A Milestone in History

January 30th, 2005

Let everyone know that today approximately at 4:50 PM, I finally beat my first story-driven game without ever using any type of walkthrough or strategy guide. That’s really kinda sad, huh? :)

I qualify that statement with “story-driven” because a) I guess you could somehow beat a sports game, but that’s a stretch, and b) this is actually the second game I have ever beaten without the use of a strategy guide, the first one being Halo. Now, before anyone gets onto me about this, I do not consider Halo to be story-driven. Yes, it has a story (so do the majority of games in the world), but I don’t feel that the game revolved around the story nearly as much as some other games do. If you still disagree with me, feel free to change “story-driven” to adventure game (not RPG, I will have to kill you if you claim Zelda is an RPG) or something else, but the fact still stands that I am quite proud of myself for having accomplished this. Now back to my English project that I took a break from to play Minish Cap in the first place.

Preparing for Another Swap

January 28th, 2005

Senior Play is Thursday through Sunday, and I better see everyone who reads this blog there. Granted, not that I’d really know if you showed up or not since I have no way of knowing who reads this (disabled the comment ability), but you still better be there!

As soon as that is over, baseball season begins for me. One of the head coaches reassured me yesterday that I was on the roster, so here’s hoping that they can at least do something right. For those of you on my buddy list, my profile won’t be quite as involved as it was for football, but I’ll at least keep track of our record and some of our more important games. So, I’ll hopefully either get around to posting after the Senior Boys’ party tomorrow night or sometime on Sunday. Yeah, like that’s going to happen…

Par for the Course

January 23rd, 2005

Remember that list I posted yesterday of the stuff that I needed to get done? Math Problems, check. Collegium V application, check. Everything else (including Zelda), nope. This is why I have such a gigantic backlog of games that I haven’t gotten around to playing yet: wheneve I have a list of stuff to do, I’ll make sure the critical stuff gets done, but then the stuff that isn’t so important gets forgotten as I do things like watch the NFL Divisional Playoffs, watch NUMB3RS, play around with stuff on my computer, etc. Hopefully I won’t get sidetracked before I go to bed…

Last Minute Post

January 22nd, 2005

Yeah, I really don’t want to hear it. I know I forgot to post yesterday, so that’s why I’m making sure to post this now, so I don’t (insert dramatic gasp) go for 2 whole days without updating my blog! </sarcasm>

Ummmm….I played a little Myst IV today and got to thinking about how good the music was in it. Myst V, the final chapter in the series, should be coming out sometime later this year. Hopefully it will be a fitting end for the second best selling game series of all time (The Sims being the first). This is my list of stuff I have to do tomorrow:

• 4 sections of math on ThinkFive
• Read ~70 pages in Poisonwood Bible
• Study for Bio test on Monday
• Finish Collegium V application so it can be mailed on Monday
• Beat Vatti on Zelda: Minish Cap (not school related, but still needs to be done :) )

I should be quite busy tomorrow….

Sultans of Swat

January 20th, 2005

That’s the 2005 HP Baseball slogan, motto, or whatever you want to call it. Even though it’s definitely a little out there, I think it’s much better than the one last year (“A Call to Arms”). I should be getting somewhere around 5-6 clothing items with this printed on it, so I guess it’s a good thing that I like it :)

Transition Period

January 19th, 2005

Less than 3 weeks now until our first baseball scrimmage (not sure when the actual season starts). I’m still waiting for the information/order packet to be dropped off at my house, but my mom (accidentally) ordered my yard art today. Most likely the football will stay up until the new one arrives — after all, it makes it much easier for people to find my house.

Another worthless club day today for the Computer Science Club, but I guess that’s to be expected. What still amazes me is the fact that the network administrators don’t care in the slightest that UT2004 is on essentially every computer along with a few containing WoW and/or CS. A few years ago, people would have been sent to ISS for even downloading it; now they can play freely and no one seems to care.

Problem Realized

January 18th, 2005

I think I finally came up with a reason as to why there are such big gaps in between my posts (sometimes resulting on only 3 a month): I honestly don’t have that much to say on this thing. Someone’s blog that I read (had Theater Arts with his older brother last year and found his while browsing one of the HP Xanga blogrings) includes a picture almost every post becaue he’s really into photography. See, that might actually provide for some interesting substance to discuss (or at least some slightly amusing pictures for the rest of the world to look at). So, as my search to find something to use that will cause me to update this more often continues, I shall discuss updates on my two extracurricular activities between now and the end of the school year (and possibly even a little beyond).

During 8th Period I went to go talk to the Varsity Baseball coaches about the information that I needed that the rest of the team was getting since so often I am left out of the loop. Well, the conversation I ended up having with them made it seem like they had no earthly idea what a trainer was or what I was supposed to do. Not all that helpful to me, so I ended up calling the dad of one of the captains who said that he would drop off a packet by my house with (hopefully) all the information that I would need.

Then, after school today from 5:00-7:00 we had play rehearsal which was fun, but could definitely be considered chaotic at times. Not that anyone was trying to cause problems, but people would miss cues repeatedly (yes, I did this a few times because it’s extremely hard to hear behind the set) and then restart the scene in a random place that would just confuse everyone. With just around 10 rehearsals left, hopefully it will start to come together more.

Daily Update

January 17th, 2005

Normally, the events of today wouldn’t warrant a post. However, as I pointed out yesterday, my blog is called The Daily Goob, so I figure that I should probably put in some more effort to make sure that it’s updated as daily as possible (Read: no more 2-week spans of me being on the other side of the world, figuratively speaking). So, what will come with this hopefully new update schedule? Well, that you’ll have to wait and see (Read: I have to come up with it first).

After having browsed some of the blogs of other people that go to my school (some of who I know, others I know older siblings of), I realized that the ones I enjoyed reading the most were the ones that we’re actually updated on a daily basis. The others I would maybe remember to check one every 1-2 weeks unless someone specifically told me to. So, we’ll see how long this daily update trend holds. Maybe I can set a new personal record :) (Read: longer than 3 consecutive days)

The Past 14 Days

January 16th, 2005

Well, I guess it’s not that big of a surprise that I went 14 days without updating something with the word “Daily” in its title. There’s irony for you. Anyway, fasten your seatbelt because you’re about to get the quick version of the past 2 weeks of my life.

Meet the Fockers: Take how you felt about Meet the Parents and repeat it for this movie. Still quite funny, but it also keeps that same sense of humor that the first one had. Don’t expect it to be that different.

Elektra: Disclaimer: Read my mini-review on Catwoman here. Not as good as Spiderman 2, but overall, at was another movie that I enjoyed. I really don’t get how the critics rate these superhero movies, but it’s apparently not on if it’s entertaining or not.

Aside from those 2 movies, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap has been taking up most of my non-school time, and it definitely gets two thumbs up from me and is a recommended game for all GBA/DS owners. I’ve also been cast in The Man Who Came to Dinner (Senior Play) which we’ll be performing February 3-6., and I actually get lines this time. Granted, it’s all of about 5, but I now have something more to do than just stand around on stage and talk to people on cue.

War of the Websites: Blogger vs. Xanga

January 2nd, 2005

I honestly would not be surprised is over 75% of our school has a Xanga account for their blogs. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with this, but why did everyone flock to that site instead of Blogger? Granted, I’ve never had a Xanga account (nor do I see myself having one in the near future), but the features that it has over Blogger seem pretty trivial. Let us count:

  1. Now Playing/Watching Entry – Almost as bad as the IRC scripts saying what MP3 you’re listening to on Winamp, but it doesn’t even work with Firefox (yet). Interesting idea, but the plugin bar at the top of the screen gets kind of annoying.
  2. Blogrings – This is the only feature on Xanga that I wish Blogger had. Even better, a 3rd party cross-site service needs to be developed.
  3. eProps – Who really needs a fake money system tied to the comments on posts?

The reason why I figure everyone went to Xanga is because the people that began to make this “popular” used Xanga, and in order to try to be like them, everyone else began to join that site. Maybe I’m off, but that’s the only big reason I can figure why I’m the lone Blogger in our school.
