

May 29th, 2005

Unfortunately, I finished both Ratchet and Clank and Katamari Damacy on the Thursday before school got out, so I can’t include them on this list of the games I beat this summer. I guess this makes the list slightly more accurate though since I really only had the last level to go on each of those games. Anyway, I completed my first game today which is eligible for this list: Halo 2. I’ll brainstorm a better way to do this list sometime this week, but for now, I’ll just update it in my blog posts whenever necessary.

Completed Games:

  • Halo 2 (XBX) – 5/29

Games in Progress:

  • God of War (PS2)
  • Prince of Persia (GCN)
  • Psychonauts (XBX) (Start: 5/29)
  • Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)

Cruisin’ Along

May 28th, 2005

Even since our cruise 3 years ago, whenever we start to plan a summer vacation, I always vote against the idea of going on another cruise since I became so bored after the first 3-4 days last time. In just under a month, however, we will be going on another one. This time we’ll be on Adventure of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) and visit Puerto Rico (Departure/Arrival), Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas. This will make me get my camera slightly earlier than I originally planned, but we’ll also have internet access from our cabin so I’ll upload a few pictures each day (and then the rest once we get home). Compared to our cruise 3 years ago, this ship is much larger and we’re also getting a bigger room (a Junior Suite instead of just a Balcony). My dad and I will also be doing a scuba certification course on the boat so that should hopefully minimize the downtime. Although now that I’m 18, most of my downtime will be spent in the casino :)

Next Up on the Purchasing Queue

May 26th, 2005

Now that I no longer need a DVD player for going down to Austin, it’s only natural for me to come up with something else to spend money on. After thinking about what I have available to me now technology wise that I won’t once I go off to college, I realized that one significant thing would be a digital camera. After looking at all the different options in sizes, resolutions, etc., I believe I have decided on the Canon PowerShot SD200. It’s only a 3.2 MP camera, but it’s not like I’m going to want to be printing anything larger than a 5×7 anyway (most pictures will probably go to either my Flickr account or to this webserver). And to please Andrew the “blog post picture” fanatic, here is a picture of the camera:

The (Video) Games of Summer

May 25th, 2005

After we lost in the baseball playoffs, most of the players went onto play summer baseball. Apparently there’s not demand for trainers, however, so that leaves me at home with my computer and video games. My goal this year is to see how many games I can complete (i.e. doesn’t matter when I started the game) in between the end of school a little under a week ago and when I start at UTD. I beat Katamari Damacy and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal sometime near the end of last week, but I’m thinking that might have been on Thursday either before or after I went to go see Episode III. I can check that date stamps on my save files to find out and see if they’re eligible for this list or not.

So currently my list amounts to….0. I’m actively playing Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA), Prince of Persia (GCN), and Halo 2 (XBX) right now, so it’s possible that my list could officially start as soon as this weekend if it hasn’t already.

Flickr Photo Test

I finally uploaded some photos to my Flickr account aside from the one being used for my profile, so I figured that I’d test how Flickr handles posting photos to it. It seems as if I can only do one per post (maybe multiple pictures will be available by the time the site gets out of beta), but this would still make uploading pictures a little easier.

You Don’t Know Jack

May 23rd, 2005

Ok, so my posting streak ended at 10 posts, but that’s still quite an accomplishment for me.

The season finale for Season 4 of 24 was tonight, and it is the perfect example of why I like this show so much and why Fox picked it up for at least an additional 2 seasons. If you haven’t seen it before, go rent the DVDs for Seasons 1-3. Season 5 doesn’t start until next January, so no one has the excuse that there’s not enough time.

(Re)Discovering the Hidden Treasure

May 21st, 2005

Relatively relaxing day overall. Got to laugh a little at Andrew because he forgot the chargers for both his phone and iPod for his trip to Philadelphia, went out to dinner at the very good Genghis Grill, and then watched National Treasure at home (came out on DVD a few weeks ago). Searching my past posts didn’t turn up anything, so I’ll go ahead and do my mini review on it now:

People who love to over analyze movies could probably find numerous holes in the plot of this movie, but I loved it. It always keeps up a nice pace for a 2 hour movie and throws in a great deal of comedy alogn with the mystery element. Obviously I liked it since I added it to my DVD collection, so it gets a score of 8.5/10.

I also talked with Sam earlier this afternoon and he mentioned something about the team having their “night on the field” tonight. Once I finished the movie I called a few people and found out that it fell through (at least for tonight), so that means I can spend some time beating a few of my games. :)

End of an Era

May 20th, 2005

Tonight, along with the other 477 students in my grade, the Highland Park Class of 2005 officially graduated. I’ll never be in HPHS as a student again, I’ll never see the vast majority of the kids I’ve spent the last 12 years of my life together with again after tonight, and I’ll never be a high school student again. Tonight marks the closing of the last 18 and a half years of my life, but it is just the beginning of the rest of it.
