Touching is Very Good

November 26th, 2004

I mean, I always knew touching could be fun, but this is a blast! I’ve started to touch things in ways I never though possible….the sheer enjoyment from all the touching I’ve done this past week is simply mindblowing. You know, I think everyone should start touching more.

Yeah, I’m making fun of the DS ad campaign, but it’s just so fun to make fun of :). I picked up my DS last Sunday (before our final performance of the play) along with two games: Super Mario 64 DS and Feel The Magic XY/XX. SM64 DS is a remake of the N64 version with a slightly tweaked storyline to account for the inclusion of a bunch of new playable characters plus 30 new stars scattered throughout the worlds. Controls leave a little to be desired, but the touch screen control system works good enough.

Feel The Magic on the other hand is one of those quirky Japanese games (think Katamari Damacy for anyone who has experienced that) which by all US buying trends should do absolutely horrible but somehow becomes a major hit even though it gets very little press (known as a “sleeper hit” in the gaming world). That game is all about touching in the fact that the touch screen is the only control method used in the game: no D-pad, no buttons, nothing. Definitely shows how DS games have the potential to be completely unique if companies make use of the technology correctly.

If Someone Had a Dream on a Midsummer Night….

November 17th, 2004

…I wonder what it would be like? My guess is that it wouldn’t be anything like this play, though :). Tonight is the last night of rehearsal is tonight and then we perform it Thursday – Sunday up at the school. Then, maybe, I’ll get some time off the first time this school year. Could that really happen??

Highland Park Eliminated

November 13th, 2004

I was hoping this post wouldn’t come for a few more weeks, but we lost tonight to Texas High 25-28. This eliminates us from the playoffs and ends our 2004-05 season. For thouse of you who haven’t been looking at my profile, here’s our record for the season:

HP Football 2004-2005 – State Expectations
Final Record: 8-2 (5-0)
(District 11-4A Champions)
(Game 1) vs. Denton Ryan (@ SMU): L 18-21
(Game 2) vs. Rockwall: W 35-24
(Game 3) vs. Bishop Lynch: W 24-7
(Game 4) @ Arlington Sam Houston: W 49-40
(Game 5) vs. Lincoln: Game Cancelled
(Game 6) @ West Mesquite: W 18-13
(Game 7) @ Terrell: W 52-7
(Game 8) vs. Wylie: W 35-34
(Game 9) @ Mesquite Poteet: W 14-7
(Game 10) vs. Forney: W 42-7
———-End of Regular Season———-
(Bi-District) vs. Texas High (@ Tyler): L 25-28

So, that’s it. Baseball won’t start for me until February, so I get over 2 months off without having to work a sport. Even though I was less than excited about football sometimes, I wish our season wasn’t over so soon. Nothing we can do about it now, though. 1 sport down, 1 sport to go…

Is The Incredibles Really Incredible??

November 6th, 2004

Toy Story 1 & 2, A Bug’s Life, Monster’s Inc., and Finding Nemo — all movies by Pixar, all very successful movies. Their newest one, The Incredibles came out in theateres this weekend. It tells the story about how superheroes were once widely accepted by society but eventually forced into hiding with the government protecting their identities. The Parr family tries hard to live a normal life, but they slowly become drawn into a greater plot that will allow an evil self-created superhero to rule the world. My verdict? Pixar has done it again :)

Highland Park: District 11-4A Champions

November 5th, 2004

Yep, at 5-0 we’re the only undefeated team in our district and therefore district champions (again). Just 5 weeks and 5 games away from possibly winning our first state title in almost 50 years…it’ll be very interesting to see how we’ll fare since our biggest rival in the playoffs (Ennis) changed classes this year so there’s no chance we could meet up with them. Essentially what this means is waking up at 7:00 on Friday morning and not getting home until 1-2:00 on Saturday morning (with the exception of State when we actually spend the night, I believe). Time to bring it up to the next level, HP.
